33 cl flip-top, bottle conditioned. Very dark ruby brown-red, loads of floating sediments, thin tan head. Aroma is very spicy and sweet. Medium mouthfeel, medium carbonation, bitter aftertaste. Flavour is very spicy, lots of clove, chilli heatness, peppers, dark fruits and alcohol. All in all this beer features a lot of impressions. It’s complex and impossible to ignore. Well put together, but I don’t think I will buy another one.

Bottle from Whole Foods Market in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is light funky rotten things, spiced dark fruits, vinegar, strawberries, cherries, oak. Taste is complex mesh of acidic fruits, funk, and oak. This might be the imperial version of The Duchesse.

This cloudy gold colored beer has a slightly sour aroma and slightly wheaty flavor and mild spicy note which is very subtle. I really like the sour it isn't too strong but not too boring.

330ml bottle (thanks FatPhil). Clear amber color. Huge size, fluffy head, stays. Yeasty, sourish, herbal, citrus, faint leather in aroma. Twiggy, leather, bit smoky, grainy, herbal in taste. Smoky leather in aftertaste. Soft carbonation. Twiggy bitterness. Average brew.

330ml bottle (Pothouse, Tallinn)
Initially a slghty sour aroma, but a good brett-focussed one, not a lactocentric one. Fusty old leather aroma, bretty sweattiness, perfumey floral hops give a bite. Slightly soapy taste. Light palate, pleasant carbonation. Pale malts, bit of husky bitterness, and then for the finish the perfumey floral hops return, keeping the soapy twist. Clear gold, huge rocky head. Interesting soured hoppy beer. Not getting any smoke, maybe just a slightly medicinal phenolic aspect.

Bottle 375ml.

[ As BFM Abbaye de Saint Bon-Chien (2014) ].
Unclear - hazy matt medium orange amber color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, dried fruit, heavy vinegar, light wood, moderate dried - riped fruit, tart, sour, figs - plum. Flavor is moderate sweet and acidic - acetic with a long duration, aceton, vinegar, dried fruit, plum, tart, figs - plum. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. IMO not balanced at all so i find it very hard to drink. [20160109]

Bottle. Dark brown with a medium sized beige head. Spicy nose with some wood and brown sugar also. Spices also come through in the flavour along with wood, coffee, brown sugar, dark bread, nuts, cloves, mild chili like heat. Medium body, soft and filling with soft carbonation. Some sweetness, mild bitterness. Soft and pleasant, a bit too muche cloves for my taste.

I drank this beer yesterday in the Simplon coffee in Lausanne. Overall it is a good product. This beer is brown troubled with a thin foam and medium-low carbonation. The first sensation is in the mouth nice and not simple and well balanced. We could smell a side of caramel, some spices, malt and few hop and there is a small side of coffee. If I compare this with the brunette of boxer, I can say that it is a real dark with character.

It is a nice experience with this beer. I drank it in Lausanne in the Simplon, close to the station. The color is yellow gold and troubled. The carbonation is medium and the foam is thin. It is a kind of beer like a witbeer with more character and there is a side sparkling and bitter. We could smell the "coriandre" and there is a side of grapefruit.

BFM Abbaye de Saint Bon-Chien Grand Cru (2013) - Megamix Rum Vol.2 4
Bottle shared by bhensonb. Pours orange copper with a thin beige head and a sour fruit aroma. There is a fairly sour molaases and fruit flavor with rum that is noticeable but not overwhelming. Has a mild version of the typical BFM paint thinner note, however remains very tasty.

BFM Abbaye de Saint Bon-Chien Grand Cru (2013) - Megamix Rum Vol.2 4
Cappped 375 from Bine & Vine. Pours copper with a very slight beige head. Aroma of rum and berry - tending to suggest spicy calvados in rum barrels. Med body or so. Flavor is red berry, oak, some rummishness and it’s just lightly tart/sour. Very good. BFM light in a way.

From tap at Øst wth GH and JR 21.016. Golden, dark orange. Off-white head. Not much lacing. At first rubber glue and solvents in aroma and taste, but this element became less prominent as the beer rested in the glass. Sour and dry. Complex, with slightly too old red wine gone sour. Solvents lingering on. Interesting.

Bottle consumed at Kenny’s 20K tasting, thanks to Matteo. It pours bright red-amber with a small beige head. The nose is earthy, sweet - sour, vinous, red fruit aplenty, lactic tang, red grape skin, wood, vanilla and balsamic vinegar. The taste is crisp, tart, rather woody, funky, earth, sherbet, jammy fruits, lactic acidity, sour red berry and a touch of red wine vinegar. Medium+ body and fine carbonation. Nice balance and depth of flavour. Nice work as usual.

On tap at Birre Sotto l’Albero in Rome, Ma Che pub. Pours dark woody brown color, irregular foam. Nose is a blast, which develops as the beer warms up. Sourish notes develop into acetic-vinegar. Molasses and red fruit are there as well. Mouth: easy despite its ABV, fresh. More on the sweet side but quite complex. Some wood aging feel, tons of red fruit and a velvety sourness. Great beer.

Aroma is dark. slightly burnt, malts. Wee licorice and dark fruits. Taste brings roasted, slightly burnt malts with a little sour red berry lingering underneath. Chocolate and dark coffee. Grassy hay, apple orchard, dry-rot wood. Some barnyard funk with a neutral wheat. 3.75 T: Similar to nose, but less acidic. Slight astringent finish. 3.25 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Feels somewhat dead on the tongue. 3.5 D: It’s decent, but overrated based on the reviews. ★ 491 characters DavoleBomb, Apr 05, 2015

Dark brown with a big beige head. Aroma is chocolate and fruits but there is also some sulfur comparable to the one on matches. Taste is moderately sweet with a delicate sourness. It isn’t a typical stout at all. I would compare it to the rest of BFM beers but without intensity and with a bit sulfur. Not the best beer from this brewer.
