BFM Cuvée du 7ème
750mL bottle, drunk 9/16/16.
Not sure if this was rebrewed, though I think it was, based on a Zymatore version being released in 2014 (seems very unlikely they would have aged it for 10 years) and bottles being available recently on the shelf around that time (when I picked this up).
Anyways, it still shows signs of life, pouring a beige head atop an auburn-golden body, with good clarity and lots of sediment left behind. Retention is moderate to moderately-low.
Smells very fruity, very bready and rather oxidized, in the nose. Hops have faded for the most part but still suggest light vegetal/green notes, with a touch of pine and citrus. Fruity yeast notes, with strong minerality, provide the bulk of the nose as bready malts, light to moderate caramel and bland oxidation steadily increase as it warms/breathes. No alcohol or flaw.
Similar in the mouth with still some remnants of bitterness, a good minerality and still an enjoyable fruitiness. Hint of citrus but it’s quickly overtaken by the caramel, bread and stale, cardboard-like oxidation. Good attenuation, with a strong maltiness to the texture and moderate amounts of tight carbonation. I guess this was not one to age....

Thank you Koelschtrinker. 750 ml. bottle sampled @ Pre-Borefts Ratebeer Tasting 2016. Sampled after the 2012 Vintage. Dark red amber toffee appearance. Nose is oxidized thinned out, sour oak, red fruit, oxidized cherry,… Too oxidized much like the 2012. Not jam-like sadly unlike a fresh one. Taste is too oxidized, thin acidic wood, oak, leaves, oak, oxidized cherry, oak,… Thinned out body. Still good but nowhere near on par with a fresh one. I miss the jam-like thickness & massive fruit of a fresh one.

0.33l swingtop bottle. Damn, this one has a serious amount of floaters! Really cloudy and deep golden looking in the glass with a nice medium sized just off-white head that’s leading some nice blondes down the sides of the glass. I’ll like the aroma. Loaded with wheat sweetness and yeast. I’ll thought this was supposed to be a blonde but it smells more like a cross between a wit and a wheat ale. A little sweet ripe banana estery thing here also. Quite enjoyable to be honest. It has a soft carbonation level inside a light oily mouthfeel. It’s not directly sweet in the taste but it has nice wheat sweetness. I’ll think this is more a wit than a blonde in the taste as well as it has that typical wit herbal coriander touch and lots of heffe yeast. A slightly orange zesty almost acidic hint in the finish. I’ll would not mind having this again. 05.10.2013

BFM Highway to Helles - Velvet Underground Edition
Bottle, thanks anstei! Slightly hazy orange-amber color with big white head - which gets quite some floatees and a milky color once you poured the whole bottle. Aroma is lots of fruity hops: Tropical fruits with lychee and mango, some blueberry - a very clean fruity Mosaic-like nose without too much sweatsocks and onions as you have so often. In addition to that, lots of pines, and I get some tea in there. Taste is a refined combination of fruits, first the tropical fruits from the nose which are quite juicy, then heavily bitter grapefruit components and pines take over, all accompanied by a slightly bready malt body. Solid bitterness in the finish, some pepper in there even, stays dry overall, but still full-bodied. Oily mouthfeel, pleasant bitter aftertaste. A great hoppy brew with some BFM twist to it that works out perfectly! I suggest you don’t pour the whole bottle and try to leave the floatees and the milky yeast in there - the second half of the bottle would only score 3.4-3.5 for me.
