Neath Abbey Ale
Dec 2017 - 500ml bottle at home in Wales on Boxing Day. As 'Neath Abbey Ale', 4.2%. Pours a dark amber, translucent, very lightly sparkling, small off-white head leaves light lacing. Aroma is teacake, gummy sweets, faint tangerine and pineapple. Body is smooth with soft carbonation. Taste again has some pineapple notes, little pine, gummy sweets, background sugary rounded malts - some salted rusk. Pretty good actually. Well balanced, drinkable, modern. The best Neath beer I've had by a margin. [Admin note - 'Neath Abbey' relates to the place, not the beer style, which should be changed] (6-4-7-4-14=3.5)

Neath Welsh Amber
Dec 2017 - 500ml bottle at home in Blaendulais as 'Neath Welsh Amber', 4.5%, BB Feb 2019. Dark amber orange, translucent, lightly sparkling, small foamy off-white head. Aroma is airy, biscuity, crackers, faint citrus. Body is smooth and rounded with soft to low carbonation. Taste is sugary, biscuity, light rusk, watery, touch buttery, sawdust in the finish. Fine stuff if a little watery and plain. Easy to drink. (4-4-5-4-12=2.9)

Neath Dewi Sant
Cask HP at Swansea Beer Festival 2016, Brangwyn Hall. As ’Neath Dewi Sant’, 4.8%. Golden yellow, translucent, still with a foamy white head. Aroma is crumpet, sugary. Body is smooth with low carbonation. Taste is watery malt, white sugar, thin honey. Barman said it tastes like lighter fluid but for me it’s just watery malt. I actually thought it was OK in a simple grainy way.

Neath Dewi Sant
Cask at the Cambridge Blue, Cambridge. Mid-gold with a hint of orange. Smells of wheat and sweat, with an agreeable floral backdrop. Bittersweet taste the holds its own up to the bitter and slightly salty/umami (think seawater) finish. An enjoyable beer but - hmmm. A bit ’wrong’ around the edges.

Bottle. Very small head, fades to nothing. Dark brown colour, hint of amber, hazy. Weak orange and very light spice aroma. Nicely balanced sweet / bitter taste. Very little carbonation. Bitter aftertaste, but finishes abruptly. Refreshing, but a bit bland.

Bottle. Gold colour, hazy. Very light carbonation. Thin white head even whilst pouring, but what little head does remain. Ripe fruit aroma, definitely peaches as the review below mentions. Bitter, very light sweetness. Thin texture. Very long and bitter finish. A decent beer.

Neath Darkwater
Bottle in T-Bone’s Cimla. I assumed that this beer would already be on Ratebeer and so I’m afraid that the ABV may be slightly off but it’s definitely around 6.2-6.5%. Pours black with absolutely no head at all. Smell - toned down, some smoke coming through. Body - medium to light, smooth rather than foamy, low carbonation. Taste is ashy, slight mint, toffee, all toned down. The bottle vaguely says that it is made with a ’single hop variety’. Tasted a bit like sorachi ace to me, and I’d be interested to know what they used. Not bad overall.

Bottled. Hazy deep golden, rich head. Citric nose. Sweet malt builds a relatively slim body. The cops come out more resiny than aromatic, there are notes of sulphur. Severely bitter finish. A bit sharp and aggressive.

Neath Deliverance
Cask (handpump) at the Spotted Dog, Brighton, Welsh beer festival on 1 March 2012. Amber colour. Slight haze. Fairly straightforward best bitter. Quite fruity, with a sprinkling of herbal hop. Not bad, in a middle of the road sort of way, but nothing really grabbed the attention. Solid enough drinking.

Cask@GWBCF2011. Yellowish golden colour with a small white head. Aroma is wood, quite sweet frutiy and floral notes along with some bready and caramel malty. Flavour is bready malts, biscuits as well as some crisp maltyness mixed with grassy, floral and mildly fruity hops. Also has some slight yeasty notes in it, but still is refreshing and quite nice session beer, even though being a bit high in the ABV.

Neath Abbey Ale
(bottle conditioned) headless murky dark swampy brown ....they go on about 3 types of malts , but i mostly got a chocolaty roast character ; and some dark tart fruit . Got some things going for it , not sure i’d list this a ’belgian ale’ as whoever entered this has.

(bottle conditioned). Dark malts jumped out at me in 3D in the nose...tart cherries ,i reckon too. beige head was fast to die above a glass of blackness -with pieces of sediment swimming around. These flavours show rich black malts , with chocolaty roast .hop resiny bitterness ..some ashy chalk ..oil . And a cutting subtle sour edge. This stout is pretty flavourful and compact.

On gravity at the Great Welsh Beer & Cider Festival 10/06/10. This normally bottle beer was produced in cask form for the festival. It was a fairly standard amber bitter, with a touch of orange hop and cereal malts, before a moderately bitter finish. Ok.
