Liberty Yakima Scarlet 4.2
From bottle in Belgian ale glass. Poured with frothy head, scarlet is an accurate moniker. The rich hops and malts feature from the nose through to the palate. A clean bitter finish to cut through the malty backbone. A very nice brew.

Liberty / Hallertau Matakana Imperial Oyster Stout 3.8
Very nice bit of beer this one, nice aroma on opening the bottle, pour looks great, if a bit oily, but it sits well, Lovely sweetness carries that top bitterness and they both work well. I didnít get much if anything by way of brine or shellfish, but then thatís not my area of expertise, if anything is or isnít. I would have this again though itís really pleasing

Liberty The Rusty Sheriff vs The Blank Stare 4
Odd coffee brown well hopped beer. Much better than I would imagine. A hint of smoke. A more finessed version of the Schopsh I had from Australia.

Fark this is great. Really sav blanc like lots of wild fruity berries effervesant. Easily the beer of my trip to newji

Liberty The Rusty Sheriff vs The Blank Stare 3.6
Something to share with your brother who only drinks Speights. Youíll enjoy the resinous hop aroma and heíll find comfort in the brown beer taste. But ultimately youíll revert to your usual choice of beer, but as a lover of hops, you know youíre correct

Liberty Knife Party IPA 3.4
I am wondering if the hops have changed on this beer as it is a lot more restrained than previous bottles that I have imbibed (but never gotten around to rating).

Liberty The Rusty Sheriff vs The Blank Stare 3.5
Delicious aroma thick sweet and herbal, spearmint, conifer, the smell of pumpkin juice, or the slimy flesh around the pumpkin seeds. Front and middle are quite juicy hops and a tease of a mighty fine malt before itís all blown asunder by the huge spicy, minty/junipery alcoholic twang at the back. Not bad, pretty good even; but tone down the back end a tad and this would be gooder.

Liberty Yakima Monster 2.8
Bitter hoppy taste is the dominant flavour of the day. Slight fruity taste grapefruit though it is pretty overwhelmed by the hops ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Liberty The Rusty Sheriff vs The Blank Stare 3.8
This is basically a hop bomb brown ale - an imperial masquerading as a brown. Not that I am complaining.

Liberty Rackets 3.5
Alluring tropical aroma in a straw gold pour. Hop forward balance with light body and clean finish. Nothing that really stands out - but no faults either. Other Liberty brews are better - many others.

Liberty Citra Double IPA 3.9
Draft at Brothers Beer. Clear bright golden with a small white head. The aroma is characteristic of citra beers - citric, grapefruit, orange, pine. The flavor is nice with honey sweet malt yielding to a big bitter hop punch. Medium bodied, intense and enamel ripping. Good!

Liberty Halo Pilsner 3.8

Liberty Yakima Scarlet 3.8
500mL bottle from Slowbeer Copper body, bit of haze, beige head is creamy, hangs around. Aroma packs a punch - spicy, dried leafy hop, notes of bitter citrus, papaya, guava with plenty of toasty, dark toffee malts . Full body, sticky, clingy, chewy, smooth carbonation. Palate bursts full of rich toasty caramel malts with punchy hop notes of tropical fruit, citrus & wood spice. Firm bitterness, long smooth finish. Really nice, seems bigger than it is!

Liberty / Brothers Oh Brother Pale Ale 3.8
Bottle from Beer Cellar Online (Feb 2015). Clear amber, 1cm white head, floral/fruity aroma, peaches, mandarin, grapefruit bitterness, slightly sweet finish. Really nice.

Liberty Halo Pilsner 3.7
Bottle from Beer Cellar Online (Feb 2015). Pale golden, fluffy white head, grainy, grassy, toast/biscuit, slight sour grapes, dry bitter finish. Quite good.

Liberty / Hallertau Matakana Imperial Oyster Stout 3.7
Very boozy nose when first opened, but booze fades as it warms. Thick, oily dark soy sauce, sharp burnt notes, roastiness, some leather and a touch of horse sweat smoothed by the oily brininess. A good one to sip beside a warm heat pump on a miserable, wet evening.

Liberty Sauvignon Bomb 5
Big fan of the Yakima Monster but tried this for the first time tonight. ..on par in terms of flavour and higher in terms of jammy goodness

Liberty Yakima Monster 4.3
500 ml bottle. Pours a mostly clear orange-amber with a tight and lasting white head. Aromas of pineapple, peach, honey, pine and lemon zest. Taste is grapefruit, peach, honey biscuits, pepper and lemon. Long finish with a fresh fruity aftertaste. Really enjoyed this.

