Arcadia Brewing Company Reviews

Arcadia Hop Rocket 3.6
Bottled 12/17/15. Pours deep hazy orange, off white head. Aroma is tough to describe. Lemon, pine, some grapefruit, almost like a touch of bubblegum, a sweet almost toffee/sugar malt, slight dankness. Pretty nice. Flavor is burnt sugar, some residual sugar sweetness, again like this weird bubblegum note I get. Grapefruit, lemon, really like sugary, it?s sweet. Someild hop bitterness in the finish. Yea, residual sugar moreso in the finish, some booziness too. It?s good. Doesn?t blow my mind but it?s good.

Arcadia B-Craft Black 3
On tap at Arcadia 02/03/16 - B-Craft delivers a complex bundle of flavors with citrus-hop aroma. Moving beyond the massive hop aroma, rich roasted malt flavors of coffee and chocolate move forward only to be checked by an impressive hop bitterness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Arcadia IPA 3.3
Bottle. Pungent aroma a mixed bag of earthy/pine hop, spice, caramel, peaches and citrus. Hop content doesnít produce much bitterness but the flavors are quite good. Peach, orange, hop, spice, floral, malt.

Arcadia Cereal Killer Barleywine 3
Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle, 2013, poured into a snifter. Clear dark Amber with no head. Aroma is caramel malt, medium body, low carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is caramel malt and some alcohol.

Arcadia Morning Nightcap 4.2
This is a great coffee porter. Iíd say itís more of a stout than a porter but really there is no difference. The bitterness all comes from the coffee, not the hops because who the fuck wants a hoppy porter? No one. This beer is really well done and they should be proud and sell it more places.

Arcadia Rapunzel 2.7
Orange-Amber color lots of lace. Hop, wheat, barley aroma. Flavor is substantially less exciting than the sky high rye. Less bite, more hop and not as balanced. Malt heavy.
Friday, January 29, 2016

Arcadia Sky High Rye 3.4
Clear bronze pour, some headish. Watery aroma, rye, barley, resin hop, malt, pine and something a little sweet, thinking itís the peach. Flavor is more mild and not as exciting. Bready and earthy with more pine and rye hop. A slight bitterness at the end plays with the fruit to make this beer almost memorable. Still not my favorite.

Arcadia Jaw-Jacker 3.2
Pours pumpkin orange with a thin white head. Cinnamon and nutmeg but not much in the way of pumpkin. Not bad but itís easy to find better pumpkins.

Arcadia Barrel Aged Cereal Killer 4
On tap at Lunar Brewing Co., and snifter served showing a deepest mahogany, almost black hue, with a presentable layer of brownish, reddish, tan head foam that reduced expeditiously to a more lasting ring & film, and left spots & strands of lacing on the glass. The nose was chocolate, dark fruit as prune, sweetness, caramel, treacle, and barrel induced vanilla. Full bodied, with low carbonation, the taste started dry, yet sweet, with similar notes as the aroma, plus an added, dark fruit note as concord grape, with smooth, lingering booze and warmth. Slowly savored and wasnít disappointed.

Arcadia porter Rico 3.7
Pours a dark brown with a thin white head. Aroma is coconut and vanilla, and I thought there was some oak in there too, though thatís probably the coconut. Flavor is coconut, but not in your face coconut like Oskar Bluesí Death by Coconut, and some caramel. A little sweet. Has a light body. Pretty much a straight-up coconut porter, and a very well done coconut porter.

Arcadia XV 3.2
22oz bottle in a taster glass. Pours amber with an off-white head. Aroma of cherries, some light oak, pale and caramel malts, and some light bitterness. Flavor the same. Average texture. A decent beer but a little off compared to the bourbon version.

Arcadia 15th (Anniversary) 3.4
22oz bottle in a taster glass. Pours amber with an off-white head. Aroma of cherries, some bourbon, pale and caramel and lightly nutty malts, and some light bitterness. Flavor the same with a decent blend. Average texture. Cherries a little medicinal, and the style is weird, but the beer is not bad at all.

