1.9 Cavalry Brewing Hatch Plug Ale bullshit English Pale that tastes like a half assed Belgian ale. As an Army veteran i see that as some less than honorable BS. Wednesday, December 4, 2013

1.2 Cavalry Brewing Marauder IPA clearly infected. poured four full glasses of foam. seemed like it may have had a decent hop character to begin with, but there was a lot of funk in the way. Tuesday, August 20, 2013

2.7 Cavalry Brewing Marauder IPA Bottle thanks to John. Pours reddish amber with off white head. Nose and taste of hop resin, old spruce, old maple, cocoa and malt. Lighter bodied. A bit off. Sunday, August 11, 2013

2.7 Cavalry Brewing Marauder IPA Bottle from Roger Wilco. Pours out a darker, slightly hazy amber color with a big white head. Aroma is of light sweet/bitter citrus, lots of bread, caramel, dough. Taste is weird, not much going on in the hop department, caramel, bread crusts, cereal, herbal tea, light bitterness, some metallic notes. Sunday, July 28, 2013

2.9 Cavalry Brewing Big Wally Porter Pours black with a small beige head. I smell a lot of cream and caramel, and a little brown sugar and bread. Very nice flavor! I get a lot of milk chocolate, cream, cereal and sweet malts. It finishes with a subtle burst of hops for balance. This porter is very nice on the taste and nose. Now for the bad news: The head dies early on with no real lacing. The palate is medium carbonation with a watery mouth feel. I smell and taste porter- but, feel budweiser. Not bad- but, not great. 1.6 Cavalry X Limited Edition Lot 03 English Spring Ale Translucent copper with a ruby tinge and a foamy beige head. Medium body with very bubbly carbonation. Aroma: wild yeast infection and lactic acid bacteria sourness, pale malt, and a touch of roasted malt. Taste: green peas (dms?), chocolate malt, dark crystal malt. Sunday, February 10, 2013

1.4 Cavalry Brewing Hatch Plug Ale Translucent copper with a sudsy beige head. Aroma: medium crystal malt, grassy wild yeast character. Taste: grainy nutty pale malt, dry grassy character that results from wild yeast stripping out the long-chain sugars left behind by brewers yeast. Sunday, February 10, 2013

1.6 Cavalry Brewing Dog Soldier Golden Ale Very foamy gusher. Slightly hazy gold with a sudsy beige head. Thin body with high carbonation. Aroma: sweet pale malt, light caramel malt, and wild yeast infection notes (dusty heater, damp basement). Taste: a pleasant pale and caramel malt background is buried in the dust broom and old ski glove notes thrown off by wild yeast. Sunday, February 10, 2013

2.4 Cavalry X Limited Edition Lot 01 English Nut Brown Ale Translucent brown with a really foamy beige head. Medium body with high carbonation. Aroma: sweet chocolatey malt. Taste: yeast infection phenols, some roast malt. Clearly infected but seems like it would be very good. Sunday, February 10, 2013

2.9 Cavalry Brewing Nomad Stout Fairly typical dry stout. Roasted malts, hint of chocolate, etc. A litte light on flavor. Way too much carbonation - this really detracted from the beer for me. Tuesday, January 22, 2013

3.1 Cavalry X Limited Edition Lot 03 English Spring Ale 12 oz. bottle. English pint shows nearly clear amber color with yet again over carbonation. After a slow pour I had to wait at the half way point because of the large frothy mess. Nose is citrus hops with some malt. Taste is very much a EPA. Light effervescent mouthfeel. Slightly bitter, with more of a English hop variety for sure. The brewers description says “a hint of chocolate malt” well, I don’t find that but it is an easy enough to drink brew. 3.1 Cavalry Brewing Nomad Stout 12 oz. bottle. English pint shows a nearly black color with frothy, tan head. Over carbonated like the previous two bottles I’ve had from this brewer. Nose is roasted malt and barley. Flavor is roasted barley, grain and malt, with a light amount of chocolate sweetness. Texture is ashy. Overall no real problems but nothing to go out of your way for. Saturday, November 10, 2012

