Crispin Cider Company (Tenth and Blake Beer Co. - MillerCoors) Reviews

Crispin Blackberry & Pear Cider 1.9
This is a fruit punch tasting beverage which apparently resembles a perry in some way I cannot personally discern. It would be soda pop style but mine is all kinds of flat. I am not sure if the seal on the cap failed or what but these guys use screw caps so they get no sympathy from me. It does not seem all kinds of oxidized or anything like it would if that were the case so, yeah, I guess this is just a bust. I recommend this for children who wish to get accidentally drunk and throw up purple juice on their moms.

Crispin Artisanal Reserve Lansdowne 3.1
Bottle that Mom found in the cabinet but who knows if it was mine or Zac’s! It’s definitely a different cider. The aroma almost has a musty, red wine slant to it. The flavor starts and finishes with mild apples but there is some strange yeastiness in the middle. Nice to try something different but this was miss for me overall.

Crispin Steel Town 5th Anniversary 3.4
Bomber. Murky light orange pour with minor head. Apple, oak, red wine, vanilla. Pretty decent.

Crispin Artisanal Reserve Honey Crisp 0.5
I heard great things about this cider and bought a bottle at my local super market and I gave it a try today. It tasted very fowl to me and it reminded me of a colonoscopy prep. I love apple juice and this has now spoiled my taste for apple juice for a while. I would never buy this product again. This is just my opinion but at least I gave it a try.

Crispin Venus Reigns 3.9
bottle. Very pale straw, almost colorless with small head. The sweetness of the perry with the dry and tart red wine notes are a fantastic combination. The pear comes through well, but the combination yields some berry notes as well. faint oak. I could drink a ton of this.

Crispin Steel Town 5th Anniversary 3.8
Bomber from Total Wine, Tampa.

Crispin Original 2.9
Sampled from a 12 oz bottle. Crisp, fruity, mildly sweet and lightly dry. Fresh apple nose with hints of vanilla and pears. Not bad.

Crispin Venus Reigns 3.4
Bomber. Hazy pale yellow pour with no head. Interesting pear and red wine aroma that works for the most part. Sweet pear taste with a touch of dry late. Decent.

Crispin 15 Men 3.6
Bottle. Hazy copper gold with minimal head. Very light carbonation. Sweet with rum and brown sugar. Rum is more prominent in the nose. Plenty of apple, but it’s a bit in the background here.

Crispin 15 Men 3.8
Apple, orange, and banana nose. Cloudy amber. Babyfood banana and applesauce. Finishes with just apple. Light body, tannic and tangy. Nicely balanced, estery. Not a great deal of rum character.

Crispin Lion Belge 3.7
Another well-composed and thoughtful cider from Crispin--there have been some duds, but also enough interesting ones to redeem my confidence in the future of American cider making. This one is a gorgeous looking, with a hazy, off-white appearance that promises a lot of natural funk. Light pear notes overtaken by citrus, sour, light spicing. More-ish. Light alcohol note only. Bottle.

Crispin 15 Men 4.2
22 oz bottle poured. Beautiful bottle really. I always like a bottle that I can read a nice story off of while I enjoy it. Served with an ice cube, like the bottle suggests. Big rum forward aroma. Flavor is a sweet green apple. 99% of the rum presence is in the aroma. Subtle oaky rum finish. Overall an awesome cider here. Stand out for sure.

Crispin Artisanal Reserve The Saint 2
Pour is a hazy brownish gold, unfiltered look to it. Light carbonation and medium bodied. Smell is honey, apple, sweetness. Taste follows, but also has a vague vinegar and weird funkiness to it. I didn’t really like it at first, and it didn’t really grown on me either.

Crispin Brut 2
12oz Bottle. Clean, boring, alomst scentless aroma, with a bit of pear and distant perfume. Flavor is insipid. Boring, mostly flavorless drab fermented sugar flavor. There’s not much here. It’s more than a little sweet for "brut."

Crispin Artisanal Reserve The Bohemian 3.3
not sure of the age - pretty nice overall with a slightly different yeastiness not usually present. Don’t know that I’d be able to tell it was pils yeast if the bottle didn’t tell me, though.

Crispin Venus Reigns 3.6
Cool unique cider - never had a blend of pear and red wine, and it works pretty well. Crisp pear and berries and oak on the nose and palate. Body is light, but that’s ok.

