Bottle kindly shared by Jurgen & Geralda @ The brewery. Lightly unclear golden color, average sized off-white head that lasts for quite a while. Aroma is malts, smoke, very balanced. Taste malts, smoke, rye, again very balanced, a slight sweetness initially but the smoke evolves into a superb bitter finish. Suitable body and carbonation. Probably my best smoked beer I’ve ever tried.

Berghoeve Hammer Schout Stout
The beer has all the looks a stout should have. On the eye the beer is pitch black. Strong light reveals a ruby red color. The beer seems clear in this strong light. On top of the beer, a tiny drape of light brown foam is formed. It’s an extremely little amount of foam. The smell of the beer is good. It’s a little mild though. I smell some delicious chocolate and caramel aromas of dark roasted barley. This pleasant aroma really invites to take a sip of beer. The dark roast aroma is really rich and fills almost the I tire smell. There are some sweet aromas though, again of chocolate but also of raisins. The taste is a bit steronger than the smell. It has the same lovely chocolate and caramel roast aromas together with a raisin sweetness. The balance is great. The beer is a little by watery though. The taste and the smell could have been a bit stronger. The taste also has a tiny unpleasant touch of metal. The palate is good, but the bubles are just a bit to small. This gives the beer a watery feeling. All in all, a nice beer but there is room for improvement.

Berghoeve Tsjuster Red Wine Barrel Aged
Bottle. Pours a pitch black beer with a quickly diminishing tanned bubbly head. Settles quickly into a small ring. Aroma of wine wood, red fruits, slight roasty notes, light citric hops. Flavor is bittersweet, loads of black malty notes, deep barrel characters and light tannins as well. The hops aren’t all that present, just some light bitterness alongside a decent barrel character and stout notes. Enjoyable to drink, long cloying sweet finish. Decent stuff.

Berghoeve Zwarte Snorre Barrel Aged Bruichladdich Whisky
Sampled from 0.33 l bottle at ’Beertemple’, best before March 2017, courtesy of PotjeBier, thanks Arjen, was really looking forward to this one as well! Pitch black with a light brown, soapy layer. Sweetish, slightly roasty, moderately peated and a little medicinal aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, licorice, tar and some iodine. Sweetish-malty, moderately roasty, medium peaty and a bit medicinal taste of dark chocolate, coffee, licorice, tar and some iodine, followed by a long, moderately roasty-bitter, quite warming-alcoholic finish. Medium to full body, slightly creamy to oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Really good again, hard to say which of the two versions I prefered, maybe this one is a bit more balanced, but the mouthfeel of the Imperial Whisky version was a tad better.
