Blonde dorée avce une mousse blanche peu persitente. Pas grand chose à en dire : sucrée et maltée, c’est une ale belge tout à fait standard, qui, sans être mauvaise, ne casse pas trois pattes à un canard ...

Scheldebrouwerij Lamme Goedzak
Bottle from Dranken Verheyen in Poppel. The beer is yellow to golden colored and has a nice and large white head, with average carbonation. The aroma is malty and fruity, with tones of citrus, apples, caramel and bitterness of yeast and spices. The taste is light sweet with malts, fruits and caramel, and changes into robust hoppiness, with some notes of spices, flowers and yeast. The finish is light dry, refreshing and bitter.

Een lekkere tripelachtige en IPA-achtige van de Scheldebrouwerij. Veel fruitige en bloesemige hopsmaken in dit bier. Ook een fruitig zoetje. Fris en krachtig aroma.

De Lelie Paus
The tripel in this Lelie series, bottle from a Prik & Tik in Zele. Like the Pater, this one intends to recreate an old Belgian tripel from a bygone era - a blast from the past, so to speak. Slow gusher but manageable. Medium thick, moussy, off-white head slowly dissolving from the middle, peach blonde colour with golden hue, lightly hazy, with a suspension of dead yeast and proteins throughout, lending it an almost ’bouillon’-like appearance. Rather weak aroma of old apple, wet and old cardboard (even very old books), soft paprika, onsetting oxidation, peach, bread crust, dry jute cloth, fried egg, diluted yellow tea, dried banana, young ’jenever’, dry earth, hay, old cheese, dried apricot, ripe gooseberry, dried ginger, barbecued chicken, very old white pepper. Fruity onset, hints of peach, banana and unripe pear, only very subduedly sweetish and softly sourish with a soft bittering edge from the start, spritzy carbo with further souring and minerally effects, vaguely bready and somewhat grainy malt middle, offering not much of a background for the rest and suffering a bit from the sharp carbonation while a certain fruitiness continues and yeasty spice notes (cloves, pepper, dried ginger) appear towards the end; finishes dryish but much in the same way as it began, i.e. lacking sweetness and rotundity, yet gaining a hayish and softly spicy hop bitterishness - which offers some balance against the malt and fruit character. Ends in wryness of ’jenever’-like alcohol adding further drought but not in a very enjoyable way; luckily some yeasty ’breadiness’ and powderiness soften this effect, especially after adding the yeast sediment. Dusty, messy, almost coming across as amateuristic: this is disappointing, even if the bottle is probably too old already (despite the label saying best before December 2016) or has been kept in anything but favorable circumstances. The proteins yield an unpleasant fried chicken-like aroma, there is onsetting but undeniable oxidation which does not make things any better, and the suspension of dead things does not make it look attractive, but still I can imagine this being quite alright (yet doubtlessly a bit boring) when young, though it would certainly have been way too alcoholic back then as well. The intentions are good, but this to me is not very pleasant and not suitable for ageing even before it hits its own BBD. Somewhat disappointed, actually.

Pours bit darker blonde, small white head. Smell is very fruity yeast , and a bit malty underneath. Taste is very yeasty as well, tons of fruityness . Mild bitterness. Very intense in its aspect, but it’s just not my favourite aspect.

Sample. Red/brown with medium head. Dough, caramel, toffee, brown cake with burned bottom with strong dried raisin and delicate dried plums. Medium strong carbonation with oily texture. Quite watery overall. Taste is medium sweet, lots of fruits and spices. Bitterness is delicate but balance well the sweet fruits. A bit of coca-cola there too. OK.

Aroma:
Slight/medium aroma of malts, caramel, yeast, dried fruits, liquorice and chocolate.

Appearance:
Turbid/opaque ruby/brown beer with heavy yeast and with a slight/medium beige/brown head.

Taste/Palate:
Medium sweet with malts, caramel, yeast, dried fruit, liquorice and chocolate.

Overall:
This beer is rather intense, but lacks complexity and balance. It is really odd to be fair. This beer is watery, sweet and just plain weird.

Bottle at home. Hazy deep golden with white head. Sweet malts, grains, herbs, lemon, coriander, cloves, overripe banana, sugar, chalkiness, Belgian yeast, faint dust and gumball coating sweetness that later disappears. Medium sweet, light bitter, faint saltiness. Medium body, average carbonation. Surprisingly I’m enjoying this more than expected. Used to drink the Schelde beers regularly at De Paas before I was on RB, never rated.

The beer has a nice looks. The color of the beer is a beautiful ruby red. It has a beautiful glow. The beer is quite clear. There are some flakes of sediment floating in the beer though. In top of the beer a nice layer of foam is formed. The color of the foam is almond and it’s quite soft. Nice. The smell is nice. There are some touches of licorice, caramel, some chocolate. It’s a typical bock smell. Not very strong though. The taste is lovely. It’s typical for a bokbier. Almonds, caramel, some licorice and some hop tones. The taste is also a little milder than some other bokbieren. But it is nice.

Bottle from World Beer Market (Sake no Taniguchi). Stone fruity nose, estery and yeasty, some apricot and peach, rich malt, sweet with a little spiciness. Very cloudy apple juice color, thin head, and fine-bead lace. Yeasty and malty initial flavor, some honey, light spice (coriander?), and peppery bittering. Medium-heavy body and quite warming. Pours hazy orange/yellow with a big white head. The aroma contains grass, citrus, yeast, wheat, hay and grain. It tastes medium bitter with a light sweet finish. Something metallic and soapy to it, not very agreeable. Light body, soft carbonation, dry finish. Perhaps, indeed, better as an accompaniment to a dish, not as a tasting beer.