Liberty M!llers Humulus 4
Really enjoyed this and will be going back for more. Grapefruit, grapefruit, citrus, grapefruit and more grapefruit! Oh also a touch of resinous hops and well placed malt. Intense but balanced, great beer.

Liberty Yakima Scarlet 3.8
This has a well rounded hoppiness, promising a complex taste. Creamy, almost yellow head. Citrus, herb & pine then a crunchy slightly sweet malt body. It went really well with steak.

Liberty Rackets 3.4
I tried this in the middle of a tasting evening and Iím afraid it doesnít stand out, although that is mostly due to the heavy hitting rivals like 4 Horsemen of the Hopocalypse. Typically NZ aroma for an IPA. Very pale and slightly weak taste

Liberty Knife Party IPA 3.9
Pours clear golden with a thin white head. Aroma is grapefruit and pine. Taste is pine and grapefruit with a bitter resin hit. Some caramel and slightly biscuity malts coming through. Got a lot going on but true to style

Liberty Knife Party IPA 3.8
From a bottle. Wow, massive hop punch, pine aroma, big grapefruit flavours, thick oily finish, delicious.

Liberty Rackets 3.5
The aroma upon knocking the scab off the bottle is awesome: sticky dank, sweet tropicals and citrus. But once poured, it is a much tamer and subtler beast. Taste is light mandarin, marmalade, grapefruit, lime. Medium, bitterness, light white pepper and slight cardboard. Palate is thin and watery with prickly carbonation. A good but not great beer, maybe because itís just too damn pale. I canít help but compare this to Brave Extra Pale Ale, which I rated 4/5. Theyíre very similar lightly flavoured relatively low ABV beers, but the Brave beer was unfiltered and I think that may be where the difference between goodness and greatness lies in this type of beer.

Liberty Brewing Summ!t IPA 3.7
From memory, this was an excellent brew that was aptly named. Lovely hop forward balance with a full body and clean sustained finish.

Liberty Citra Double IPA 4.3
500mL bottle BB: jan 2016. As i pour this clear golden brew i can smell the amazing aroma wofting from the glass. The wonderful tropical citrus fruit is very prominent in the flavor also. An incredible beer that is deceptively drinkable at 9%.

Liberty Darkest Days Oatmeal Stout 4.3
Great oatmeal stout once it warmed up. Sumptuous creamy yet bitter head. Soft mouth feel of a good oat stout and a well balanced finish showing additives are no match for a well crafted beer with bitter dark chocolate and hints of coffee ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Liberty Citra Junior 3.8
500ml bottle, Tonic bar (NZ). Pours cloudy, golden, with a short-lasting small white head. Aroma of grapefruit, citrus, hop. A sweet beer. Medium body, average carbonation. Tastes good. Have a very nice label. Quite like it !

Liberty Darkest Days Oatmeal Stout 3.5
Deep black with small ruby highlights, frothy tan head leaving nice lacing. Aromas of grassy and piney hops, dark chocolate and licorice. The taste has dark chocolate and grassy hops. Light bodied and very smooth. Pretty good.

Liberty Yakima Scarlet 3.9
Brilliant clear scarlet pour, with tight creamy beige head. Huge whack of fresh citrusy and piney hops in the aroma, with the caramel malt hiding in the shadows. The taste is a clear reflection of these aromas and is highly pleasant, but the real star is the body. Big, beautiful full body of an imperial stout, smooth on the tongue and just enough acidic pop to really enhance the lively hop bitterness. Really enjoyable beer with a lot of zing.

Liberty / Brothers Oh Brother Pale Ale 3.9
Oooh the fruit salad aroma - passionfruit & orange and a mellow bitterness. It is a very complex and rewarding aroma. The taste deteriorated slightly by the end of the bottle however, but overall a new go-to

Liberty / Hallertau Matakana Imperial Oyster Stout 4.3
On tap at Alehouse Project, Melbourne. Almost fishy nose. Thick black appearance. Great blend of toasted, burnt notes with hint of saltiness (almost fish sauce-like). Hides alcohol punch very effectively. Nice collab.

