Arcadia Brewing Company Reviews

Arcadia Thunder Trail 3.2
Bottle from Reading BF 2016. Clear amber brown colour lasting beige head. Fresh hoppy aroma good bitterness. Lacks some malt depth but itís not a bad attempt at an ESB. Some white pepper hop . A decent attempt at a ESB but lacks the malt clout

Arcadia Something Else 3.6
Tap at Clubhouse BFD. Pours ruby color, nitro cream head. Aroma is cinnamon, cherry, cranberry, little bit of funk. Flavor is christmas fruit cake, cherry. Christmas-y.

Arcadia Rapunzel 2.9
Aroma of malt and some citrus. Malty mess like most of these average beers. Not much of a wheat as I can tell. Pours light orange with a thin cream head. Bleh
Monday, April 25, 2016

Arcadia Hop Rocket 3.7
Aroma is pine, hops and a hint of nail polish. The flavor is citrus, grapefruit, complex fruit, malts, tropical fruit and a mix of tart and bitter in the finish.

Arcadia Loch Down 4.1
Smells like caramel malt. Looks like Coke. Tastes like watery caramel malt. Feels like velvet water. This is my favorite dark beer at the moment. It is ridiculously drinkable. Not too sweet, not heavy, not boozy or bitter. Just a little bit of all the right things and 8%ABV. Love it.

Arcadia Cereal Killer Barleywine 3.6
Bottle from Hopology, Nottingham. Rhayader ruby red colour. No head. Aroma berry fruit, spicy dark stewed fruit and vanilla. Taste is fruity sweet, and a touch of alcohol. Medium body.

Arcadia Loch Down 3.4

Arcadia Bourbon Barrel Shipwreck Porter (2011-) 3.7
12 oz bottle from Tavour. Nose is chocolate, light bourbon, and vanilla. Black with a medium tan head. Flavor is bourbony, with vanilla and chocolate. Nicely flavored, better than the aroma by itself.
Saturday, April 16, 2016

Arcadia Bourbon Barrel Shipwreck Porter (2011-) 3.8
(bottle) clear, bright, dark brown colour with a small beige head; aroma starts with wet wood, jam, develops into vanilla, dried fruit; rich, balanced flavour with a long, light bitter finish, well hidden alcohol

Arcadia Sky High Rye 3.9
Golden with a nice white foam. Rye and grass aroma. Great flavors of spice and hop resins. Finish is slightly astringent.

Arcadia Brigidís Irish Red 3
Draft to taster at the Kalamazoo brewpub. Looks solid; a mostly transparent amberish caramel with ample foamy off-white head. Smells malty with notes of ale yeast and a touch of molasses alongside softer notes of hops and toast. Tastes like it smells with a slightly bitter and fairly crisp medium-light to medium bodied mouthfeel. A bit of caramel on the tongue as well. Not bad.

Arcadia Loch Down 3.8
12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 11/20/2015. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy dark reddish brown color with a 1 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, cocoa, raisin, plum, apple, light peat smoke/tobacco, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, cocoa, raisin, plum, apple, light peat smoke/tobacco, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/roast bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, cocoa, light peat smoke/tobacco, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light dryness from hop/roasted notes as well. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, and slightly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice Scotch ale style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Arcadia Whitsun 2.9
Pine Box Rock Shop, Brooklyn tap: pours light orange with a white head. Atoma is orange and spice and wheat beer whatever. Taste is lightly spiced. It be a bit sweet. Would not know that it has as much alcohol as it does. Not a bad beer but uninspired. A relic of a bygone era.

Arcadia Hopmouth 3.2
Pint pour- nice brownish gold color with lots of good citrus hop in the smell. Too bad the hop smell doesnít make good on its promise. Lots of bitterness in the middle and in the finish. Nevertheless fairly balanced with malty sweetness.

Arcadia Whitsun 2.8
Draught at NYC Craft beer festival clear yellow white head Aroma of sweet citrus taste bitter citrus, flat taste

Arcadia Bourbon Barrel Shipwreck Porter (2011-) 4.3
Review is of a bottle that was aged roughly 2 years Pours a black body with walnut highlights. Head is sand colored and 1/5 of an inch. Head retention and lacing were pretty good. Smell is of molasses, brown sugar, charred oak, fudge, and slight bourbon. Hops arent present but alcohol is definitely there. Taste is pretty sweet for a barrel aged baltic porter, getting molasses, chocolate covered cocoa beans, some vanilla and oak. Alcohol is smooth for a 12% barrel aged porter. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a nice frothy head that stuck around for a long time. Carbonation levels were good also. Overall this was an amazing beer that kind of took me by surprise. Tons of flavor melded beautifully with the bourbon barrel. Alcohol was restrained but still had a nice warming presence. Dont know if aging two years mattered that much but will try getting some fresh ones to compare.

