Colorado Boy ESB
On tap at the Montrose brewpub. Cask version sampled. Amber colored with a creamy off-white head that has excellent retention. The aroma is soft with some pine and citrus. The taste is actually bitter, unlike most ESB’s I’ve rated, I get pine and bitter orange peel. The palate is remarkable as it was full, creamy and smooth; just what you’d expect from a cask drawn ale. Overall: Very nice stuff.

Draft at the Ridgway outdoor music festival. Amber in color with a small head. Faint indistinct aroma. Taste was mild fruits, low bitterness, and a rather good bready malt backbone. Palate was thinner than I prefer. Overall: My wife liked it, me not so much.

Colorado Boy Irish Ale
32 oz canned crowler. labeled as Irish red. Pours a nice looking amber brown color with a big beige head that has fair retention. The aroma features caramel and, well, just caramel. The taste was watered down caramel and minerals. The palate was thin and disappointing. Finished short and forgettable. overall: meh, second beer from this brewpub that has really let me down. not likely to try any more. Re-rate 8-31-16. Had the cask version of this on draught at the brewpub. It was considerably better than the crowlered version I had previously. The palate was sfull smooth and creamy. The taste was still malt dominant but their was an underlying spicy bitterness that worked quite well. This also paired exceptionally well with their pizza. Raising my score from 2.7 to 3.7

32 oz canned crowler. Amber with a large beige head that has decent retention. Aroma of mild pine and toffee. Taste similar to the nose. Palate is medium, finishes short. Overall: I was very disappointed with this IPA, considering they took a gold at GABF for this.

Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, unclean. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Colorado Boy IPA
Cask aged version at Brewers Rendezvous. Pours a thin off white head, short retention, over a slightly hazy amber (SRM 9) body....nose is pine, citrus, toffee/caramel....taste is pine, citrus, toffee/caramel, leading to a moderate lingering bitterness....mouth feel medium, slightly sticky, carbonation low. The hops used in this have huge names, and often are overly dominating. This beer was very well balanced between the malt and hop additions making for a great session beer. BJCP 7/3/14/4/7

Colorado Boy Double Pale Ale
Double Pale Ale is not a separate style within our current system. Sampler at Brewers Rendezvous from a Firkin. Pours a minimal off white head, over a hazy amber (SRM 8) body.....nose is floral honey, toffee/caramel, light malts.....taste is sweet floral honey, thick heavy toffee/caramel, finishing with a light hop bite.......mouth feel surprisingly light, carbonation (it was a Firkin) low. This really came across as an English Strong Ale. It was well balanced, and was absolutely delicious. BJCP 7/3/15/4/7

Colorado Boy Porter
Sample at Brewers Rendezvous 7/9/11. Pours a medium, mocha head, over a slightly hazy dark brown (SRM 35) body....nose is rich coffee, chocolate, very light vanilla.....taste is coffee, chocolate, with the barest hint of vanilla....mouth feel light, carbonation low. I believe this was a special, for the event, and was their standard Porter recipe aged in the cask. It was a bit light to the style. BJCP 6/3/11/4/5
Earlier Rating: 11/12/2010 Total Score: 2.8
Tasted at Brewers Rendezvous 7/10/10. Pours a thin off white head, over a brown (SRM 30) apparently clear body....nose is light coffee, light chocolate....taste is very light coffee, chocolate....mouth feel is on the light side of medium, carbonation medium. Over all an identifiable Porter, but on the light side overall. BJCP 6/3/10/4/5

Colorado Boy Best Bitter
poured at the 14th annual CO Brewers’ Rendezvous. deeply cool to see something on cask -- I believe that this was the only cask offering at the CBR this year. very smooth, malt heavy, and a great pour. could use a little more hops at the back end to land this one more squarely in the "bitter" category, but still well worth a taste when you have the chance.

Colorado Boy Irish Ale
Draft @ beaumont hotel in Ouray. Pitched as ’amber ale’. Nose is pretty thin, a little malt, a little toffee. Flavor is pretty watery, and a muddled mix of the malt and very little else. Finish is a dead ringer for the Biscotti cookies on United Airlines (not necessarily a bad thing, but pretty sweet and bready). Run of the mill.

Draft at SBR. Tasted 7/11/09. Pours a thin head over a slightly cloudy, pale golden body (SRM 10)....nose is mild grapefruit, with some resin....taste initially is mild malts with lingering grapefruit finish....mouth feel is light. This is a mild Pale Ale, and is more English than American in its presentation.