Arcadia Bourbon Barrel Shipwreck Porter (2011-) 4.3
Aroma is vanilla and light oak perfect overall. Taste has a light oak sour with a sweetness and malt thickness. Very nice. Nice dark with a head that fades quickly. Mouthfeel is perfect. I WILLL look for this one again. Amazing.

Arcadia porter Rico 3.4
Nice twist. I love porters and the coconut really makes this beer pop. Aroma was just ok. A little faint but all coconut and some roasted malt. Pour was a nice deep dark brown/near black with a thin tan film for a head. Taste was all roasted malt with a strong coconut backbone and finish. Amazing how after the swallow the coconut lingered in the sinuses like you were smoking a fresh coconut (if thatís even possible). Nice beer

Arcadia London Porter 3.9
In the glass it dark cocoa color with a medium head. Aroma of smoke, and some malts and a touch of cocoa. The taste is smooth with roasted malts, chocolate and some caramel. Not as thick as I thought. Good finish.

Arcadia porter Rico 3.6
I like interesting things.... And this definitely fits the bill. Itís like a mounds bar except without all the concerned stares from your friends.

Arcadia IPA 3.1
This kinda feels like youíre drinking mouth wash or something. It tastes good, but feels weird...
Saturday, January 16, 2016

Arcadia Hop Rocket 3.4
Draft to taster at the Kalamazoo brewpub. Looks solid; a completely transparent deeper good with white head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells and tastes like a bittersweet malt bomb with notes of floral and citrus hops. Mouthfeel is medium full-bodied and slightly hot. Solid, but unbalanced.

Arcadia Art Hops 3.1
Draft to imperial pint at the Kalamazoo brewpub. Looks solid; a transparent gold with white head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells bittersweet with a touch of soap alongside notes of citrus zest. Tastes like it smells with a medium-bodied mouthfeel. A touch of caramel too. Not bad.

Arcadia porter Rico 3
Smells like coconut and beer. Good head. Canít see through the beer. Taste initial hint of burnt coconut. The aftertaste is good, less burnt coconut taste.

Arcadia Imperial Stout 3.8
12oz bottle from Beer Bazaar in Hainesville. Bottle date is 12/18/2013. Pours black with a reddish tint, and little head. Aroma has licorice, anything else is minor in comparison. Taste is of big licorice, coffee, cocoa. Medium to full bodied with some alcohol. Finishes more sweet than bitter. The anise leads this, although it is blended interestingly with the coffee/cocoa. 14.4

Arcadia Barrel Aged Loch-Up Scotch Ale 1.4
12 oz bottle shared with ebone1988. This is from Dumpster Box No. 1. The pour is a nice deep ruby color with a thin khaki head and a small lingering ring with a soapy lace. The aroma is bad. This is infected as fuck. Lot of sour apple and bourbon. There is a boozy heat to it, but this is obviously spoiled. The flavor is horrific the apple is spoiled. Lots of magic marker. A hint of bourbon. Lots of wood and awful infected bullshit. The mouth feel is watery and thin. Hardly any carbonation. Lingering Apple and bourbon. Fuck this. Down the drain it goes. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Arcadia Barrel Aged Loch-Up Scotch Ale 1.3
I hear this one is infected, and the initial aroma indicates as such. Bottle shared with koleminer20, out of Dumpster Day box #1. Aroma is sour apple, skins, not sure what else to say. Appearance reddish brown, light tan head. Taste is permanent marker, infected. No sense in rating further.
Sunday, January 10, 2016

Arcadia B-Craft Black 3.4
Bottle shared with koleminer20, out of Dumpster Day box #1. Aroma is roasted malt, pine, bready. Appearance is dark brown, light tan head. Taste is lots of malt, roast, smoke, very light hop presence. Mouthfeel is medium body and light carbonation. Overall, Iíd say this is a slightly hoppy porter rather than a Black IPA.

