22oz bottle pours a murky brown with a ring of off white head. Nose has caramel and rootbeer and vanilla flavoring. Flavor has rootbeer with a shot of vanilla vodka. Sticky, cloying finish.

Pours a red-brown cola color with a short lived foamy tan head. Smells of vanilla, honey, traditional root beer. Taste is sweet, spiced, very mildly bitter - vanilla and herbs, a bit of astringent aftertaste. A thicker mouthfeel than the lower alcohol version.

Dark brown caramel color. Tan head quickly dissipates. Smells straight like barqs root beer. A little anise. Slightly metallic taste. Alcohol finish. Meh

Poured from a 16 OZ can into a pint glass. The appearance is a clear light yellow color with a medium sized white head. The aroma is grain and corn. The taste is surprisingly good, made up of malt and grains. Overall, an excellent lager.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours crystal clear very dark brown color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, maple syrup, molasses, vanilla, wood, cola, mint, nutmeg, licorice, light cocoa, toasted bread, and herbal/spice earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark malt and spice notes; with great strength. Taste of huge caramel, brown sugar, maple syrup, molasses, vanilla, wood, cola, mint, nutmeg, licorice, light cocoa, toasted bread, and herbal/spice earthiness. Light-moderate herbal bitterness and spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, maple syrup, molasses, vanilla, wood, cola, mint, nutmeg, licorice, light cocoa/toast, and herbal/spice earthiness on the finish fora while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark malt and spice flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light dryness from bitter/spiciness as well. Medium carbonation and full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky, lightly slick/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is an outstanding spiced beer. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark malt and spice flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

22oz bottle at the July DC tasting. I figured this would be awful. This is what it is, and honestly - I like the regular 5.9% version of this. This one is a dialed up version of it. Sarsaparilla, birch, vanilla dominate the aroma. It even pours like a soda, though I would say this has a touch less carbonation than a typical root beer soda. Flavor retains the root beer essence, but plays up a little more vanilla with a touch more booze in it.

Type: 22-oz. bottle Glass: Lagunitas mason jar From: Barons Market in Alpine, Calif. Price: $7.99 Purchased: July 17, 2016 Consumed: July 17, 2016 Reviewed as: Herbed/Spice Beer Misc.: No BOD on bottle First time I saw it in stores out here and had to pick it up. Really liked the basic version and was happy to recently hear that this one was going national as well. These are always tough to review as it hardly seems like beer, but I guess a herbed/spice beer makes sense. Have high hopes as I gave the original version a 4.45 last July. Expecting to at least be in the 4.25-to-4.35 range. Poured a dark brown-to-light black opaque color with two fingers of frothy khaki-tan head. Surprised with the head as most alcoholic root beers I try tend to fizz out quickly. Excellent spiderweb foamy lacing. Outstanding retention. I canít believe how good this beer looks compared to other alcoholic root beers. (Sight - 4.25) Smelled like root beer as expected, maybe more vanilla than I anticipated. Got vanilla, licorice, molasses, sugary caramel, hints of toasted brown sugar and herbal notes. Maybe got a touch of booze. (Smell - 4.75) Tasted just like the nose, just fantastic. More creamy than the original. Got root beer, creamy vanilla, sugary molasses, black licorice, Circus Peanuts candy, sugary caramel, brown sugar and still those herbal medicine notes. Could definitely taste the booze here and got that warming feeling down the gut right away. Getting hints of banana and/or cloves as well. (Taste - 4.50) Medium body. Creamy-to-sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, warming finish. (Feel - 4.50) This was incredible for the style. Say what you want about root beer ďbeersĒ but this is the best Iíve had for sure. (Overall - 4.50) 4.55 100 A+

This is one of my go-to beers! The 5.9% version is so drinkable, Iím certain that you can give a kid one and heíll go through a whole six-pack with no clue while playing video games. Itís so drinkable its scary. This 10.7% version is more like a beer. It still has the jam-packed root beer punch, but each swig that you take is accompanied by a buzz, without the boozy finish! itís STILL scarily drinkable. Awesome beer this one is.

