Big Bay Angry Molly
22 ounce bottle as shown .. . the brown is liquid, with a power lacing ring .. . burnt leaves, cereal, bark, lots of roast .. . mouth is solid, softer than average carbonation, easy to medium finish .. pretty good, a tad flaky on the end .. . . okay, I’m a hippie, and I’m naked because I smoked all my clothes.

Big Bay Fifth Anniversary Deep Dubbel
Bomber. Poured rich mahogany with a nice cap of tight-bubbled khaki head. The aroma picked up toasted biscuity malts and raisins topped by semi-sour cherries and peppery alcohol. The flavor found tart cherries/vinous notes plus spicy alcohol on the tip of the tongue.. maple really came through and led the middle.. joined by some biscuity malt and some hay.. finished dry, spicy, and a bit scratchy. Creamy on the front of the palate, but the transitions fell off after that.. a bit sharp at times.. OK overall feel.

Big Bay Fifth Anniversary Deep Dubbel
650ml bottle. Hazed brown/dark brown pour. Aroma is strawberry banana nut yogurt, dms, maple, butterscotch, dark fruit, leather, grapes, wine, mead, vanilla, mild acetone. Complex but filled with holes. Flavor is autolyzed yeast, tart, lemon, more marmite, savory breadcrust, spice. This is a fucked up beer.

Malt Shoppe 1st Anniversary Ale
Bomber. Poured cloudy, deep, reddish-brown with a nice smoky beige head. The aroma picked up darker fruits, maple syrup, and sweet molasses with spicy accents.. too many heavy sugars fought for attention. The flavor found sweet caramel, cocoa, vanilla, and dark fruits at the core, with quite a bit of maple syrup toward the back.. peppery and alcohol-y spicage on the edges.. finished with some tanginess and belly warmth. Heavier-bodied with a creamy middle.. just a bit too heavy-handed with the sugars.. this was alright, but a bit rough around the edges and needed a little more subtlety.

650ml bottle. Old rate. Golden color, super sweet for even a maibock, gets into delicator territory without being subtle or complex also seems just off in general.

Big Bay Angry Molly
Bomber from the Malt Shoppe. Cellar aged 4 months. Black pour with cream colored head. Aroma has roast and caramel, not heavy of either. More espresso shows through down through the glass. Taste is of sweet caramel, some espresso, some chocolate. Medium to full bodied, with little alcohol. Finishes more sweet than bitter but somewhat in that blend, without being distinctive. This one does not have much to distinguish it; it is muddled, without having anything to show . 13.2

Big Bay Fun As Helles
Bomber. Poured fiery reddish-orange with a short off-white head. The aroma picked up sweet fruity malts with kisses of honey and molasses.. some raw alcohol warmth on the back of the nose. The flavor found similar malts plus a lot of caramel at the core.. more than enough rough peppery alcohol around.. sweet and boozy on the long finish. Heavier-bodied with creamy carbonation on the palate.. too sharp in a bunch of spots, and the transitions were just OK.

Aroma was malty with subtle citrus and earthiness. Color was much deeper than expected towards an orange hue. Taste had a depth of malt complexity that was pleasantly surprising with- sweet malt and subtly caramel nuttiness balanced with a nice bitterness and citrus on the back end. Mouthfeel and a great texture too it and stayed on the tongue well and appropriate. I’d buy again.

This brew pours a clear orange-amber color with a medium off-white head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel, malt and slight hops. Light to medium body with flavors of caramel malt, mild hops and off fruit. The finish is sweet with a short malty aftertaste. Barely average overall.

Big Bay Angry Molly
Bomber. Poured near black with a toasted beige head that fizzled out fairly quickly. The aroma picked up burnt black malts and ashy notes, with accents of licorice and vanilla.. coffee as it warmed up. The flavor opened with burnt licorice and black malt, with charred toast following.. coffee and ashy notes plus peppery alcohol on the finish. Medium-plus bodied and very bitter on the palate.. sharp roast and strong alcohol.. this wasn’t pleasant to drink.

Bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a clear dark orange with a half finger of quickly dissipating head. Aroma is citrus and pine. Sickly sweet and surprisingly boozy. Taste is medium bitter, follows aroma. Sweet yet pretty weak. Meh, not my style here or I got a bad bottle.

Roasted and chocolate malt aromas are prevalent with a subtle spicy floral hop note coming out as the beer warms. Deep and viscous look and poured with a choco/cream foam. The choco, roasted and coffee notes play well together, and is balanced with good hop and malt bitterness. There are subtle caramel and dried fruit notes for more complexity. Great mouth feel. Buying two more and cellaring one. It should evolve nicely.

Not much of an IPA here. It looks okay, golden bodied with a modest white head but loads of lace. The aroma is grainy with a light touch of lemon and zest. That describes the flavor, too, except that there’s a soft lemon rind bitterness. It finishes pretty dry with a quiet bitterness. As an APA, I might have rated it higher.

Big Bay Summer Tide Wheat Ale
This pours a hazy, yellow color with a slight head. The aroma is weak with wheat and lemon citrus notes. The taste is fair with wheat and citrus notes. Since it’s brewed at Steven’s Point brewery (according to the bottle), this is high average brew but nothing innovative as it’s basically another take on Summer Shandy with a thicker texture. The finish is clean with a lingering citrus taste.

Big Bay Long Weekend IPA
Pours a cloudy amber with a medium off white head. The aroma is malty and more reserved. It is a little bit nutty, bready, and I honestly can say I find little else. The taste is still dominated by malty impressions, although it is expanded. There is bread, lemon, apple, some pine, and very mild grapefruit. A short aftertaste is lemon. Medium in body, thicker in texture, and there is some soft carbonation. This one really doesn’t do it for me. Dull.

Big Bay Long Weekend IPA
Pours a medium golden orange with mediocre head and lacing. Aroma is pale malts and soapy hops. Mild overall. Somewhat sessionable, with a fruity apple malt that gets a little too sticky and heavy as it lingers, especially for the style. Nothing overtly offensive about it. Safe, muted, mass appeal... meh.

Bottle @ home. Secret Krampus gift from Andy. Orange pour with a soapy white head. Aromas of stale hops, orange, apple, and grass. Really sugary and jammy. Not a good sign... Taste is extremely astringent and bitter, particularly on the finish. Lots of metal, grass, and chalk. Slight orange, a bunch of sugar up front, peach jam, and aspirin. Scroll past.

Bottle @ home, thanks to Andy and Secret Krampus. Dark amber pour with a small khaki head. Aromas of water and malt. Slight bread and caramel. Pretty much no hop character. Bland, bland, bland. At least no major flaws. This is just water with a bit of caramel and bread flavor to it. Mild sweetness, no bitterness or hop character, and nothing enjoyable at all. At least it’s not offensive, I guess.

This pours a clear, dark amber color with a slight head. The aroma is slightly malty with some spices. The taste is dry and malty that finish is a little chalky. There is a bit of spice but it’s not quite as strong as I would expect from an Oktoberfest style brew. This is ok at best and could definitely use some work.

Big Bay Long Weekend IPA
This does better as an APA than an IPA. It is just not quite big or hoppy enough to be called an IPA. This said, it does not matter all that much because it really doesn’t do all that well as an APA anyway. It’s a nice orange color, a bit cloudy w/ a head that leaves behind lots of lace. This is mostly juicy, citric hops w/ a pretty substantial malt backbone. It is sort of nutty and oxidized in a way that doesn’t necessarily seem intentional but also isn’t foul or spoiled seeming. It is just very non-typical for the style and, while it does work reasonably well, I think this beer would be better of w/ a cleaner malt profile. All in all, I find this relatively drinkable and refreshing but I think if I wanted to down more than a couple of these over my long weekend, I’d get sick of it really fast.

Big Bay Boatilla Amber Ale
This beer pours a cloudy orange w/ a scant white head. It has a very mild nose that is mostly nutty malt character. It has mild carbonation and is unfortunately a bit watery as well. Its short finish is just a touch of earthy bitterness. There’s nothing really outright wrong w/ this beer--no strong off-flavors or anything--but it is remarkably bland.
