(330ml bottle @ VilleValla Pub, Linköping, Apr 29 2016) Pours clear pale amber with a loose moderately sized white head and spotty lace. Aroma has a decently sweet caramel malt base with citrus peel, pineapple and pine needle hops that balances sweet and bitter notes. Palate follows the nose, a caramel core with soft graininess and hops that provide semisweet orange, mango and tropical fruit along with a larger helping of pith, pine needles and resin that yield somewhat sticky bitterness. Semi-dry finish, moderately bitter aftertaste. Medium body, average carb. Nothing that really sticks out here, but a solid, fairly drinkable IPA.

33cl bottle, served in Tulip glass. Pours black with medium beige head. Good lacing. Aromas of coffee, citrus, roasted malts and caramel...smells so special. The flavour is very unique as well: coffee, citrus and earthy hops, chocolate, vanilla...really complex. Pleasant bitterness on the palate along with the roasty touch, everything’s in haromny. No alcohol presence at all. Body is almost full, carbonation is perfect. Awesome one!

330ml bottle bought at HK Brewcraft in Central.

Looks: Cloudy hazy blackish brown colour with a layer of dirt-like yeast sediments; Three-quarter finger head and crumpety light beige foam which lasts for 3 minutes; Beautiful sticky lacing with fizzy carbonation.

Aroma: Very fragrant and sweet dark malt, with strong cocoa, strong coffee, strong caramel, strong sticky toffee, vanilla, perfume, plums, strong cream, sugar, light alcohol, earth, strong Bel yeast, light lemon and light grass.

Taste: Close to light sweet dark malt, with strong roastyness, caramel, light burnt toast, light molasses, black coffee, light dark chocolate, light floral, light molasses, earth, light spices, strong yeast, lemon, strong bitter hops and grass.

Body: Close to medium body. Quite creamy and very slick palate.

Mouth Feel: Moderate dark maltyness in slick and very smooth background. Fair roastyness with fair burnt toast. Black coffee is strong er than chocolate, caramel is watery. Pretty light sweetness with earthy yeasty and lemony hops to round. Pretty good!

Hoppiness: Earth, light lemon and light grass in nose. Light floral, earth, light spices, strong lemon and grass in taste; Bitterness is strong for a lasting, high astringent bitter sweet finish.

After Taste: Quite dry. Lemony and strong bitter to mouth.

Comments: All its goodies is on the nice, perfumey cocoa-ish aroma. Taste-wise it’s smooth, hoppy and coffee-ish but lacking the chocolate. A nice fusion Belgian Dark which is nearly successful. Worth a try but not top.

On tap at Draught. Pours a deep black with the faintest hint of a tan head around the edges. Big boozy roast and plums on the nose, lactose sweetness, malt. Alcohol is certainly detectable on the nose, but it’s not hot and angry, but subtle, and knowing. It mocks you. It knows what comes next. Medium bodied, warm and full of chocolate pudding, boozy and with a touch of sweet vanilla. Creamy mouthfeel, the lactose sweetness really comes through here, along with plums and prunes. Tastes like boozy instant pudding. Boozy on the finish.

(375ml bottle from Systembolaget) Pours black with a moderate head of tan froth and lots of lace. Aroma is definitely smoky, with chilies, smoked and even salt-cured meat, burnt wood, soy sauce, chocolate and roasted malts. Flavour sweeter than the nose, with a brown sugar and caramel core, sweetened coffee, milk chocolate, a little liquorice, toasted malts, smoky chilies. Both smoke and heat from chilies build up from the middle of the sip, partially drying the finish though sweet malt core remains. Moderately spicy finish, low roast bitterness and a little alcohol. Fairly full bodied with low carbonation. More smoke than I was expecting, and a bit more chili. Not as balanced as their chili stouts, due to lower roast.
