GarrettB	3.5 Twisted Manzanita Chaotic Double IPA May 17th, 2015 - Twisted Manzanitas' take on the Double IPA style is a ode to grapefruit. Bubbles in the glass buzz like an angry swarm of spherical honey bees, rushing to the top in haste. There the aroma spreads, alighting with grapefruit notes and white grape juice with a certain condensed sweetness. The body is medium weight, but those exploding blossoms of carbonation get crazy, cooling off only after letting the beer rest its heels on the tongue for a good few seconds. The effect is quite bitter but gracefully powerful. And it helps to buoy the hops, which express more of that grapefruit bitterness. February 28th, 2015 - Twisted Manzanitas (RIP) didn't shy away from strong beers. Clear and amber, their Chaotic Double IPA looks robust, with its busy looking carbonation. The smell is inviting, with a light floral quality, some rust, and more orange sweetness. There's also a layer of pine which gives it exponentially more appeal than it would have in its absence. The flavor is deep and heavy, with a long liner and teriyaki aftertaste. And when I say long, I mean looooooong. The flavor is also marked by a heavy and overwhelming booziness, though its excessive strength is only revealed in successive sips. Tuesday, December 5, 2017
