Lagunitas Brewing Company (Heineken) Reviews

Lagunitas The Hairy Eyeball Ale 3.9
Bomber from Bradleys. Deep, rusty ruby with little head. Sweet toffee with roasty malts and dark fruits. Sweet malty flavour with a ton of booze. Better as it warmed.

Lagunitas Undercover Investigation Shut-Down Ale 4
Poured from the bottle of a six pack, clear copper with white head, this is strong, bitter, hoppy boozy, and malty sweet beer. The high alcohol is my favorite thing about it.

Lagunitas GravensTime 3.9
Draft at the brewery with the wife and in-laws.

Overall: Nicely balanced sipper that tastes like a cider/dry-hopped berliner hybrid.

Cloudy bright gold pour with thin white head. Plenty of tart apple juice balanced with passionfruit, spruce, lemon, and wheat. Crisp, light, and tangy. The hop treatment makes for a great balancing act: only consciously noticeable if you look for it, but it’s doing a great job the whole time.

Lagunitas ScareCity #3: High West-ified Imperial Coffee Stout 3.6
Draft at Lagunita’s with the wife and in-laws.

Overall: Good representation of a bourbon barrel coffee stout, both the good and the bad.

Oily black pour with minimal head. Nose has strong bourbon notes, earthy coffee, and bitter dark chocolate. Flavor is heavy on the bourbon and oak spice with earthy coffee and chocolate as supporting cast members. The coffee tastes nice and fresh but is greatly masked by the barrel treatment. Very good, but I would have liked to have tasted more of the stout.

Lagunitas One Hitter Series: Bitter Oats 3.8

Lagunitas One Hitter Series: Bitter Oats 3
Draught at Armsby, 1/30/16.
Rocky, off-white head shows moderate to strong retention atop a copper-golden body that is clear.
Hugely spicy hops are joined by dry citrus (lemonpeel, orange rind), light pine and earthier, dank hop notes. Alcoholic, of course, since it’s Lagunitas, with some sourness/toasted character from the malts but otherwise fairly sniffable.
Sweet (too much so), lightly syrupy, though with a bracing bitterness that more than balances. Boozy, resinous, spicy and such on the finish with no finesse, of course. More like a barleywine than anything and just another Lagunitas beer that tastes more or less like every other lagunitas beer. No character, just lots of hops, malt and alcohol. Are Stone and Lagunitas the same brewery???! Could be.

Lagunitas Censored (Kronik) 3.6
July 4th, 2012 - Happy 4th of July! Well, belatedly. This is a year and a half old review, but better late than never, right? Lagunitas’ rich copper ale is a rich, shaggy, late red ale, with tons of sweet apple skin scenes and a nice chalkiness, The flavor is equally rich and fruity with light strawberry and mango. The flavor is malty in depth and breadth, with much of the husk and sweetness of a good loaf of friend, and with a yeastiness I am beginning to recognize across Lagunitas’ beers. It fills the mouth and palate, and stands by itself, independent and stalwart. This is an ale that demands isolation, and focus, with its richness and palate domination.