Liberty Citra Double IPA 4.1
On tap at Alehouse Project, Melbourne: big citrus nose that really showcases the varietal. Crisp mouthfeel. A possibly sessionable double IPA with good balance. If you love citra, then this is the beer for you.

Liberty Citra Junior 4
A sterling attempt at making a double IPA with less ABV. Built up on the bitterness as I drank, something which I enjoy. It could have used even more though, the drink ability of it was very good. I for one decided that the overpowering citrus flavours were less interesting and more overpowering, but I suspect thatís the effect they were going for. The one thing that let it down for me, was the total lack of palate weight. A double IPA has structure because you canít help but have some weight if the beer is 8% alcohol or above. This beer used the same malt profile, which shows off the Citra hops beautifully, at the overall beers expense. A little more carbonation and a little more special malt may have made this beer unforgettable. But an awesome beer all the same, hops hops hops. Definitely try it if you like hops.

Liberty Knife Party IPA 4.1
Am I the only person to smell rotten eggs? Massive hops, as expected, but the first waff is eggs, confirmed and reconfirmed. After a few minutes and some pizza, the eggs hatched and some serious grass and herbs kicked in and saved the day. Perhaps a dodgy bottle and well worth trying again. OK, tried again on tap and it was exactly as expected. Yeah.

Liberty Sauvignon Bomb 3.9
Bottle from cellarbrations super store hami hill. Pours hazy orange with a creamy head. Carbonation is no mouthfeel is slightly watery. Aroma is grapes, slight mango, sweet honey and bread. Taste is wonderfully balanced. Has quite a bit of hop aggression that is balanced out by some sweet Malts. Taste is resinous, bitter grapefruit, wood and slight caramel. Finish is quite aggressive, dry and bitter. Awesome beer

Liberty Citra Double IPA 3.6
A good, but not great double IPA. I had this at a tasting session (thanks to and it was only in the middle of the bunch, so I was faintly underwhelmed. Strong citrus, floral, resin hops and matching taste, but my resounding memory is that it is overrated

Liberty Citra Junior 3.6
Pours a cloudy golden orange with a fluffy white head. Nose is breakfast fruit juice, ripe mango, peach, orange, passionfruit, a little hay. Flavor is more of that juicy fruitiness, peach, lemon, orange, a little grapefruit pith, slightly resinous, A little caramel there, but itís an accent. This is definitely a product of west coast IPA influences. Finish is reasonably long, lovely slightly fruity, slightly piney, balanced american bitterness, and a slight crackery crispness. Lovely IPA, possibly a little too bitter and ambitious to be truly sessionable, but tasty regardless.

Liberty M!llers Humulus 4
Pours a red tinged gold with a short white head. Big nose of hop pellets. Pine and orange zest. Alcohol. Minerals. Flavours of pine, caramel, orange zest, mint, and alcohol. Strong bitterness, moderated by some sweetness lingers in the finish. Body feels quite full and sticky from both the residual sugar and the hops... mostly the hops.

Alluring citrus aroma in cloudy golden pour. Taste was fuller than the Sculpin I had before it - but otherwise there was very little between them (albeit, in the end, the Sculpin is sublimely good). I didnít detect a hint of ísourí though - so not sure what happened there.

Liberty Sauvignon Bomb 3.9
Alluring tropical aroma in a golden amber pour. Lovely hop forward balance with a fruity twist in the body and a smooth, clean, bitter finish. An excellent local example of the style (APA).

Liberty Citra Junior 3.5
Pours a cloudy amber colour with a white head. Aroma is malt, citrus, fruit and some hops. Taste is light to medium sweet leading to a moderate hop finish. Not as good as his big brother of course but still pretty good.

Liberty Citra Double IPA 3.9
Contradiction to the type of beer it is. Being a double IPA I was expecting it to be pretty full on. But it's more like a session IPA really. Great aroma and fantastic palate. Mild hops. A winner but!

Liberty Citra Junior 4
Pours gold with a large head. Vibrant hoppy aroma of spicy, floral, piny and fruity hops. Similar flavours. Some malt but very light, the focus is on the spicy and floral hops.

Bottle thanks to James! Hand delivered from New Zealand! Bottle poured into glass. Pour is hazy Gold with a small white head. Aroma is bursting with citrus hops and a faint earthy note. Flavor is fresh citrus with a touch of bitterness and some bready malt. Flavor is not as vibrant as Aroma. Still solid.
