Tri City Mon Tressor
Attained via a beer trade with John Holmes, Montresor is a Belgian Tripel crafted by Tri-City Brewing Company. The aroma of Belgian yeast, orange blossom, caramel, and clove are noted as you drink. The appearance is a clear orangish gold with a fast dissipating white head. The alcohol content is 10.6%. Belgian yeast is spicy on the take and creamy to the mouthfeel. Ginger assists the spice and lingers into the slightly dry finish. Orange blossom harmonizes with the yeasty complexion. Caramel malt blends with the Belgian yeast and orange blossom body accompanied by a clove tone. Montresor is a gorgeous Belgian Tripel. The orange blossom and spicy Belgian combination distinguishes this brew from its style. The ginger is a constant focal point. Montresor comes across simple but with a kick of spice and ginger. There was a period where I averaged at least one Belgian beer per three reviews. Montresor delivers a unique Tripel for the consummate Belgian connoisseur. Cheers. Prost. Drink for the love of beer. Bottle: Barely hazy amber with a thin, off-white head. Toasted caramel aroma. Taste is sweet, toasted caramel malt......a bit of nutty/earthy bitter. Surprisingly rich and nicely bodied. Very pleasant.

Tri City Phelan Irish Red
Bottle: Pours clear, bubbled, deep copper-red with a short tan head. Slightly mineral, toffee malt aroma. Taste is toffee malt and slightly bitter mineral water. Gets a bit better after warming, but remains pretty watery and weak.....and never really loses that unpleasant bitterness.

Tri City Phelan Irish Red
Poured into a mug, the appearance was a semi-dark ruby red color with a finger and a half’s worth of white foamy head that slid off at a fairly slow pace. Clingy foamy lace clung fairly nice. The aroma had some toast, biscuit, herbal to floral hop qualities, light amounts of dark bread with a subtle woody presence. Light earthiness. The flavor presented all of the previously mentioned aromas together, semi-sweet with a decent balancing herbal quality. Aftertaste was malty and so was the finish. The palate was almost medium bodied, seemed to sit just a tad under for the body. Pretty sessionable and the ABV felt appropriate. Overall, pretty nice Irish red ale that I could come back to.

Tri City Hells Half Mile
12 ounce bottle into lager glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy medium golden yellow color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of cracker, lightly toasted biscuit, light honey, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of pale malt and earthy hop notes; with solid strength. A bit fruity/yeasty in the aromas, but not overwhelming. Taste of cracker, lightly toasted biscuit, light honey, herbal, light pepper, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/grassy/spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of cracker, lightly toasted biscuit, light honey, herbal, pepper, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness and balance of pale malt and earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from lingering bitterness, increasing through the glass. Very clean on lager flavors, with minimal yeast notes present. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy, fairly crisp, and lightly sticky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 6%. Overall this is a very nice Helles. All around nice robustness and balance of pale malt and earthy hop flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

Tri City Robust Porter
Reviewed from notes. The appearance was a fairly dark brown close to black color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that fell off pretty quick. Not much lace. The aroma had some soft roasty coffee tones with a little bit of dark chocolate nibs biting at the end. The flavor yielded to the roasty tones - coffee and dark chocolate and lead into the aftertaste and finish. The feel was between light and medium bodied with a decent sessionability about it. Moderate carbonation. ABV felt good. Pretty dry on my tongue. S, decent porter trying to show some "robust"-ness but seemed more just roast that came a bit under. Maybe again.

Tri City Brownhoist Nut Brown Ale
Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a mug. The appearance was a semi-dark mahogany almost brown color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that fell off at a decent pace. The aroma had some caramel/toffee malts up front with some grassy hops. Nuttiness is there but a bit more fainter than expected. The flavor leaned towards the sweet side and never really brought the nuts. Malty sweet aftertaste and finish. The feel was a bit under from being medium bodied with a decent sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt fine. Overall, with so many brown ales on the market and me being a fan of the style, I don’t necessarily see this as a top tier one.

Tri City Phoenix Golden Ale
12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours lightly hazy medium orange/amber/light copper color with a 1 finger dense and rocky off white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, and toasted biscuit; and light notes of nuttiness, lemon, plum, pear, apple, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with solid strength. A little too fruity/yeasty in the nose, but not overwhelming. Taste of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, and toasted biscuit; and light notes of nuttiness, lemon, plum, pear, apple, herbal, grass, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/grassy/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, herbal, grass, light nuttness/fruit, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light dryness from lingering bitterness, lightly increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy/creamy, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.8%. Overall this is a nice Northern German Altbier style. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth, flavorful, and easy to drink. Not as much hops and a bit too fruity/yeasty for the style. This was still nicely enjoyable, with plenty of rich malt flavor presence.

Sample at Bridge Street Tap Room. The beer is a clear orange-amber color with a medium thin bone white head that recedes quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lace. Aroma of malt, fruit and caramel. Medium body a slightly stale malty character and notes of dried fruit and caramel. The finish is sweet with a grainy malt aftertaste. Slightly below average overall.

Smells too malty for the standard red. Touch of roasted caramel within the malts. Color is a lovely dark red/brown. Taste is malt, more malt, and a baby bit of hops thrown in. Some roasted nuts at the end. It’s better as it warms. Mouth feel is good. Tap at brewery.

Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big raisin, prune, fig, date, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, molasses, brown bread, light herbal/leather, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and solid complexity of dark/bready malt, fruity yeast, and light earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of big raisin, prune, fig, date, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, molasses, brown bread, light nuttiness, light herbal/leather, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal bitterness/fruity yeast tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark fruit, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, molasses, brown bread, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Some dryness as well. Light carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, fairly creamy, and lightly slick mouthfeel that is okay; very thin for the style. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very solid Wee Heavy. All around good robustness/balance and solid complexity of dark/bready malt, fruity yeast, and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to sip on for the ABV. Likely that this bottle is 4-5 years old, but it held up well. Very mild oxidation. A fairly enjoyable offering.

12 oz. bottle. I gave this a shot thinking it might be similar to New Holland’s Dragon’s Milk. It poured super dark...so far, so good. Almost no head, but I did pour slow. Aroma was ok, but not great. Felt thick like it should. Taste started ok, but then turned bitter. Not a pleasant bitter, either. Overall...borderline ok in a pinch, but falls well short. Probably won’t buy this again.

Aromas of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, molasses, fudge, raisin, prune, date, licorice, light smoke/char, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of roast/bready malt and moderate fruity yeast ester notes; with solid strength. Light-moderate dryness from roast/hop bitterness as well. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth and creamy/sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is good. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt and moderate fruity yeast ester flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. Tri City Torchon Belgian Pale Ale
*On tap at brewery, Nov. 2015.* This is in fact a perfect introduction to Belgian ales. It is a relatively light and straightforward ale, with a clean and unmistakably Belgian taste and finish. (If there were off batches or bottling problems in the past, the defects did not creep into my glass.) If you like the Belgian style, this would make a fine all-day Belgian ale. Note - Staff at the brewery said the founder of this brewery is a chemist by training and profession, and he appears to be scrupulously following Belgian recipes. The Belgians here appear true to what I recall from beer tasting in Belgium, and they are certainly closer than most of the Belgian ales from the upscale Brewery Vivant across the state.
