Wolverine State Wolverine Massacre Imperial Dark Lager
Bottle courtesy of my friend Lance. Thanks! 2015 Vintage. Black pour with a short tan head. Aroma is malty and boozy with caramel notes. Taste is overly sweet with booze, vanilla, caramel, sweet malt and candy bars. Body is medium with a soft, dense carbonation and big stickiness. Finishes with more sticky candy notes, caramel, vanilla, sweet malt and booze.

Wolverine State Barista Coffee Lager
From notes. I had this one on draft at the brewery on March 18 after a hockey game. The pour is a nice darker brown color that has a thin light tan head that lingers a bit, offering a little lac3e. The aroma is pretty good. It does smell like coffee, as one could hope. There is a hint of chocolate in this one with a light bitterness from the roasted malts. The flavor is definitely heavy in the coffee. This one is just as advertised. There is a nice bitterness associated with the coffee, and the rest of the notes from the nose just fall by the way side here. Itís very intensely coffee. The mouth feel is thin and light with a decent carbonation to help it out, but it is almost like a heavy cup of cold coffee. The aftertaste is all bitter roasted coffee with little else helping out. Itís not terrible, but you have to really enjoy coffee for this one.

Wolverine State Faustian Stout Baltic Porter
From notes. I had this one on draft at the brewery on March 18 after a hockey game. The pour is a nice black color, but it looks a little thin, and the white colored head definitely doesnít convey the richness that I want to see. The aroma is actually pretty good. There is a nice dark fruit that resonates throughout with a good thick roasted malt and a nice dose of chocolate. There is a nice woodiness that is also detectable. The flavors are a little better still. The chocolate definitely takes over, with a nice roasted malt and a good strong dark fruit complexity. Itís nice. There is a light caramel malt trying to poke through on the finish as well. The mouth feel is thicker and the carbonation is a little high. This one would benefit greatly from a softer carb. The aftertaste is lingeringly dry with a good chocolate and dark fruit hanging around. This might be the best beer Iíve had by them since Gulo≥.

Wolverine State Volitionist Stout Lager
From notes. I had this one on draft at the brewery on March 18 after a hockey game. The pour is a nice darker black color with a thin eggshell colored head that is a little foamy, but bubbles down to a thin form and nice collar. The aroma is definitely roasty. There is a light chocolate to it, but for the most part, there is just a heavy roast to it, and itís pretty basic. The flavor is definitely roasty. Itís bitter and dry, and the chocolate that was apparent in the nose is long gone. Itís incredibly one-dimensional. The mouth feel is decently thick, with a softer carbonation and a little bit of creaminess trying to help out on the aftertaste. This is just a roast bomb thatís trying to work through other flavors that just done appear. Roasted malts are all thatís happening here. Itís drinkable.

11/15/15. Bottle during Ryanís epic birthday tasting. Thanks, Mike! Fuck these Brewers for the wax. Seriously, if youíre reading this - fuck you. Fuck you to your core, you idiots. Anyway, this bottle says 13%. Booze all over the aroma, from the beer and a little bit of bourbon, otherwise ashy, charred, dark roasted malts, day old weak coffee, and a touch of sourness. Big, boozy flavor, bourbon, charred, ashy fireplace wood, old bad coffee, caramel, cream, lingering acidity. Not good.

Fought the wax for like 5 minutes so I hope this is worth it. Aroma is barrel, booze, vanilla, caramel malt, toffee. Appearance is dark brown, light khaki head, thin. Taste is booze, caramel malt, nougat, lots of weird bitterness, very woody, not good. Mouthfeel is light, woody, off-putting, wow. Overall, why didnít I trust my gut? This one could visit the sink.

Wolverine State MoMoShoga
On tap, poured into a tulip. The aroma is a mild dish soap that fades and reveals ginger, light rye, and sweet, peach candy. By the end, the aroma is peaches and cream. The beer pours a sparkling pale soap with a white head that has a mild retention, and a light, messy lace. The taste is a medium sweet with a medium light bitter. Itís smooth with a soapy carbonation and a light body flavored by citrus, stone fruit, light dish soap, and fresh ginger. The finish is crisp with ginger, ripe peach, and citrus zest. The aftertaste is a bit soapy with notes of ginger, and dry rye bread. Itís fresh with a mild linger, and sticky character.

4oz on tap at Hopgeist. Clear golden orange color. Good doughy bready type pilsner flavor, with the peppery hop, too. Clear golden orange color. Ring of white head. Leaves good webs of lace. Moderate bitter taste, light to moderate sweet. Great hoppy lager, though not much distinctly wet hop. Drinks like a nice slightly maltier pils. Medium body. Kind of soft, lighter carbonation. Moderate sweet taste, lighter bitter. Tasty.

From notes. Enjoyed this at the MBG Winter Beer Fest. The pour is a nice mahogany color with hints of ruby poking through. There is a frothy head that fades down pretty slowly, leaving a couple legs of lace. The aroma is pretty fruity. There is a good bit of lighter fruits kind of like a fruit cocktail. There is a good chocolate present as well. The flavor is big on the sweet cherries. There is a pretty strong booze and heat on the back of the throat and a little syrup. The mouth feel is weird. Itís like a cough syrup, but the carbonation doesnít help, and it does fall off quickly. The aftertaste is lingeringly boozy, with a little fruitiness. Itís pretty strange, but a pretty decent dopplebock
