3.9 Dogwood Mark and Ted's Excellent Adventure Bottle that got buried in my cellar - given I probably got this in a trade ~ 8 years ago, I can only imagine its true age. Looks as though it was handbottled and had an Avery label slapped on it. Ok, here goes nothing...after warning my friends that this could be unpleasant, a murky reddish brown liquid with very little carbonation is poured. Aroma is sweet and sugary, boozy, toffee, dark fruits...quite inviting. Flavor was actually pretty impressive...brown sugar, plums, toffee, and a strong bourbony/whisky feel to things. Palate was incredibly smooth, albeit with just north of zero carbonation. Very minor oxidization, and what was there did not detract heavily. Knowing I’ll never try this one again, I’m glad it was still well above drinkable when I finally cracked it open. Far from disappointing, this was quite a good drink! Saturday, February 21, 2015

5 Dogwood Mark and Ted's Excellent Adventure Apparently this may be one of the last bottles in existence. And it's my first perfect rating. Everything from the initial pour to the aftertaste is downright outstanding. The flavor is deep and lingers on the tongue in a delicious way. The flavor is deep and and rich with a slight bit of malt sweetness near the finish. Friday, November 14, 2014

3.1 Dogwood Youngbloods Imperial Porter a surprise wish list cross off that has been cellared by a friend since about 2003!!! after a tasting he busted out a 4 year old World Wide, this one (and from what i can gather this brewer doesn’t exist anymore) and get this - a 15 year old bottle of 12% Port Older Viscosity. the sample I had (in 2010) which obviously had some age on it but has been stored well. It was awesome to try, but a little muddled and unfocused. still lots of chocolate and roasted malt, little hop presence, and some warming anise like alcohol. probably better in 04-05, but I can’t go back in time, so i gotta rate it like i see it." 3.1 Dogwood Winter Ale 2003 Bottle thanks to Matt! Pours a near clear deep brown with a tan head that dissipates completely. 3.4 Dogwood Pale Ale Back from the dead y’all. Just drank this at the Brick Store Pub. It was specially brewed for their 16th Anniversary Party. Made me a touch wistful for the the excellent brews Dogwood used to make. Pours a hazy orangish gold with ample white head. Smell is a touch grainy. Flavor is excellent for style with light bitter mixed with sweet. Well carbonated. I only wish I could remember when I first had this beer so I might have a basis for comparison. 3.3 Dogwood Mark and Ted's Excellent Adventure 22oz bottle pours a mostly translucent, copper amber with two clumps of white head. Nose of toffee, orange, a little cardboard, brown sugar, caramel. Flavors of toffee apple, caramel chips, cookies, oxidized oranges. Medium bodied, sweet finish. The hops are totally gone from this 2005 bottle, but it is not bad. Saturday, July 7, 2012

4 Dogwood Mark and Ted's Excellent Adventure 2003 bottle shared by IrishBoy. Pours copper with no head and a fruity aroma. There is a sweet fruit and molasses flavor with a vinous finish. This barleywine has aged very nicely, with its originally well-defined characteristics melting together into a very pleasant mouthful. Sunday, June 17, 2012

3.9 Dogwood Mark and Ted's Excellent Adventure 2003 bomber shared by IrishBoy. Pours murky ruddy brown Aroma is plummy/vinous. Typical of aged ales. Also a light pepper note. Full bodied. Flavor is lightly plummy with brown sugar. It’s just slight sweet. Has aged well. Sunday, June 17, 2012

3.8 Dogwood Mark and Ted's Excellent Adventure Huge thanks to CaptainCougar for sharing this gem. Pours a slightly-murky caramel brown with a short off-white head that quickly recedes to a thin collar. Nose has plenty of malty richness and a nice complexity. There is a touch of fruit plus caramel, toffee, bread, and a general malty sweetness. Flavor is similar, though more focused on the malt sweetness and less integrated than the nose. Still quite nice. Medium body and sweet. Really glad to try this one. Tuesday, June 12, 2012

2.5 Dogwood Winter Ale 2002 Bottle given to me by rciesla, because he didn’t want it. I don’t blame him. I’m only rating this for the scavenger hunt. It’s terrible. Completely flat, dull, spent yeast, overwhelmingly oxidized. A note of celery, bandaid, and... 7up. Dumping this down the drain, which will get me more points. Thursday, April 19, 2012

