Pabst Brewing Company Reviews

Small Town Not Your Fathers Root Beer (5.9%) 2.5
12oz bottle. Very dark brown with no head but the perception of a huge carbonation. Smells like a very sweet, A&W root beer - pretty much bang on. I enjoy root beer so itís amazing. It is however very sweet with a lot of vanilla, mild carbonation and moderate body, pretty much just like root beer but without the pleasant affects of ice to both cool it down and dilute. Alcohol is well hidden and its very sweet throughout...not sure I would even describe this as a beer and find it very hard to rate...really just root beer that happens to be alcoholic and brewed.

romAa of frozen corn and straw. Pale yellow but has a nice head. Funky spiced corn taste, fizzy body like a soft drink. Not complaining but this isnít differentiated from others like it.

Bright pale straw color. White 2 finger head lasting around 3 minutes. Average legs and activity. Faint aromas and flavors of corn, citrus and sugar. A lot more bitter than sweet, slightly vinous. Slick light body with prickly carbonation. Faint finish, but quite long, ending with a dry bitter smoky roasted corn aftertaste and fake sweetness. Overall : Fresh but bland and overly accessible. Too bitter for a lager in my taste.

Small Town Not Your Fathers Root Beer (5.9%) 3.1
Poured into a pint glass. More reminiscent of a soda than a beer. Smelled like root beer. Tasted like root beer with alcohol added. Overall this was an interesting beverage but not one I would drink again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Not so bad for a cheap beer . Golden color . Medium-sized, white head , which quickly disappeared. Aroma of corn and hay . When it got warmer, notes of alcohol showed up. Sweet , malty taste with some bitterness at the end . Drinkable.

Can. Easy to obtain and cheap American lager. Just like Yuengling not that special, but still better than all the ílightí-brews that you can find. Drinkable when cold, easy to quench on a hot day. If you are in to nothing that special, Pabst is quite okay for a while.

Small Town Not Your Fathers Root Beer (5.9%) 1.6
Bottle@home, from Constantinoís, Cleveland, USA. Strong sweet, artificial aroma of vanilla, very much like toothpaste. Deep brown/red color with no head. Strong highly sweet taste of vanilla and a bit of cherry. Balanced with narrow taste spectrum and short sugary aftertaste. Medium/light body with medium carbonation. Overall, too aggressive and sweet, just like liquid toothpaste.

Ballantine Burton Ale 1.5
I donít think I ever tasted a BW from a macro, heheh, let alone on tap. Tap, and it smells a little like volatile perfume, cutting across your olfactory. A slightly darker brew like lighter iced tea. This stuff is true to its American young style; big rude nasty mouth coating in yer face brew, needs a few years or even a decade to age. Yes, a big high alky crude brew and I am surprised about the deScription, it was supposedly brewed in the 1930s for the high society, but they aged it like sherry before distribution. Now they brew it and give it away fresh, HAH. A little spice on the finish flows thru with all the other high alky crass attitudes. And yea, in the deScription it says it should be aged up to 20 years, thatís right, but youíll have to wait until 2025 to taste it, hehehehh, not me! This stuff is cloyingly fresh typical American barleywine fer sure. Put this away in a bomber and then call me in 5 years my ratebeerian friend.

473ml can. Pours a light, clear gold with a foamy white head. Doesnít dissipate nearly as quickly as some. Aroma is corny and a touch sour. Hint of sweetness and alcohol nuttiness. Flavor is alcoholic and dry, some metal, sugar, corn. Not a favorite malt though it is smooth.

Very interesting, definitely more root beer then beer. Pours a soda-like deep brown with no head. Smells of root beer. Taste is root beer, but softened, less carbonated, and a bit of porter in the finish. Had in the bottle. M

The alcohol is hidden. Medium bodied. I donít know what else to say other then "this is Root Beer" and I liked it.

Tastes and smells like a root beer, but I found the vanilla to be overpowering and no hint of spice whatsoever. Excessive sweetness overpowers your senses, so best served over crushed ice to dilute the sweetness. Overall, this isn't something is buy again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

My husbandís favorite beer but I do not see the attraction. To me it lacks character and aroma. This, watery, tastes like carbonation, bread, resin, dough, alcohol, cheap beer. It is filling and makes me feel too full too quickly. I can barely get a can of this stuff down.

