Reinaert Amber

Aroma:
Slight aroma of malts, caramel, Belgian yeast, fruit and grain.

Appearance:
Hazy/turbid amber/orange beer with a slight/medium off-white head.

Taste/Palate:
Starts medium sweet with malts, caramel, Belgian yeast and fruit; ends slightly dry with grain.

Overall:
This beer is rather intense and balanced, but lacks complexity. The flavour is more intense than the aroma, but both are still lacking. Okay beer, but nothing to write home about.

De Proefbrouwerij / Left Hand Wekken Sour
750 ml bottle. Pours a very dark red with moderate head. Aromas of chocolate syrup, soy sauce and light balsamic vinegar. Flavors of dark chocolate on ginger, somewhat tangy dark fruit and dry roasted malts. A little creamy to start and dry to end. Very light souring which is just right for the stout base. Interesting.

Draft at Mekong Restaurant. Poured a kind of ruby orange amber color with a small, wispy head. Aroma was lots of tart cherry character, very light sweetness. Some light stonefruits, cherry character. Funky, light crisp tartness to it.

Delhaize Brett on Wood - French Oak
Bottled 0.75 L, gift from a friend (Thijs). Dark golden to orange colored, small off-white head. Fruity nose, Brett, oak, marzipan, cherry candy, sour and sweet. Flavor is fruity, sweet, syrup, wood. More dry in finish. Remarkable brew, very original. Initially quite sweet, but is compensated by the dry finish. Makes me curious for the other versions.

Kletskop
330 ml bottle. Hazy golden body with a big, foamy white head. Aroma is malt, Belgium spicy yeast, slightly herbal and some kind of fruity. Flavor is sweet malt, grain, slightly spicy, very Belgium and hint of metallic bitterness (not in a bad way). Medium body and average aftertaste. Drinkable but noting original going on here, could easily be any kind of Belgium supermarket branded beer with more of a general Belgium beer flavor than any clear style or direction. Not bad, just not very interesting.

Pours slightly hazed (!) gold into a tulip. Bright white head with good retention recedes leaving sheet lacing. Sweet biscuit, dusty aspirin and tropical fruit aromas. Slightly tart with lemony funk and hay upfront turning to guava and passionfruit before the medium length, earthy pith finish. Nice - leans more de Proef than Trillium to me...

Nose: coriander, almonds, cardemom, malts, caramel, spiced, marzipan. Bottle shared, hazy yellow golden color with small to medium white head. Smell and flavor are bursting with green pear, passionfruit, white peach, pepper, juicy hops and Belgian grass. Perfect amount of light sourness to go with the complex and fruity tart Belgian saison profile. Medium body with light to medium carbonation. Excellent

0.33 bottle.
Hazy, amber color and a large, thin, off-white head of poor retention. Aroma is very yeasty and spicy, floral and fruity esters feature prominently as well. Taste is sweet, fruity, floral, a tad spicy too - it looses its yeasty character to an extent to be replaced by esters. A medium body, a somewhat creamy texture, and a soft carbonation. Finish is medium long and weaker than could be expected. Overall the brew is decent and quite drinkable. Would not mind having it more often.

botle recently picked up at Liqour Locker, pours a golden yellow light orange color with a small white head..nose is really nice muted pineapple, white sour peaches, lemon zest, trace of lemon head..mouthfeel is sublime with pineapple coming through and a really enjoyable zing of lemony goodness that is perfectly balanced..complex lingering finish to boot, wow. a ton of complexity in this one with an amazingly dry finish as well. can’t really find a flaw with this hoppy saison and could be the best hoppy saison I can recall, this is a perfect summer offering and I am glad to have landed a bottle!!

The taste is lacto off the bat, cherries, apples, funky, getting brett, not sure if it’s in there, but very dusty books and basement flavors. Medium to soft carbonation, not bubbly at all. Good beer.

Pours a slightly hazy golden orange hue with three fingers of white foam. Nose is a blend of rustic malt, citrus and hints of yeast and herbaceous accents. Palate follows the nose with nice balance. There is a glimmer of juicy hops that hold your hand while skipping through a freshly harvested hillside of fieldgrass where the horsedrawn harvester has taken a pause in the midday sun for the horses to have some water and giving the farmer a moment to flirt with the neighbors wife across the dirt road where she is weeding her herb garden as her long white skirt billows in a passing breeze giving the farmer a glimpse of heaven. Yup its good and will bring a sly smile to your afternoon for sure.

11.2 ounce bottle, 17031604 printed on the bottle cap. Served in a Prairie Teku, the beer pours a hazy gold color with about an inch and a half frothy white head that stuck around a while with a lot of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like tropical fruit, funk, earthiness and peaches. I think it tastes better than it smells, it tastes like peaches, peppery spice, funk, earthy floralness, tropical fruit, orange, and some bready malt. There’s a nice lingering fruity finish, and there’s also some tartness as the brew warms. Mouthfeel/body is light/medium, it’s easy to drink with a moderate amount of carbonation. I liked this brew a lot, I can’t really describe it but there’s just something that I really liked about it. I’ll have to get another bottle the next time I see this (if there’s any left). $5.99 a bottle.

Thx! 330 ml. bottle sampled. Lot 15.11.12. Hazy orange citrus, fine white bubbles. Nose is something awful & hard to pinpoint that really rubs me the wrong way, it’s like big industrial soap & spoiled lemonade, rutting grains, bit fizzy. Taste is fizzy soap, fish guts soap, very chemical, soap, plastic ginger,… Thin fizzy, chemical. I was expecting a standard bad unremarkable Belgian Ale, this tastes a bit like someone drops a cup of industrial into this or something akin to that. Really disliked it.

33cl bottle. Brown with big, light beige head. Aroma is cherry coke, some vanilla, raisins and dried plums, orange zest, chocolate and spices like pepper and clove. Aromas aren’t intensive though. Mouth feel is unfortunately watery but has a soft and puffy texture to it that makes it enjoyable to swallow. Delicate sweetness with notes of dried fruits and chocolate, then quite huge clove, earth and some other mineral dryness. Quite interesting mix there. Some more yeasty dough, metal and herbal bitterness. Short finish. Well ..on one side very easy to drink , almost thirst quencher with a booze and on the other side it lacks more flavor. But nothing major wrong with it.

33cl bottle. A very decent triple. Typical sponge cake, fruity esters (apricot, banana, grapes) with some fresh apples and orange. Also very common pickled ginger, coriander and pepper spicyness. Poured from a 32 oz crowler. Aroma is sweet with a medium light honey note. Some light stone fruit notes with some cherry and a touch of tropical fruit. Some caramel with a bit of toasted bread. Light acidity and faint citrus notes. Pours a slightly hazy, copper color with a large, frothy, rocky, light tan head that recedes to a thin film of foam that clumps in the center. Light lacing and no legs. Flavor is moderately acidic with a moderately strong malt profile. Lots of caramel, honey and some lighter toasted bread. Medium light bitterness. Some stone fruit notes and over ripe tropical fruit with bits of cherry. The honey character gives it a strong oxidation note. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, not a good beer. I’m not sure why, but this beer has such a strong a oxidation that really conflicts with the light acidity.