Crispin Pacific Pear 1.3
Terribly weak, watery taste. Neither sweet nor tangy. Could barley tell it was pear. Can barely taste any alcohol. Musty finish.

Crispin 15 Men 3.7
Bomber from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours translucent, nearly hazy gold. Aroma of apples, rum and a suggestion of treacle. Near med body. Flavor is apple, honey/sugar in small quantity, trace of treacle, and some rum. Not as much rum as I’d like tho. Still it makes a very drinkable cider.

Crispin 15 Men 3.7
Fresh apple, floral and rum aroma. Cloudy dark yellow. Nice fresh apple flavors with a light rum essence. Not overly sweet. Very good.

Crispin Original 3.5
A good basic hard cider that taste pretty good. I know my girl loves their one with maple syrup which is hard to find I admit but also quite good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Crispin Steel Town 5th Anniversary 3.7
Hazed golden color with a quickly diminished head. Light aromas with apples, oak and bits of spiced rye. Flavor are abundant, with apples, rye, port, oak, light cinnamon, ad hint of alcohol. Semi dry finish with a bit of marzipan and agave. Not your mother’s cider, more like your grandmother’s cider (the grandmother who had a flask of whiskey in her apron).

Crispin Artisanal Reserve The Saint 3.4
Atlanta, GA - Whole Foods - Briarcliff - 22 oz bomber. Hazy, light golden pour, no real head. Fresh, juicy, just cut apples kind of aroma. Flavor is full bodied and delicious apple flavor with some natural tasting Gala apple notes, a hint of sourness, some natural vanilla notes, not artificial at all. Decently thick mouthfeel. Pretty solid.

Crispin Original 0.7
Just not good. Clearly the worst cider I have ever tasted. Cider, water it down by 100%, bottle and sell. Do yourself a favor and try anything else.

Crispin Artisanal Reserve The Saint 3.5
It's the best hard cider I have had thus far. It's their sweeter variety as it has maple syrup in it. But the sugar content is 8grams with 1.83 servings in this bottle. Bottoms Up! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Crispin Venus Reigns 3.5
Pours clear, light gold into a shaker. No head. Pear and oak aromas. Sweet pear and red wine upfront turns to oak in the dry, lasting finish.

Crispin Pacific Pear 2.9
Bottle at Villain & Saint. Nice slighlty yellow, pear body with slightest white little head. Nose is fruits, pear definitely, with sweet and floral notes. Taste is fruits of apples and pears. Not overwhelming. Nice texture.

Crispin Artisanal Reserve Cho-tokkyu 3.1
A hazed golden cider with aroma of tart apples, light mineral notes, light Brett, pleasant. In mouth, a light sweet apple pulp with light lemony notes, watery bodied, so-so.

Crispin The Jacket 2.9
I can see what they’re trying to do, but somehow the concept and execution seem off. Color is a rusty apple. Aroma is smoky apples. Flavor’s is boozy apples. Were they trying to make a cider version of applejack? Its not exactly bad, but I don’t want anymore.

Crispin Browns Lane Imported English Cider 3
I do pick up the brett in the aroma, like the commercial deScription says, but I’m so skeptical of the big brewers that I suspect it wasn’t put there naturally, only as an extract/additive or some such. Carbonation was a bit soft here where more would help cut the sweetness.

Crispin Artisanal Reserve Honey Crisp 4.1
Oddly enough I had never seen cider sold in cans. Upon opening you smell a somewhat apple/honey with a dash of funk. Pours a hazy yellow with just a dash of green. Pouring it quickly it will form a head that will vanish within seconds and leave a few frog eyes left. Taste is quite something, acidic apple with a burning honey finish. Feels watery and carbonated as it burns down your throat. The bottle is interesting and the can was as well. Perfect for a boring cold night! You should try adding your own cinnamon and brown sugar to make it really great!

Crispin Blackberry & Pear Cider 3
Pours purple with a white head. Aromas of BlackBerry and pears. Taste of the same. Sweet flavor. Not bad at all.

Crispin Artisanal Reserve Honey Crisp 2.1
Bottled. Pours out a foggy yellowish color. Smells a bit funky. A bit bubbly. A funky taste up front. Not too much of an after taste.

Crispin Original 3.2
On tap at Evernote in Redwood City, CA. Light apple / apple candy on the nose. Crisp with some sweetness and the tiniest bit of yeast in there. Gotta try this over ice!

