Ibrew2or3 (1907), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Dec 3, 2008 Pours clear brown to chestnut with very nice lasting tan head. The aroma has a decent load of roasted malts then some nuttiness, a dash of crystal malts, some highly roasted malts and a hint of oxidation. The taste is mostly like the aroma with full on malt roastiness, some nuttiness, near burnt malts, some chocolate malts and crystal malts seem to round things out. Pretty solid tasting brown. kidrobot (17), Sparta, New Jersey, USA Nov 30, 2008 Drank it straight out of the bottle from the Saranac sampler 6 pack. Pretty smooth but will never get again. troysworktable (107), Washington, USA Oct 29, 2008 12 ounce bottle. One of six beers in the Saranac Sampler Adirondack Trail Mix six-pack. Drunk in Arlington, Virginia.
Saranac Brown Ale pours reddish brown with an ivory head. It is clear and lightly carbonated. It smells of chocolate, yeast, grain. There are also hints of molasses and cranberry on the nose. The flavor is a mixture of nuttiness, faint dark chocolate, and grain.
Would I drink it again? Sure. The only problem I have is the slight disparity between aroma and flavor. All in all, it was pretty good. Crafty07 (343), Lexington, Kentucky, USA Oct 27, 2008 from the sampler pack 12 oz bottle, this average looking brown ale was rather biter and tepid and turned out a very poor example of brown ale. It’s possible I had a skunky botttle...but as for now, dont drink this. djrn (60), Hackettstown, New Jersey, USA Oct 26, 2008 Clear medium brown pour with a tan head. Flavor a little roasty a sweet. OK.
