Fytenburg Grand Cru Blanc
Blind tasted with 3 other witbiers. Witbiers were 1. Fytenburg Grand Cru Blanc 2, Old Town Abbey White 3. Sierra Nevada Ovila White Ale 4. Tighthead Go-Go Wit. Rater 1 rated the beers 3142, Rater 2 (ME) 3142, Rater 3 3412.

355. HAzed amber pour. Aroma is dry wheat, fruity pebble. Flavor is citrusy, tart, wheat, herbs, bit of bittersweetness. Okay.

Post tasting thoughts:
A classically done witbier, but nothign special, has a bit of autolyzed yeast hurting it.

Fytenburg Grand Cru
12 ounce bottle from Brennan’s Brookfield. Clear dark copper, medium fizzy tan head, fair retention. Aroma of toffee, soy, dark fruit. The taste is cherry, plum, soy. Thin. Meh.

Fytenburg Grand Cru
12oz bottle. $8.99 sixpack. Filtered looking deep brown-burgundy body. Thin, fading head. Medium bodied, at least for the style, thin. Has some nutty malt tones, some fruity Belgian yeast, but overall quite restrained, streamlined. Drinkable still, not off. Weak when compared to most other Dubbels out there, but not such a bad beverage.

Fytenburg Grand Cru Blanc
Dull gold color with a moderate size head of off-white bubbles. Scents of wheat and toasted barley, bit of coriander and touch of citrus peel/circus peanuts. Sweet start with a bit of vegetable (I somehow am reminded of rotting pea vines). Coriander kicks back in and helps it through that rough spot. Dry, fairly bitter finish and linger.

Fytenburg Grand Cru Blanc
12oz bottle. Grand Cru Wit? Odd deep grey tan body. The aroma isn’t really true to style either, not sure if it is off tones or just the spices, but has some of that putrid vomit/garbage aroma.. A really odd beer to put out in 2016. Bad.

Fytenburg Grand Cru Blanc
2 oz. or smaller pour, on tap at St. Paul Summer Beer Fest. Consumed on 6-7-14. I spoke to the brewer, and he told me that he had worked under Pierre Celis at Hoegaarden, and this beer is inspired by that experience and meant to be a very traditional Belgian White. Pours a hazy pale with a frothy, cream-colored head. Salty aroma features orange, orange peel, and lemon scents. Highly lemony taste features coriander and mineral flavors. Tart verging on sour taste (in a lemon citric sourness sort of way). Light body and insubstantial in the palate. A good example of the style and a good summer brew.

Fytenburg Grand Cru with Blackberries
Cask. Pours a dark amber with some noticeable purple and a small tan head. Aroma is dark fruits and berries. Flavor is grain and yeast offset by blueberries, blackberries, plums, and sugary notes. Light to medium body with medium carbonation. Pretty fruity; decent fruit beer.

Fytenburg Grand Cru with Blackberries
Cask at SPSBF. Pours a clear brown with a strong purple hue and visible chucks in the beer. Head is light brown and dissipates quickly. Aroma has a lot of blueberry with some dark grains and a hint of sweetness. Flavor is a bit thinner on the blueberry and overall with some dark fruit and dark grains.

Fytenburg Grand Cru with Raspberries
On draught during the Minnesota Autumn Brew Review 2011. Pours a hazy dark amber colored brew with a creamy off-white head that slowly dissipates to a white ring and film top. Aroma of raspberries, golden grain malt, some light candi sugar, bubblegum and a hint of clove. Taste is medium to full bodied, raspberry flavor over powers the Belgian dubbel yeast compared to aroma but still has some of the sweet dubbel texture. Finish is semi-sweet, some medicinal yeast and more raspberry aftertaste that slowly disappears.