Crispin Browns Lane Imported English Cider 3.4
16oz Can. I’ve had multiple four packs of this now and I must say I think it’s a decent value. It’s not a really fair or good representation of the English apples, but it is a nicely tart, slightly astrigent balanced, and not overly sweet cider in a can for a decent price. The aroma is pretty classic, a bit cottony. The flavors are general good, there’s some light spicy biting quality mid palate and some pear-like sweetness in the finish. Decent.

Crispin Refined Extra-Dry 4.5
A cider that drinks like a lager. Just enough sweetness. Defined apple flavor. Dry finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Crispin Artisanal Reserve Lansdowne 3.7
Pours a clear deep amber.. slightly bubbly. Aroma is like apples with brown sugar, butterscotch and fig. Flavor follows suit...notable molasses...really tastes like a blend of cider and Irish stout...delicious. Mouthfeel is full and almost sticky with a lingering molasses/apple autumnal finish.

Crispin Artisanal Reserve Honey Crisp 3.1
Pours a slightly hazy faint greenish-yellow from a bottle. Sweet apple flavor fades off into a nice dryness. Sweetness is somewhat over the top. Good cider.
Friday, September 25, 2015

Crispin Pacific Pear 2.7
12 oz bottle- Pours clear light honey golden with no head. Aroma is pear, perfumy, simple yet appealing. The taste is pears, perfume, very simple, but easy drinking. It is what it is.

Crispin Browns Lane Imported English Cider 3.1
Bottle at ATR Bethesda. Golden body with no head at all. Nose is freshly cut apples, toast and sweet. Taste also lots of apples, some skunk and fruits. Thin texture.

Crispin Blackberry & Pear Cider 2.8
Bottle @ Social 52. Berry color with no real head. Smells like "berry." Taste follows.
Tuesday, September 15, 2015

Crispin Pacific Pear 2.6
Clear light and pale straw hue. Aroma has some sugary pale pear notes, not super juicy just super sugary and perhaps a touch blonde malty? Smooth and crisp flavor that more cider than pear, but pear juice notes are present throughout. Sweet but just shy of cloying, with a nice dryness at the finish. About what I expected.

Crispin Venus Reigns 3.5
Refrigerated brown bomber poured into a white wine glass. Hazy yellow with very little head. Aroma is oak with some, medium body, light carbonation, and no lacing. Taste is pear, oak, and some red wine. Pretty good.

Crispin Venus Reigns 3.6
Bottle from Beer Run - pours still clear gold. Has a nice sherry, oak, vanilla, and mild pear thing going on.

Crispin Venus Reigns 4
22oz bottle. Cloudy, sedimented tan hue. Nice, soft pear notes with a complementary wine flavor that blended seamlessly with the cider. Very nice!

Crispin Artisanal Reserve The Bohemian 3.2
Milky gold with some floaties (it’s a bit old). Mostly clean apple flesh and skin in the aroma, on the sharp side with tartness a la granny smith, doughy yeast, lemony citrus and light spice. Fairly sweet, decently tart. Medium bodied, softer, drying toward puckering with tart apple on the end, perhaps some earthiness and hay too. Decent cider, held up for a long time. Can’t say the pilsner yeast does much other than let the clean apple shine through.
Tuesday, August 18, 2015

Crispin Original 2.8
Light gold in color. A bit watery, not especially crisp or tart. Fairly mild, medium apple flavor. Not bad, but not a standout.
Thursday, August 13, 2015

Crispin Prickly Pear Cider 3.3
On tap at Brewers Unleashed - Milwaukee. Poured cloudy medium golden with no appreciable head. The aroma picked up lots of apricot and mango, with fairly meaty backing.. a little spice too. The flavor found peach, apricot, and mango at the core, with tart stone fruit and mango around.. finished tart and refreshing. Lighter-bodied with very low carbonation.. good feel, but not great.

Crispin Blackberry & Pear Cider 2.4
Pear and blackberry are a decent mix, but this one isn’t that special. It kind of fails to emphasize anything. The color and the look of it are awesome. It’s not super sweet or very dry, kind of just middle of the road. Refreshing though, of course.

Crispin Refined Extra-Dry 3.5
This cider was super nice. I am a big fan of the drying effect of beer and cider, and this one is not lying about being Extra Dry. It’s dry, it’s crisp, it’s refreshing. Wonderful on a hot day. I was cooking on a hot day, the sun was out, the fan was on, and I took a sip of this = awesome. Apples, not overwhelming sweetness or perfume. Very reserved and controlled taste and smell. Awesome.