Arcadia Loch Down 4
12 oz. bottle served in a tumbler- poured a somewhat transparent black with a heavy tint of maroon when held to a light source. Various size frog eyes upon the liquid surface- no head, no ring. Aroma of peat, scotch, and hardwood nuts. Hits the mouth with a wide and hard body, malt is appropriate for the size and style, middle has some mass to it, finish has some plum, earth, and peat to it. Delightful to say the least.
Saturday, January 09, 2016

Arcadia El Ocho 3.3
On tap at hopcat. A solid and balanced IPA. Orange peel flavor comes through but is not overwhelming nor is it overwhelmingly bitter.
Saturday, January 09, 2016

Arcadia Whitsun 2.5
12 oz. bottle served in a weizen glass- poured a transparent brown/orange color, no head, lively medium carbonation. Aroma of orange and some wheat. Hits the mouth with a light body, malt tastes like it was basted with way too much honey (and sugar), middle holds up well, finish is rather non descrept. Meh to ok.
Saturday, January 09, 2016

Arcadia IPA 2.9
Pours a clear, bubbly amber with a short light beige head. Aroma has caramel, floral hops, bread, and a light grapefruit. The taste is similar to what the nose offers. It has floral hops, caramel some lemon, with hints of grapefruit still noticeable. There really isnít any bitterness in here. Mild yet lingering lemon aftertaste. Medium in body, average in carbonation. Nothing stands out in the texture, so Iíll call it neutral. Overall, this is drinkable, though rather bland.

Arcadia porter Rico 3.8
Heavy coconut, almost sunscreen in your mouth. It?s exactly as stated. High coconut, thick and some bitter ends. Thick mouth and full. Tap

Arcadia porter Rico 3.2
Nice coconut contribution to both aroma and taste. Roast is muted. Dark brown color.
Wednesday, January 06, 2016

Arcadia Nut Brown Ale 2.7
The rare brown that really didnít work for me. Taste isnít bad but the aroma as weak and the finish is quite thin.

Arcadia porter Rico 4.2
12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 11/23/2015. Pours lightly hazy very dark brown color with a 2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Great appearance. Aromas of big coconut, milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toast, dark bread, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of coconut and dark/roasted malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big coconut, milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toast, dark bread, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Light herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of coconut, milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toast, dark bread, and herbal/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of coconut and dark/roasted malt flavors; with a nice bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky, and slightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is awesome. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome coconut porter style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of coconut and dark/roasted malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A highly enjoyable offering.

Sunday, January 03, 2016

Arcadia porter Rico 3.2
Pour form a 12oz bottle, six pack from the local Walgreens. Inky dark brew with tan head. Understated aroma of toasted grain with slight coconut overtones. Taste is lightly toasted grain with mild some coconut notes, especially in the finish. Modestly sweet throughout the swallow. Subtle is OK here as the coconut tastes natural and not like some weird artificial flavor.
Tuesday, December 29, 2015

Arcadia Nut Brown Ale 2.5
Draft at Rattle n Hum West with Brendan. Pours a deep wine red body with thin white lacing. Nose is old wet dog and grains. Mouthfeel is sweet sugar, caramel, malt, prickly hop and raisin bread. Not a big fan of this offering.

Saturday, December 26, 2015

Arcadia Michigasm 3.1
Draft to taster at the Kalamazoo brewpub. Looks solid; not like an amber though. A transparent fuller golden orange with eggshell head that steadily dissipates into bubbly lacing. Smells malty with notes of biscuit and mild floral hops alongside a hint of maple syrup. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied. Not bad, but sweeter than I prefer.

Arcadia porter Rico 2.8
355ml bottle. Seems pretty fresh. Ruby brown pour with a foamy tan head that is large and sticks forever revealing some nice lacing. The aroma is huge on this one a blast of too much coconut and some sweetness and vanilla. Thereís some cocoa in there too. Coconut tones down if you let it breathe a bit. Some bread and wax/sunscreen. Flavor is also quite coconutty. There is some raisin and cocoa in there too.not much in the way of hops. Very much just a coconut flavored beer. I like coconut but this stuff is waaay potent. Almost sunscreen like.