Arcadia Cheap Date 3.3
Draught @ Albion. Pale yellow with small foamy off-white head, faint citrus peel aroma, medium carbonation, slightly sweet citrus peel taste, thin body, medium bitter tropical fruit finish. Decent IPA.

Arcadia Sky High Rye 3
Can at bar in NYC. Yeah it seemed like a rye beer to me but it was so old that the hops had faded to a gross malt bomb. :(
Saturday, March 26, 2016

Arcadia Whitsun 3.2
Can at NYC Craft beer festival. Pours hazy yellow. Malty aroma. Taste of sweet fruits.
Friday, March 25, 2016

Arcadia IPA 3.5

Arcadia porter Rico 3.8
12 oz bottle. A nice beer with a unique taste all to its own. Do it a favor and have one soon.
Wednesday, March 23, 2016

Arcadia porter Rico 2.9
Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate-heavy coconut butter, light-moderate chocolate, and a touch of roast. It pours a dark brown with some orange highlights and a one finger beige head that quickly fades to a minimal film outlined by a thin ring. There is some sporadic webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with a quick dose of moderate chocolate. The finish has moderate-heavy coconut, light tartness, and roast. Itís light-medium bodied with light-moderate carbonation. Overall, the coconut is a little too much for me and Iím not a big fan of the light tartness.

Arcadia Hopmouth 3.7
Brownish red in appearance, smells of Carmel and malt, taste big hops and citrus with a pretty hard alcohol taste at the end, oily texture in the mouth, but itís a solid dipa with a lot of flavor...enjoy

Thursday, March 17, 2016

Arcadia Cheap Date 3.4
Clear yellow pour with a white head. Aroma is slight pine hop. Taste is mild pine hops, nice malt body, easy to drink beer. Nice lasting flavor. Nice session beer. So-so lacing.
Saturday, March 05, 2016

Arcadia Rapunzel 3.3
Pours a cloudy, light, amber color. Aroma is light with some wheat, caramel malts, and a hint of caramel malts. Flavor is hoppier than I expected. Wheat and caramel malts are also on the finish.
Friday, March 04, 2016

Arcadia Bourbon Barrel Shipwreck Porter (2011-) 1.6
On tap at patricks in moon. Big & black. Somewhat neutral aroma. Big strong initial boozy impact. A little more rude than I was expecting. Big volatile kick in the jaw. Quite ruff indeed. Coarse around the edges. Difficult, almost like floor stripper. If there is any co2, Iíd say its well hidden by this nasty impact. A strong over th top alky beer experience fer sure. Did not like.

Arcadia Cereal Killer Barleywine 3.5

Friday, March 04, 2016

Arcadia Cheap Date 3.1

Arcadia Cocoa Loco Triple Chocolate Stout 2.7
The deScription here is generous. Thin..especially for a brew that touts it is made with molasses and lactose. It isnít bitter at all and it does have a very nice deep dark appearance.
Monday, February 29, 2016

Arcadia porter Rico 3.5
Bottle: Nearly black....rubied brown with a thick tan head. Coconut oil and chocolate aroma. Taste is coconut and coconut husks and sun tan lotion. Earthy, nutty bitter....oily and slick. Interesting and different.

Arcadia Jaw-Jacker 2.5
Poured into a pint glass. 3.0 A: Moderately hazed medium orange color. Two fingers of frothy/creamy beige head. Retention is a touch below average and a short ring of lacing is left. 3.25 S: Pumpkin spices featuring cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice. Caramel maltiness with toastiness underneath. It doesnít have much of an actual pumpkin component - it seems spice heavy. Still, itís pleasant. 3.0 T: Taste is like the nose. Itís spice heavy without a pumpkin backbone. Toasty and caramel malts. 2.75 M: Light to lighter medium body. Watery feel. Good moderate carbonation. Lacking creaminess. 2.75 D: Itís not horrible, but itís one of the weaker pumpkin beers Iíve had this year. ★ 695 characters DavoleBomb, Dec 10, 2015

Arcadia Anglers Ale 2.6
Malty aroma with hints of biscuit. Good strength and nice on palate. All in all nice one. Second pint not good. Marked down 0.8

Arcadia porter Rico 3.4
Pour out of 12 oz bottle, dark reddish black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of sour fruit, slight grass, cocoa notes, touch of slight vanilla and coconut, slight earth, spice notes. Taste was a mix of big coconut, mounds bar, hints of cocoa, slight vanilla into a bit of caramel, dark cocoa, hints of roast, finishing sweet.
Saturday, February 20, 2016

Arcadia Brown Cow 3.3
Dark beer out of the howler with a short lived and disappearing beige head. Nose of tart fruit, wet wood and some bourbon. Not a lot of carbonation. I get a lot of the tart cherry, a bit of brett funk, wet wood and an alcoholic bourbon in the finish. Hints of milk chocolate. Surprisingly thin body. The brett comes out in the finish. The Arcadia website says this was a late summer/early fall release so Iím curious how a grocery store in Avon, OH ended up with a keg in February.
Saturday, February 20, 2016

Arcadia Hopmouth 3.8
Bottle. Oak, caramel malt, pine, citrus and resin notes. Strength isnít grand in this beer but the flavors do so much that I almost wish it had more kick to go with it. Love the earth vibes here and mild sweetness.

