Back Forty Naked Pig Pale Ale 2.9
1oz bottle poured into a shaker. The aroma is pine-sol-like with a citrus and floral touch along with a medicinal / chemical note and a touch of a funky, sour fruit. It pours clear and oily with a light amber hue and a white soapy head that has moderate retention and lace. The taste is a medium sweet and slightly north of medium bitter. The beer is oily with fizzy carbonation and a medium body. Flavors of underippe stone fruit and bread are most noted with a hint of a bitter citrus juice. The finish is zesty citrus with a floral dryness and leaves an cloying aftertaste of floral, bitter citrus.

Nice IPA from Alabama (enjoying in the cold North of Canada)! Golden yellow pour, one finger foam head that surprisingly yielded no lacing. Good flavours here, nice notes of tropical fruits and citrus, earthy herbal hop bitterness with notes of pine and a good caramel malt backing.

APPEARANCE- Golden amber, deep orange hues. Frosty white head with stellar lacing. NOSE- Resinous pine comes through, but itís not overpowering. FLAVOR- citrus prevalent in the initial sip, giving way to balanced resin flavors. As it warms up, the resin predominates the flavor. Malt backbone balances the hop flavors nicely. NOTES- solid IPA, well balanced and flavorful.

Black color, small head. Strong coffee character, quite good quality; the beer is drier than expected, I would have appreciated more if sweeter, but itís still good as is; warming alcohol feeling.
Lean, well crafted.

12 oz. bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out roasted espresso beans upfront, with a touch of roasted malt in general. Flavour is robust, with espresso beans dominating the palate. Very dry palate, with no residual sweetness, and a medium palate. Really enjoyable stuff. I like it more than the current average.

transparent gold, effervescent with thick dense white head. Delicate nose is very dry paper bitterness up front, light Belgian yeast influence in candy sugar, pillowy dry grain and peppery malt in waves. Awesome nose. Flatter flavor but still fantastic balance and attenuation.. heavy grass bitterness up front with light cracked grain mid, bit thin and filmy, the hops growing with warmth. This is SOLID. Supper attenuated, no messy sweetness, solid malt complexity, expressive yeast in the nose..

Appearance: opaque solid block with no highlights, one finger of dense beige head, good retention and no lacing. (4/5) Aroma: slightly astringent coffee, dark roasty malt, light chocolate. (7/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate-strong bitter. (6/10) Palate: medium-full slightly oily body, moderate-low carbonation, dry slightly astringent finish. (3/5) The coffee starts off a little astringent, especially in the aroma, but it mellows a bit through the glass. I couldnít find any indication of ABV on the bottle, but if the published value of 8% is correct, itís quite well-implemented and doesnít intrude at all. Not bad, not great. (13/20)

12oz bottle, thanks to shrubber85. Shared with 3 friends. Honestly he gave it to me around 3 months ago, but I was nervous abut opening it because the date on it is 11/21/14. Bottle foams just upon opening, but it doesnít spill over, just goes halfway up the neck. Sure enough, it does taste a little off, but itís not too bad. Maybe a slight brett action here. Itís effervescent, soft carbonation. Dry finish. Clear golden color. Ring and web of white head. Leaves a bit of lace. Some herbal character, a little citrus, bit of farmhouse type funk and a little mustiness. Not too bad, really, a lot better than expected. The funk has done alright here, a lot better than I think it would have been without it. Medium body, kind of an effervescent carbonation. Dry finish. Light to moderate bitter, very light sweet... dry overall. Touch of tang. Overall, surprisingly alright. A touch brett infected I think, but if you look at it as a brett pale ale it kind of works. Nothing too bad about it.

Looks like a good brown ale, but doesnít taste nearly as good as it looks. I donít get any sweetness or extra alcohol Iíd expect for a honey beer. If there are some bittering hops, incant really pick them out - but there is a distinct earthy flavor. Overall, not great.

Pours clear yellow with a fairly tick and fine-bubbled eggshell head. Fruity aroma has a malty hint, and is not strong but still invites a taste. Flavor has little more gumption, fruity and malty with a pinch of hops. Mouthfeel features average body and fizz, while finish is fruity and surprisingly hoppy. Donít sit on the fence post, enjoy it.
