von Trapp India pale lager
Can from a Lazy dog. Mostly clear deep yellow with a tightly bubbles white head that persists and leaves spotty lace on the sides. Sweet bready pilsner malt and a crap ton of spicy floral lemony hops. Lingering hop bite in the finish. Pretty nice hoppy lager.

von Trapp Dunkel Lager
Caramelized malty aroma and flavor. Has an enjoyable malty sweetness, but still being easy drinking and not sweet. Lager funk is not really there. Nice dark malty beer. Really quite enjoyable and well done for a normal beer style. I like it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can from Brewtopia. Golden with dense fluffy white head and lace. Floral aroma with hint of lemon and grass. Light malty bready helles sweetness with kicked up lemony grassy hoppy finish. Medium light body, nice carbo to accentuate hops and lighten body. Damn good. Iím enjoying these IPLs.

von Trapp India pale lager
This was poured into a pilsener glass. The appearance was a soft hazy yellow color with a slight transparency to it. Carbonation could be seen rising at a moderate pace to fill a one finger white foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace. Semi-moderate lacing runs here and there. The smell takes the crisp sweet floral hops to bounce upon some delicate smooth sweet bready malts. The taste was basically the same with a sly little bite of the floral hops sliding into the aftertaste and then on into the finish whish is somewhat sticky wet. On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a crisp sweet sessionability about it. Carbonation rides fairly low so some stickiness runs about, nothing overbearing, feels good and still some light hop harshness comes to give it a slight bitter/harshness, why, well, it just does. Overall, as an India pale lager, Iíd say itís a good one, definitely fits everything von Trapp says it should. Iíd have this again.

von Trapp Golden Helles Lager
BBQ beer on Memorial Day. Extremely light color and flavor, but everything was also crisp and clean. Low hop bite, which left the slightly sweet, slightly grainy malt body to come through. Extremely light, but also perfectly pleasant.

von Trapp Trosten Bier
Where and how: bottle 12 oz
Aroma: roasted dark malts, soft Dunkel like vibe you see in Czech Tmaves. Nice straight clean woody feel, hints of raisin and molasses. 7+
Appearance :
Top: medium tanned, mocha like cap. Some lace and rings on glass.
Base: brown of unknown opacity.
Palate : medium plus bodied, soft sides, slightly chalky.
Taste: mild smoke, molasses. It has feel of smoked dunkel. Very clean work. Mild top end of hops.
other notes not a Schwartz per se yet enjoyable dark lager for sure.

von Trapp Pilsener
Where and how: bottle 12 oz
Aroma: I must say this actually smells like typical Czech Pils. Mild tartness, hinted with Saaz, semi dry with good, proper to style malt work. Stylistically correct but just average over all.
Appearance :
Top: medium white cap with rings on glass.
Base: hazy gold.
Palate : soft bodied, very clean.
Taste: Clean, no dms, hinted with smoke (sic!). Very drinkable lager. I like it a lot.
other notes why do I detect hints of rauch?

Bottle on Motherís Day. Itís a Czech pilsner, which isnít my favorite style, but it does a game job of trying to stay flavorful and interesting. I didnít find it exciting, and I thought it was a bit thin, but there werenít any big flaws and it hit the spot on a hot day.

von Trapp Dunkel Lager
12 oz. bottle purchased at Prost, North Hampton, NH. Deep ruby or brown type color, thin tan head. Aroma is rich with Munich malt showing, chocolate hints, burnt sugar, dried fall leaves. Earthy

The flavor has a bready character with the same earthy malts that are found in the aroma. Sweetness balance by some spicy hop bitterness. The body is decent for a lager yet leans on the lighter side. Overall for the style it is pretty correct.

von Trapp Golden Helles Lager
Consistent example for the style, this pours a clear golden with small white head that settles to a ring with a bit of clinging. Aroma is toasted malts and grassy hops with a touch of honey sweet. Flavor follows nose with just a bit too much carbonation along the way. Finishes briefly semi-sweet but clean. Very nice.

12 oz. bottle. Dark brown / black with thin white head. Aroma shows coffee, caramel, burnt grain.

Flavor is spot on for the style. Molasses / caramel base that gives some mild sweetness. Mild nuances of chocolate. The finish has a burnt grain and very light smoky hint. Traces of yeast. The carbonation is moderate with a chalky / smoky grain texture. Easy to drink. This is rather nice.

12 oz. bottle from Prost. Aroma is toasted grain, sulfur, and mild yeast. Flavor is a reflection of the aroma with some light hints of dark bread and maybe a toasted nutty hint. Body is pretty thin/ rides the line of watery. Overall nothing close to high end of the style but drinkable enough.