710 ml can from Drummondville depanneur. Pours a lightly cloudy golden colour with average white head. Itís downhill from there. Aroma is sweet with some fruitiness and lots of harsh booziness. Flavour is also harsh and boozy with sweet fruit and some graininess. This is pretty bad.

A pretty standard pale lager. When fresh from an ice bath it is quite refreshing and void of most flavor. A hint of hop bitterness rounded out with light malt sweetness. As it warms on the beach it gets quite off-putting. Nothing to see here, move along.

Apparently PBR is drunk ironically by mega hipsters in the US much like Reschs is here in Sydney. Anyway..pint can into shaker. Nose is rice and cleaning products. Amber beer with solid white head. High carbonation. Watery taste and mouthfeel. Crisp, short, sweet finish. Typical American industrial lager, sweeter than most.

Rainier Pale Mountain Ale
16 oz bottle, second half poured. First half tried to foam out upon prying the cap, but I refused to let a drop go to waste. Iím rating this, because I was born and raised in Washington, and damn proud of it. So intrigued by the six packs of this that popped up, but went with the single instead. The average Rainier product lasts quite a while in my fridge. I donít mind it, but typically use it as a palate cleanser between sours. This one gave me a sense of expectation though. Didnt throw down a bet or anything, but maybe I should have. Itís pretty good. Cloudy copper pour. Biscuit, cereal malt aroma and flavor. Hints of bran. Good hop compliments. Iíd go with the whole six pack of this. Pretty good beer overall. New Rainier beer means we are bringing back the motorcycle commercial right? Raaaaiii.. nevermind.

St. Ides Special Brew - Passion
This is an orange and cloudy brew w/ a big fruity noes... is what I would say if this were an actual adult beverage and not alcoholic Kool Aid. It seems somewhat less horribly sweet than some of the other beverages in this lineup w/ some interesting foxy grape and floral tones around the edges. Like most passion fruit flavored beverages, it doesnít really taste like passion fruit just sort of non-specifically tropical.

St. Ides Special Brew - Kiwi-Strawberry
This stuff tastes like gobbling down Starburst by the handful, which is to say itís delicious but makes you feel sick to your stomach and deeply, emotionally depressed. It has a slight floral note and aside from being horribly sweet and sugary is not too bad to drink. I mean, itís garbage but fuck it.

This is clear pinkish purple and headless. It tastes very much like Kool Aid, too sweet and just vaguely fruity w/ the only thing jumping out as vaguely natural being a kind of astringent cranberry quality.

Copper amber color with a tall foamy beige head. Light floral hops aroma with a bit of sweet malt. Flavor is a medicinal, almost metallic bitterness with a sweet caramel malt tone finishing it up. Medium bodied with minimal carbonation and a sweet slightly piney finish. It;s a decent ale for the price.

Letís face it -- this beer serves a purpose, and it serves it well. A 30 pack costs less than 17 bucks here, and if you slam enough of these, you will get drunk. And thatís the point...you CAN slam enough of these. Doesnít cause headaches for me. However, it is what it is, and is scored as such.

Bottle. Sarsaparilla, licorice, wintergreen, and alcohol aroma. Dark brown with moderate head. Very sweet sarsaparilla/sassafras, licorice, and moderate alcohol flavor. Good body, low carbonation. Pretty good if youíre in the mood for hard root beer (or you could buy a pint of root beer schnapps for about the same price).

Bomber from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours brown with a beige/tan head. Aroma is root beer. Med + body. Flavor is root beer, but thereís a lot of sugariness. Carbonation is not like the old A&W versions. :) But itís root beer, and the heat is hardly discernible. It is more or less what it purports to be.

16 oz. can. Dark maghony color, lasting white, foamy head. Nose is light bread, weak pine and yeast.

Flavor of caramel/ English toffee backbone. Almost no hops for balance but it does show some citrus. Malts give slight earth tones. Body is decent lighter side of medium. For a mass-produced ale, this is not bad. If this recipe is from the 1930ís Iím kind of impressed.
