2.1 New Quay Honey Beer 500ml bottle picked up in Wales and drunk on 30/01/2010. Fairly meh, with some cheap honey on the nose and a sweet flavour. Not awful, but not worth having again. Friday, July 10, 2020

2.1 New Quay Honey Beer Found this beer alive and well in a deli near New Quay. Pours golden with a white head. Has quite lagery looks and is has quite a lager taste too. Surprisingly sparkling. Very little honey in evidence. Just a bit of a bland golden ale really. Not really bad, just boring. Tuesday, March 18, 2014

Tastes of moss and general countryside type stuff. It’s like something that would come out of a small river. Not fun. Saturday, October 16, 2010

0.9 Ceredigion Gwrach Du (Black Witch) 31st July 2010. ChrisOs Pre GBBF - ’Raise The Roof’ tasting. Clear dark brown beer with a little tan head. All downhill from there - sourish nose. Dusty watery malt accompanied by some weird and horrible tastes (I think Mes said ’moss’ and that fits). Finishes dry. Horrible! Sunday, August 15, 2010

3.2 Ceredigion Barcud Coch (Red Kite) Comparative blind tasting of six British bottled bitters on 14 October 2005. Ceredigion Barcud Coch 500ml bottle (bottle conditioned) from Orchard Hive & Vine. Another Red Kite beer. Deepish copper colour. Retains some head. Very little aroma, maybe a little grassy hop but very difficult to grasp. Citric and fairly bitter with a dry malt backbone. Lingering aftertaste with citric build. Overall - Clean, crisp and thirst quenching. The lack of aroma lets it down. (5/4/7/4/12) Black Isle Organic Red Kite 500ml bottle (filtered but unpasteurised?) from Booths, Clitheroe. Copper colour. No head, just a thin collar of bubbles. Not much condition. The only one of the bunch that had a really distinctive aroma - sweet hops, resiny and flowery. Fruity and citric (orange/lime) on the palate, but a bit lacking in bitterness. Short finish. Overall- More aroma than the rest but could do with a bit more grip on the palate. (7/3/6/3/12) Highgate Englands Glory 500ml bottle (pasteurised) from Booths, Clitheroe. Deep amber colour. Fair sized, lasting, fluffy head. Slightly hazy (?). Some prickle on the tongue. Not much aroma - some bready malt with sweaty edges. Fruity flavour with lemony touches. Slightly sweet. Not very bitter. Overall - Easy drinking with a restrained bittersweet feel. (5/3/6/3/11) Cwmbran Crow Valley Bitter 500ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Big, fluffy beige head that lasts. Deep amber colour. Virtually devoid of aroma. Very dry and quite bitter. Some citrus. Not much depth to the flavour. Finish falls away into a thin astringency. Slightly thin mouthfeel. Overall - a rather nondescript traditional bitter. (5/4/6/2/10) Wychwood Englands Ale 500ml bottle from Sainsburys. Hazy (?). No head, just a fine rim of bubbles. Some condition on the tongue. Coppery colour. Not a lot of aroma - slight hints of smoky malt. Quite dry on the palate with some citric notes and moderate bitterness. Manages to be soft and sharp (but not unpleasantly so) at the same time on the finish. Overall - an easy drinking basic bitter with no outstanding features. (6/3/6/4/12) Thwaites Thoroughbred 500ml bottle (pasteurised) from Wragges, Shaw. Pale amber colour (lightest of the six). No head to speak of. Restrained aroma. Slightly malty with touches of caramel and earthy hop. Cardboardy notes develop as it warms up. Assertive bitterness on the palate with some lemon accents. Falls away a bit on the finish. Overall - Clean and easy drinking but nothing really grabs the attention.(5/3/6/3/11) Saturday, November 19, 2005

3.5 Ceredigion Merddin (Merlin) Bottle conditioned, 500ml. Ruby red amber beer with lasting head. Smooth and silky bitter, easy drinking with plenty of warm malts and fruity flavours. 3.7 Ceredigion Yr Hen Darw Du (Old Black Bull) Beer #27 at Spiesy’s. A pretty decent stout from Wales. The name is welsh for The Old Black Bull. Poured with a big frothy head and an almost black, opaque colour. Coffee and hints of chocolate in the aroma. Dry roasted malt and restrained coffee flavours, with some dark berry fruit. Long, quite bitter, finish. Nicely balanced. A very good effort. 500ml bottle (bottle conditioned) from orchard-hive-and-vine.co.uk. BBE 30 July 2005. Sunday, July 4, 2004

3 Ceredigion Draig Aur (Gold Dragon) Pale orange colour. Lasting white head. Slightly yeasty aroma but some zesty bitter orange as well. Oranges and lemons in the flavour too. Rather sharp finish. Clean, crisp and refreshing, but nothing much else going on. Mine seems to have been rather fresher than some other tasters’, judging by earlier comments. Possibly a bit variable? Not bad. Nice label. 500ml bottle (bottle conditioned). Monday, May 17, 2004