Pouirs a light golden straw color with good clarity and a two finger pillowy foam. Nose is cracker with hints of grass, honey and a touch of sulphur. Palate is grain forward with nice balance of bitterness and sweetness. Carbonation is spot on and its a refreshing brew with some nice lingering nuances of arugula, dandelions and rustic german malts.

von Trapp Weissbier
Bottle from Brewtopia. CLoudy golden orange with lasting head and lace. Clovey spicy aroma with some wheat tang and light banana. Peachy malt with grass and wheaty tang and fairly long assertive spicy citrus mineral grassy bitterness. Medium light fairly soft body. I like my hefes sweeter with more banan esters and less bite in the finish. Had high hopes for this. Oh well, back to Paulaner even though itís not as fresh.

von Trapp Weissbier
12 oz. bottle purchased at Prost. Hazy lighter yellow color, decent head retention. Aroma is light citrus, mild banana with a bready malt hint.

The flavor shows the German yeast character that you would want in the style. Body is lighter and not having a chewy yeast texture. Pretty much standard for the style. Decently made but canít stand next to the older German examples in style. No flaws or problems.

von Trapp Golden Helles Lager
Buttered kettle corn without the saltiness, European hop spiciness. Lacks the creaminess of the top five or six German Helles but is a good interpretation of the style and can be had at a fair price. Not concerned where beers are from as long as they are enjoyable. That being said this is the best one Iíve tried from the US and a top 10 or 15 Helles overall.

Best by 3/15/16 (ie. Past the date). Came from a mystery pack I purchased at a cider shop in Waterbury VT. An unexceptional lager. Nicer carbonated. No head. Yeast and spice aromas. Clean aftertaste. Wouldn't buy again but nothing wrong with it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Growler Garage. This was poured into a sample glass. The appearance was a hazy burnt yellow to orange color with a slight transparency about it. Carbonation seemed to rise at a nice pace. The smell had some nice sweet lemon, light banana, light Belgian spices all combining really nicely. The taste copied the smell very nicely. Sweet fruity aftertaste leads into a sticky sweet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. Carbonation runs smooth and light. Overall, I say this was a pretty good witbier. I donít see it as a hefeweizen, still one to come back to.

von Trapp Pilsener
This was poured into a pilsener glass. The appearance was a nice looking hazy yellow color with a two finger white foamy head that dissipated within about thirty seconds. Messy lacing clings and then slides into the beer. The smell starts off with some sweet grassy hops slyly moving into a light hoppy spice. Low bitter grassy hops bleed into a delicate sweet breadiness. The taste was mainly the same with a wet sweet corn aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a pretty good sessionability about it. Carbonation runs fairly light. Overall, as a German pilsener, Iíd say it works and definitely would have again.

Draft. My bar IDs this as a rauchbier, but the flavor is big roasty walnuts and a bit of roasty cocoa, not smoke. Aroma of faint coffee. Starts with a big burst of roasty mouth feel that disperses quickly. Refreshingly wintry!

Dark tobacco brown color with off white head. Maple roast malty dunkel aroma. Wow, really good dunkel, so many dunkel a are just a malty flat mess. Certainly malty but clean without the yeast flavor of an ail that just not pair well with a malty beer like this. Biscuits, roast, hints of hob bitter, and a "clean" finish. Thanks dlovell2 for sharing.

Pours a hazy burnt gold with a white head that quickly dissipates. Nose is slight malt. Body is medium. Taste is Munich malt with some complexity. Aftertaste has a higher hop bitterness lacking in other Viennas. Lighter in color than other Vienna lagers (Sam, Brooklyn, Leinenkugel, Dos Equis) but not in taste and bitterness. Very nice drink. 12 oz bottle in variety pack

This was poured into a pilsener glass. The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a one and a half foamy off-white to tan head. Light foamy lacing stuck around the sides of the glass nicely. The smell started with a delicate amount of sweet milk chocolate sliding into a graceful smokiness. Light roasty edges balance it out. The taste was semi-sweet and roasty initially bringing in the smoke to balance. Light bready/yeastiness flows nicely into the grand scheme of things. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium with a nice score of level maltiness sliding over my tongue. Overall, really nice schwarzbier ranging close to the "rauchbier" style.

Bottled from Meditrina. Black with ring head. Smoky caramel aroma and hint of herbs. Sweet burnt caramel coffee chocolate brown sugar maple syrup with ashy woody smoky finish. Medium light body. Could use a hint more carbonation. A lot like Jacks Abby Smoke and Dagger but not as good. I was hoping this wouldd be a Bamberger rauchbier and not a black lager. Anyhow, pretty good, but Iíll continue to drink Great Northern Smokin Rauchbier as my regular. And Iím especially glad I didnít rate it last night when I poured it into a glass I had not properly cleaned and it sucked. Yes, clean glasses matter.
