troyc (1020), Lubbock, Texas, USA Dec 3, 2008 [Bottle] Pours a very dark brown color with a small brown head and decent lacing. Aroma of coffee, which pretty much dominates compared to the light vanilla undertones. Taste includes smoked malts, burnt toffee and caramelized sugars, obviously in addition to the coffee. Unexpectedly dry and slightly astringent finish. Not a particularly creamy mouthfeel. Aftertaste is similar to that of drinking black coffee. I did enjoy this one, and I found it different from most coffee stouts I have tried. Ryan82SM (41), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Nov 30, 2008 Aroma is roasted coffee, perhaps some caramel? Probably not. Appearance is mostly opaque, blocks out the light in my room. Flavor is very roasted, almost burnt roasted, but more enjoyable with every swallow. Palate is lively, but surprisingly uncreamy for a oatmeal stout. A little weak in the aftertaste. Not so bad, this one could grow on me. 502Flavors (345), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Nov 27, 2008 12 oz bottle. Near black pour into pint glass with a light tan head that leaves nice lace. Aroma is all coffee and well done. Flavor is the same, but like a hybrid between a smoked and a coffee stout (really smoky). Medium ot light body minimal carbonation. Overall: if you like smoked or you like coffee (and especially if you like both) this is a beer for you. Narnad (167), Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA Nov 27, 2008 On tap downtown on Nov 22, 2008. Comes to the table with a very thick, tall foamy head. Very black with low bubbles. Aroma was of cold black coffee. Flavor followed the aroma to a T. Tasted like you were drinking the cold coffee from yesterday mornings breakfast. No malt flavor and was just a tad bit heavier than coffee. The beer matches exactly what was set out to do but I really wish it were just a little heavier. bleeng (335), Spring near Beersel, Texas, USA Nov 20, 2008 On tap at the taproom. Black color-nice. Foamy tan head. Nose is very coffee evident, roasty malts. Taste comes off as a traditional coffee stout, with strong coffee notes and nice roasty maltiness. Lighter body though. Not bad and easy to drink.
