Sandaya Kihachiro Black Beer
On tap at BeerFes Osaka 2019. Chocolate and something resembling alcohol fumes. Mild translucent brown. Flavors of overripe dark fruit. Thin-medium body. Not an impressive schwarz

Sandaya Kihachiro Smoke
On tap at BeerFes Osaka 2019. Minimal smoke, more like burnt paper ash. Clear copper color. Faint smoke flavor, mild maltiness, light stone fruit, and a slightly metallic finish. Thin-medium body. More smoke in flavor than in nose. Not bad.

Sandaya Kihachiro Pilsener Beer
On tap at BeerFes Osaka 2019. Grainy and mild grassy nose, Medium gold color, with a creamy white head. Fresh, clean pale malt, light grass, and a bit fruity from mid palate. Thin, creamy, and actually a bit heavy. Okay, overall.... and a surprise it is, too.

Sandaya Kihachiro Pilsener Beer
Draft at Beer Fes 2018. Bright gold pour with nice foam. Aroma of rice, corn, sweet malt. Flavour of sweet biscuit malt, adjuncts, a touch buttery. Decent mouthfeel, with a light spicy finish. Ok, but leaning into adjunct territory a bit.

Sandaya Kihachiro Black Beer
550 yen for 400ml from the Sandaya take out window in Kobe’s Harborland which much cheaper than the beer at the nearby Oktoberfest. A colack black pour with a big tan head. It has a soft chewy cocoa aroma with a meaty roastiness to it. Thin bodied the beer has a savory dark chocolate taste with solid roasted notes. The finish is almost smokey, overall pretty good and it is great to grab a beer and enjoy a view of Kobe’s harbor.

Sandaya Kihachiro Pilsener Beer
On tap at Kobe Harborland steak house, 550 yen to go glass. It pours a rich deep gold with a thick foamy off-white head. The aroma has a slight yeasty fruitiness I don’t typically associate with a pilsner. The mouthfeel is smooth & full while the taste is pretty good: earthy, malty nutty/biscuit notes with a crisp clean bitter finish. A tasty beer. --update, had another take out glass today(Nov. 2015) and it is a crisp Pilsner with an aromatic floral hop bouquet, easy drinking and kicked this up by 0.2.

Coffee nose, two finger head. Slightly sweet... This is a stout. Nothing complex, just dark roasted malt and bitter.

Sandaya Kihachiro Pilsener Beer
Draught at the Harbor Land Sandaya Restaurant in Kobe. Dark golden, almost amber color, with a thick, fine head. Rich malty nose, with biscuits and bread, and nice grassy hops. Sweet, rich malt flavor, citrus and grassy hop, and a touch of caramel. Bread and cereals galore! Soft, citrus and pine bitterness in the finish. Smooth, soft mouth; rich yet light, but with a rather prickly finish. Great.

Sandaya Kihachiro Black Beer
Draught at the Kobe Harbor Land Restaurant. Deep, dark, shiny black with a fine tan head. Rich, sweet malt aroma: chocolate, milk, a touch of cafe au lait, bread, cereals. Sweetish yet quite complex malt flavor with lots of chocolate and coffee, and a slight sour tang that’s not unpleasant. Very creamy, with a nice roasty bitter finish. Smooth, medium weight, clean. It’s very well done, though a tad too sweet and too fizzy.
