Berghoeve Zwarte Snorre
(Berghoeve Zwarte Snorre) Bottle 330 ml at home, served into a snifter, ABV 11% A thick pour gives a totally black coloured beer, with a finger of thick dark brown head on top. Very good retention. Nice aroma of chocolate, light alcohol, liquorice, light iodine. Taste has notable alcohol, chocolate, roasted malts, coal, faint peat, iodine. Plenty of whiskey notes too, curious how stronger that whiskey flavour will be on the barrel aged version. Medium thick body, good carbonation, slightly sticky on the palate. Very good.

Berghoeve Kriebels! (2014 -)
Draft sample at Pint Meibockfestival 2016 Amsterdam, The Netherlands. 17.04.2016. Taste with Jelena and Zlotta. Pour it hazy golden color with small white head. Aroma kind of funky, sourish. Taste sweet, grainy, puik, funky all the time, not so good for my opinion.

330ml bottle from trade with either RW80 or Monster Magnet. Thanks! Pours dark with tin ring of tan head. Aroma is a big whisky presence, wood, caramel malt. Taste is slick with warming sweet whisky, caramel malt, smoke, charred wood.. smooth, rich and balanced. Tasty stuff.

Berghoeve Zwarte Snorre Barrel Aged Bruichladdich Whisky
Bottle [thanks bierkoning!] @ home. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized shortly lasting brown to dark brown head. Aroma is malts, whiskey, wood, a slight hint of smoke in the distance. Lovely and we’ll balanced. Taste malts, whiskey, a slight liquor sweetness, again light smoke, light band-aid and iodine and a little more bitter in the finish than I had expected. Nice medium to full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Lovely.

Berghoeve Zwarte Snorre Barrel Aged Imperial Whisky
Bottle [thanks bierkoning!] @ home. Opaque pitch black color, only the slightest dark brown head that disappears instantly. Aroma is malts, nice subtle whiskey aromas. Taste malts, whiskey boozyness coming through, roast, wood, liquor and a firm, somewhat sharp bitterness. Medium body, moderately oily texture, soft carbonation. Not bad at all, but I’d like it to be less boozy and a little less sharp bitter. Still a nice beer though. - Edit: After warming up a while it becomes softer, less sharp and quite a bit more mild sort of speak. Suits the beer better. Up from 3.7 to 3.9.

Motor oil with a dark brown head. Lots of licorice, dark roast too. Fairly sweet, warming alcohol, burned taste. I like it, quite different than most imperial stouts who tent to be more roasted or coffee like. It?s not the creamy or richest stout though. I mean, it?s 11%. I like it though, unique beer, flavourful and well brewed. (33cl bottle from Saveur Bière)

Sampled from tap at Meibockfestival Amsterdam 2016 at 7.5% abv. Clear, golden amber with a white head. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity aroma of honey, strawberry jam and some peach. Sweet, malty, slightly fruity taste of caramel, honey, peach and strawberry jam, followed by a short, slightly bitter finish. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Okay.

Bottle at home. It pours hazy orange with a huge fluffy off white head. I don’t know what the Dutch Brewers do with the yeast but almost any pale ales have this huge head. The aroma is fruity hoppy with spicy floral notes. Citrus, sweet fruit, light spice and lighter yeasty notes. Tasty.

0,33l bottle at home courtesy of Euro Local Swap thanks to bierkoning. BB 06/2017. black color, small coffee-colored head. smells alcoholic, light grapes, red fruits, light berries, spices, glueish, light marzipan. decent smell, hints of green apples. full body, soft carbontion, slick mouthfeel. tastes alcoholic, marzipan, light grapes and berry notes, spices, light barrel notes. finishes rather alcoholic with some grapes, marzipan and spices. liked the base beer a lot better, this one is horrible boozy and for the high ABV it has quite little else to offer. My 3rd or so barrel aged black ipa, and I still do not understand the point..

Bottle at home. Aroma is malt, bread, sweet ripe fruits, some caramel, sugary. Flavour is moderate to medium sugary sweetness. Body is medium. While others ratings mention a nasty gusher, my bottle was actually undercarbonated. Not good, dull sugary malty ripe fruity Maibock.

Bottle: Thanks Bierkoning: Served in a Duvel glass: Fluffy beige head. Black body. Aromas of grains, porridge, light herbs/spice tints, light laurel, apples, something unpleasant fruity chemical ish... Flavours of some laurel, toast, bay leaf, bread, some bitters, grains, malts, hay, something unpleasant again towards the aftertaste... Aftertaste has that unpleasant note with some malts and grains... Low carbo, creamy mouthfeel, medium bodied. That unpleasant thing is quite strong in the aroma and still pretty present in the flavour which unfortunately takes the beer a bit down in points...

0,33l bottle at home as part of Euro Local Swap courtesy of bierkoning, big thanks. BB 09/2016. black color, medium big coffee-colored head. smells of coffee, coffee grounds, bitter herbs, rather bubbly carbonation, spices, nettle, hints of roast. decent smell, quite bitter herbal / coffee notes do not come out very well. full body, medium carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes of caramel, licorice, bitter herbs, bitter chocolate, earthy notes, nettle, spices. finishes a bit dry with some hints of roast with notes of licorice, spices, light earth and bitter herbs. rather weird one this. the "coffee" I would describe it as a combation of bitter herbs with some licorice and caramel. overall beer is also a bit too sweet and lacks some roast notes. not what I would consider a coffee stout. I almost feel a bit generous giving a 3 for this. Not my kind of beer.