Arcadia Imperial Stout 3.9
Bottle. As expected, this is dark and brooding. Nice pile of foam. Rich aroma of licorice, raw coffee. The drink has some unexpected sweet swirl on the outer part of the palate. Great evening sipper for a cool evening. (#6133, 2/17/2016)
Wednesday, February 17, 2016

Arcadia Cheap Date 3.5
Bottle. Hazy, pale golden pour, foamy white head with decent retention and lace. Nose is citrus, grass, lemon zest. Mouth is light bodied, sharp carbonation, grapefruit, passion fruit, mild bitterness. Yeah, itís a damp and chilly February night in Chicago, but Spring is a mere 32 days away, and then summer. Forget waiting til afterwards... this is one of those I could drink WHILE cutting the grass.
Wednesday, February 17, 2016

Arcadia Loch Down 3.6
Bottle. Deep chestnut pour, medium foamy off-white head, okay lacing. Sort of a muted caramel, malty nose, like candy from the county fair. Mouth is where it earns its keep: medium sweet, chewy malt, maple sugar candy, raisins, dates, caramel, toasted pumpernickel, mild bitterness balances everything out. Not a homerun in all areas, but tastes delicious, which is what counts most.
Wednesday, February 10, 2016

Arcadia Bourbon Barrel Shipwreck Porter (2011-) 3.8
Pours black with low tan head. Aroma of bourbon, lots of it, chocolate, some roasted malt, dried fruits, muscovado. Taste is sweet and sticky, bourbon and chocolate, with a lingering alcohol warming finish. Rich, smooth body with soft carbonation.
Wednesday, February 10, 2016

Arcadia porter Rico 2.4
Pours a dark brown with a thin tan ring. Lots of carbonation. Strong aroma of coconut and alcohol under tones. Very thin for a porter. Alcohol is more prominent than the coconut flavor. Not nearly as nearly as good as I expected. Too boozy and not enjoyable.
Sunday, February 07, 2016

Arcadia Hop Rocket 3.6
Bottled 12/17/15. Pours deep hazy orange, off white head. Aroma is tough to describe. Lemon, pine, some grapefruit, almost like a touch of bubblegum, a sweet almost toffee/sugar malt, slight dankness. Pretty nice. Flavor is burnt sugar, some residual sugar sweetness, again like this weird bubblegum note I get. Grapefruit, lemon, really like sugary, it?s sweet. Someild hop bitterness in the finish. Yea, residual sugar moreso in the finish, some booziness too. It?s good. Doesn?t blow my mind but it?s good.

Arcadia B-Craft Black 3
On tap at Arcadia 02/03/16 - B-Craft delivers a complex bundle of flavors with citrus-hop aroma. Moving beyond the massive hop aroma, rich roasted malt flavors of coffee and chocolate move forward only to be checked by an impressive hop bitterness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Arcadia Starboard Stout 3.2

Arcadia IPA 3.3
Bottle. Pungent aroma a mixed bag of earthy/pine hop, spice, caramel, peaches and citrus. Hop content doesnít produce much bitterness but the flavors are quite good. Peach, orange, hop, spice, floral, malt.
Monday, February 01, 2016

Arcadia Cereal Killer Barleywine 3
Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle, 2013, poured into a snifter. Clear dark Amber with no head. Aroma is caramel malt, medium body, low carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is caramel malt and some alcohol.
Saturday, January 30, 2016

Arcadia Morning Nightcap 4.2
This is a great coffee porter. Iíd say itís more of a stout than a porter but really there is no difference. The bitterness all comes from the coffee, not the hops because who the fuck wants a hoppy porter? No one. This beer is really well done and they should be proud and sell it more places.
Saturday, January 30, 2016

Arcadia Rapunzel 2.7
Orange-Amber color lots of lace. Hop, wheat, barley aroma. Flavor is substantially less exciting than the sky high rye. Less bite, more hop and not as balanced. Malt heavy.
Friday, January 29, 2016

Arcadia Sky High Rye 3.4
Clear bronze pour, some headish. Watery aroma, rye, barley, resin hop, malt, pine and something a little sweet, thinking itís the peach. Flavor is more mild and not as exciting. Bready and earthy with more pine and rye hop. A slight bitterness at the end plays with the fruit to make this beer almost memorable. Still not my favorite.
Friday, January 29, 2016

Arcadia Jaw-Jacker 3.2
Pours pumpkin orange with a thin white head. Cinnamon and nutmeg but not much in the way of pumpkin. Not bad but itís easy to find better pumpkins.