I drank this straight out the can. Not much depth of flavor, itís thin bodied with a little bit of corn sweetness and light mouth feel. Refreshing and nice change of pace. Overall one of the better cheap beers, on par with Narragansett.

Heilemans Old Style 2.4
16 oz. can pours a clear golden color with fizzy white head. Aroma is not overwhelming, but has some corn, cereal, and perhaps apple. Taste is slightly sweet with a metallic finish. Body is light with lively carbonation. Pretty bland, but OK as far as cheap mass-produced pale lagers go. This one hasnít changed much since it was brewed in LaCrosse, WI where the brewery featured 6 silos painted as a six-pack of Old Style tall boys. Perhaps its longevity and nostalgia makes me rate this higher than I should.

Pours transparent amber color with narrow white ring of foam. Pleasant aroma of spiced apples, figs, toffee, and traces of oak. Big malt flavors; caramel and brown sugar. The sweetness is somewhat balanced by earthy tobacco flavors. Syrupy, rich, and very enjoyable. Alcohol is well hidden.

I am not even going to go into aroma, appearance, and so on. Everyone has struggled through a beer like this. That said... I do drink Olympia quite a bit. It is a cheap beer for when your drinking all day and donít mind comprising the finer things about beer. It is best when you drink it cold and fast.

Ballantine Burton Ale 4
12oz. bottle: This one pours a crystal clear amber color. There was a small off white head that dropped off quickly and left almost no lacing. The nose is nice. I get some toffee, oak and vanilla as the main components. Some dark fruits in the background. The taste is good. Lots of malts. A bit of sweetness. Caramel malts, hint of vanilla, oakiness. Some faint pine hops, but absolutely no bitterness from them. Very smooth. A good offering. I like this homage to an old historical brew.

Has the smell of a traditional root beer, and the color to match. Best served cold, like soda. Taste is much sharper than a soda, and lingers rather unpleasantly.

12 oz bottle, 2015; like I would have one older. Beautiful clear honey brown with beige froth. Nose is toffee, vanilla and red berries with hints of mint. Slick medium body with soft carb, a bit sticky. Taste is butterscotch, apple, grainy alcohol and cardboard, fading to bitter grass. Simple but rather nice.

ARH
Lone Star 1.6
12 oz bottle. The aroma is mild with corn and grain, and a late cardboard pizza box. It appears as a watery pale color with a thin, sudsy head that has mild retention and and leaves a light lace. The taste is a medium light sweet. The texture is watery with fizzy carbonation and a light body. The flavor profile is cornbread bread and cardboard, finishing crisp with just a subtle hint of underripe citrus, cornbread, and bread crust. The aftertaste is mild and dry with a light, cloying pizza crust.

Natty Boh is the juice of the gods so step the shit off with all the snobbery and bullshit. The best cheap beer on the market. Itís clear as water, smells like cardboard and refreshing as fuck. You can get a 12 pack for 7.99 meaning you can crush beer on a budget. Itís for when youíre tired of swirling some double ipa or whatever in a glass and you need to chill out and just wind the fuck down. Or you could drink 12 and rage. Either or, itís probably the best cheap beer and my beer fridge always has some natty boh in it. Always. Cheers.

Ballantine Burton Ale 4.2
Sampled on draft at Tapped this beer poured a dark caramel-brown color with orange highlights and a medium sized creamy white head that left great lacing. The aroma was ripe dark and golden fruits and an undertone of brown sugar. The flavor was sweet, tangy and very fruity with notes of cherry, plum and fig coming out, fruit cocktail throughout and a bit of alcohol that worked well. very long finish of sweet fruits and fruit cocktail. Thick body. Wonderful.

Not your fathers root beer, and apparently not mine either? Aroma is sweet from vanilla and other spices. Taste is, well root beer, and is annoyingly sweet and you feel your diabetes coming on fast. If you like root beer you are in for a treat, but this is not my jam.
