Frenzel-Bräu Reviews

ALIBALI
2.4
Frenzels Senf Honig

Frenzels Senf Honig
High pillowy head, mustardy, sweet floral, lots of mustard seed and honey. Palate medium, low carbonation. Taste sweet, spicy, lots of mustard. Very original and interesting but not necessarily a thirst quencher. One glass is enough for a lifetime.

ElDesmadre
3.1
Frenzels Dunkel
Draught at the brewpub. Caramelly, a bit tart, almost vinous aroma and flavour with nutty hints. Gets tasty after a few sips, though it is not at all ’dark’ aroma- and flavourwise.

2.5
Frenzels Festbier
Draught at the brewpub. Well attenuated beer with a confusing aroma and flavour. Soap, strawberries, fig liqueur, vibovit,... doesn’t seem it turned out as intended.

2.8
Frenzels Summer Ale
Draught at the brewpub. This one has a pleasant, light toasted malty base which albeit is its only merit. The citrusy, floral and resiny notes of US hops are very subtle, the strawberry esters even more so, while the sulfury hints do not cnecessarily belong in here. It’s drinkable but only due to its malty side.

Frenzelskaner Hefeweizen
Draught at the brewpub. Banana, vanilla, clove, bibblegum and clove. Fullish but kept refreshing due to some citric tartness. Soft mouthfeel. A classic, very well executed.

Frenzels Pils
Draught at the brewpub. Very light, almost watery, bready beer with a light bitterness. Lemony and grassy German hop notes in both aroma and flavour. Very refreshing and tasty.

Frenzels Rauchbier
From tap at Leipziger Bierbörse 2014. Brown, small head and smells malty. It starts smoky with a medium ham taste - I’m glad about that. I don’t like the typical strong taste like a smoked ham. A bit toffee and slightly sourness at the end. Good one.

Frenzelskaner Hefeweizen
Draught @ BBF13. Pours cloudy amber with airy off-white head. Clear aroma of yeast and malt with a touch of banana. Soutish, yeasty flavour with notes of banana and grain. Served lukewarm, which a near scandal. Very watery. Not my favourite GH to put it mildly.

Frenzels Pils
Draught at BBF13. Sourish aroma. Hazy golden colour. Small white head. The flavour is dry and sourish. Has some alcohol free bitterness. Dry, bready and metallic. Perhaps spoilt in the heat?

Frenzelskaner Hefeweizen
Draught at BBF13. Weak bubble gum aroma. Cloudy orange colour. Stable off-white head. The flavour is moldy. Semi-sweet, but no more than many other Hefeweizens. Too earthy and moldy.