2.9 Cavalry Brewing Marauder IPA 12 oz. bottle thanks to Waterbury. English pint shows hazy amber color with a thick, off-white head. Carbonation is high on this one as well. Nose is malt and has a herbal tea aroma. Flavor is much the same with a light resin hop. And let me emphasize that it is extremely light bitterness. If you want an IPA more on the sweet side this is ok. Friday, November 9, 2012

2.6 Cavalry Brewing Hatch Plug Ale 12 oz. bottle. English pint shows a pale amber color with a ridiculous amount of carbonation. I had to poor half the bottle wait a minute and slowly pour the rest. Nose has a mild artificial fruit odor. Not bad but not really pleasant either. Taste is pale malts with that strange fruit note. I guess apricot would be the closest flavor I could describe. Light body with an odd herbal aftertaste. I would not try this again. I really like the story about the Hatch Plug, that’s about it. Wednesday, November 7, 2012

2.3 Cavalry Brewing Marauder IPA Brass City Brew Fest 2012. The aroma was skunky, musty. The appearance was amber in color, white head. The flavor was light caramel, skunk, noble hops. Noble hop like bittering. Substandard. Sunday, September 9, 2012

3.2 Cavalry X Limited Edition Lot 03 English Spring Ale Draft @ Delaney’s, New Haven. This is my first beer from Cavalry and not a bad one at all. This beer was nicely balanced and easy to drink, nothing special, but a solid pale ale. Some grass and floral notes from the hops and a little bit of dark fruit from the malts. Beer isn’t bready as all (I hate bready pale ales). I’m interested in trying their other beers. Friday, July 13, 2012

3.2 Cavalry X Limited Edition Lot 01 English Nut Brown Ale 12oz bottle in a shaker. Pours brown/copper with a fluffy, cream-colored head. Aroma of caramel, some light nuts and a hint of roastedness, plus some floral hops. Flavor about the same, with a nice malty finish. Average texture. A decent beer, but something doesn’t blend right. Sunday, January 22, 2012

2.4 Cavalry Brewing Nomad Stout 12oz bottle-pours a too big foamy brown head with black color. Aroma is dark malt-roasty/chocolate. Taste is ashy, metallic, asprin, dark malt. Stopped at 4oz. Thursday, December 15, 2011

2 Cavalry Brewing Hatch Plug Ale The ale pours amber with huge bubbly white head, very carbonated. The aroma is light spicy malts, not much at all in the nose. The flavor is similar, light sweet and even lighter spice for the malt profile, not much flavor though at all. Hops aren’t there very much, wondering if this bottle is older than it should be. 2.7 Cavalry Brewing Marauder IPA 12 oz. bottle. Pours brown with a massive tan head. Despite gentle pouring into a 16 oz. glass this thing spilled over big time. Really difficult to pick up much if any aroma because of the huge head. The flavor is malty with some weak hops bitterness at the finish. The bottle says 35 IBU’s and this beer is nowhere near that. There’s no date on the bottle so there’s no way to tell if this is an age issue or just not a good IPA, or both. As a pale ale, it is ok, as an IPA, a poor representation of the style. 2.8 Cavalry Brewing Marauder IPA 12 oz bottle poured into pint glass, darker than expected even for more of an english style IPA, this is almost maroon, small off white head. Aroma of bready- buscuity malts, no real hope characteristics in the aroma besides some leafy pine. Taste is similar but not the same as aroma, addition of tea, more piney than the aroma would suggest. Very english IPA as opposed to American IPA, but nothing really exciting or unusual here. 2.7 Cavalry Brewing Dog Soldier Golden Ale 12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy gold color with a large linen white head and lots of fat carbonation bubbles rising to the surface. There is really very little aroma to speak of. Perhaps some extremely weak caramel and some equally weak floral hops and that’s about it. The flavor is bready malt and mild caramel. Mild-moderate bitterness at the finish. Abrasive carbonation. Very forgettable. Monday, October 17, 2011

2.9 Cavalry Brewing Hatch Plug Ale 12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy antique gold with no head except for a few scattered bubbles along the edge. There are lots of bubbles clinging to the wall of my glass, so the beer is carbonated. Weak aroma of caramel and just a hint of apricot. The flavor is weak crystal malt and caramel. Lightly sweet. Mild bitterness at the finish and dries out at the back of the throat. Saturday, October 8, 2011
