Smells semi-sweet and malty with notes of rum, bourbon (and related vanilla), and oak alongside a touch of orange bitters. Tastes like it smells, but with more of an orange bitters presence. tmoreau	3.4 Sun King Donut Ale On tap at The Beer Cellar-Glen Ellyn, IL. as a 5 oz. serving to a small snifter, showing a fairly clear, darkest brown color, with amber highlighting, a silky layer of tan froth to a persistent ring, and wavy cling to the lacing. The nose was malt, roast, chocolate, and a modest application of the remaining ingredients as pretzel, donut, and peanut. Medium- bodied, the taste was somewhat similar notes, and with a rather thin body, lively carbonation, hidden alcohol, mild roasted bitterness, and initial clarity, came off less as a Stout than anticipated. Smells and tastes really sweet, almost to the point of cloying. Like red velvet cake and frosting with a hint of Belgian yeast in the background. Mouthfeel is medium full-bodied and mildly warming.