3.7 Dogwood Youngbloods Imperial Porter 22 oz. bottle from TheBeerSommelier- thanks again, Matt! I think this was a 2004 vintage. Pours an opaque brown with no head. The aroma has some initial metallic notes, but beyond that is tobacco, charred wood, cola, and a lot of dark chocolate. Flavor of roasted malts, cola, charred wood, dark chocolate, and molasses. Nice. Light-medium bodied, with low carbonation and a smooth, roasty mouthfeel. Not bad at all; I can vouch that STLWill liked it a lot, too. Friday, April 6, 2012

3.6 Dogwood Winter Ale 2003 12 oz. bottle from TheBeerSommelier- thanks again, Matt! Pours a cloudy dark brown color with a small off-white ring for a head. Aroma of caramel and chocolate malts, molasses, brown sugar, dried berries, cardboard, and dust- yeah, some oxidation, but not too bad. Flavor of just barely smoked wood, caramel malts, molasses, brown sugar, dried fruits, and peat. Drinks a lot like a Scotch ale, actually. Medium-bodied, with low carbonation. These Dogwood beers are holding up all right after all these years, not that I’d sit on them any longer. Friday, April 6, 2012

3.5 Dogwood Winter Ale 2001 12 oz. bottle from TheBeerSommelier- thanks, Matt! Wow, first rating in over three years. This one pours a cloudy, deep gold color with a white ring. Sweet aroma of toffee, cookies, brown sugar, honey, and a coppery metal note. The flavor also has that copper note finishing toffee, brown sugar, apples, and honey. Light-medium bodied, with low carbonation and a sticky mouthfeel. This one is not bad after 11 years. We all enjoyed it. Friday, April 6, 2012

3.7 Dogwood Youngbloods Imperial Porter Older bottle thanks to cquiroga. Pours with a black body and a lasting deep brown head. Good lace. Aromas are very vinous and estery, big fig notes, brown sugar, plum, dark fruit, roast, fudge and milk chocolate. Flavors are somewhat oxidized. Roast, vanilla, lots of raisin notes, dark fruits, fig and milk chocolate. On the sweeter side of things. Creamy, mellow and light oxidation. Low carbonation. Good, but was probably better a few years ago. Saturday, September 17, 2011

3.6 Dogwood Winter Ale 2003 bottle at dak’s 1/2/11. dark brown pour with a small tannish off white head. smells like whiskey and dried fruit... razz cherries, barrel-y spices and brown sugar. the flavor is the same along with a touch of ashiness on the finish. it is a little flat but otherwise kinda neat-o that it’s held up. 7/4/7/3/15 Thursday, July 21, 2011

3.7 Dogwood Winter Ale 2003 (Special Edition) Courtesy of Blazer06. It pours ruby deep red with mocha head. The aroma has some spiciness from yeast and winter like spices but seems to roll quickly into full rich sweet dark fruity esters. The taste is even more so with the dark fruitiness with smooth sweet blueberries and ripe dark grapes mixing with thick sticky malts and smooth mellow spiciness. Nice. Friday, July 1, 2011

3.9 Dogwood Youngbloods Imperial Porter Süßlicher, stark malziger Antrunk mit leichten, kaum erkennbaren hefenoten. 4 Dogwood Youngbloods Imperial Porter Thanks to daknole. Bottle pours deep brown with a khaki head. Aroma shows some oxidation as well as notes of roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate. Flavor shows basically the same, and the slight oxidation is working. Overall body is moderate to full and somewhat sweet. I would have loved to see this in it’s prime. Thursday, January 27, 2011

3.8 Dogwood Youngbloods Imperial Porter 22 oz. bottle shared by shigadeyo. Pours very dark brown almost black with a small disappearing soapy beige head. The aroma was sweet malts, chocolate, ripe dark fruits and a touch of espresso. The flavor had a big roasted quality that borders on char that lingers into a general bitterness toward the finish. The ripe dark fruits, chocolate, espresso and hints of oxidation all blend well with this beer. There are no signs of alcohol at all. Creamy smooth. For being 6+ years old, this has held up extremely well. Sunday, October 3, 2010

3.5 Dogwood Mark and Ted's Excellent Adventure Big thanks to xmarcnolanx for sharing this rarity. Pours tawny brown with a small off-white head. The aroma has toasty malt, alcohol, caramel, light fruit and a vinegar trait that isn’t sour. The aroma hides the age quite well. The body is thick and chewy with a fair amount of gentle sharp carbonation. the flavor starts out with cobwebs, dry caramel, alcohol and spice. The finish really shows the alcohol. This was good, but probably better a bit younger than it is now. Sunday, September 5, 2010
