Panda pop from Lowcostbeer. It pours ever so slightly hazy deep orange brown with no head. The aroma is musty, funky, barnyard, apple skin, apple pie, apple cider vinegar, damp oak and chamomile. The taste is firmly dry and tannic upfront, dry oak, bitter - sweet character, juicy apple, tangy, apple skin, crunchy, funk, autumnal spice, damp leaves, forest undergrowth, splash of acidity with apple cider vinegar and some funky barnyard vibes in the backdrop. It finishes as it starts - bone dry and tannic. Medium body and fairly oily mouth feel. Nice depth and interesting flavour profile. Good hearty cider.

Tricky Cider Medium Dry (Bottle)
500ml from local (to Ilminster) farm shop- Barley Mow’s, with some evil slivers of Barkham Blue and Ogle Shield. Wow. The Barkham gets an 18/20 on ratecheese.com. The cider has an arresting aroma of mouldering funk, bubblegum yeast and TCP interest. Clean but funky fruit with a tickle of fizz, oak, TCP and calamine. Bit washy to finish. But sound. And the real cider-mouldy cheese thing is filling my world with joy right now.

From polycask (gravity dispense) at Great British Beer Festival, day 4 on 5 August 2011. Noted at 6.0%. Mid-gold colour. Pulpy apple aroma with a touch of farmyard on the nose. Quite dry and tart on the palate, with some woody notes. Designated "5" on the GBBF sweetness scale, which means medium-dry, but it certainly seemed dryer than the designation might suggest. Rather austere but very decent.

Tricky Cider Medium (Draught)
Polypin, room temp. @ The Plough Inn, Taunton, Somerset.
Bright, medium gold tinged orange and completely still. With just a touch of apple flesh and core showing on the nose the rest is all funky, dank horse hair and mould, wood, rusted car bodies, doughy white cheese and well used hessian, a whiff that is pleasantly full of character but a bit out there too. Rough, drawing, tannic and very hairy palate, really dries out whatever was there, takes over my once salivating palate. Very light yet oily body, strange combo, and extraordinarily long in the swallow. Lots of cellar must, and hairy to the point I had thoughts of what wirey Jack russel hair would taste and feel like. The fruit notes are of aged, husky apples, the peel and core include, with little in complex esters showing. An interesting Scrumpy, full of life and willing to take it too. Nice!!!
