Cottrell Mystic Bridge IPA 3.3
A few bottles during Streets and Annie’s wedding. Amber body, white head. Aroma is soft grassy hop and clean malt. Mouthfeel is medium to light bodied with notes of grassy hop, pils, piss, lemon, caramel malt and pale wheat. Not offensive.

Draft @ Boathouse in Mystic CT while waiting for AAA tow on Streetsie’s wedding day. Lol. This beer’s a lifesaver. Pours dark ruby red, cinnamon colored head. Wet earthy hops abound. No harsh aftertaste. Kind of dank.

Cottrell Perry’s Revenge 3.7
12 ounce bottle. Very dark with just a little red. A tan ring. Rich fruity malts in the aroma. Dark fruit, very rich malts, and toffee are all tasted early. It is kind of like a fruit cake and it is a bit bready. Also a little like chocolate covered cherries. A dry bitterness begins to emerge and is somewhat a chemical effect. A good winter warmer of a beer.

On tap in Reading Terminal Market, pours a murky brown with some thin white head. Nose is odd, spice, candy sugar, some root vegetables, maybe even a little cooked squash. Flavor follows, cloves, all spice, candy, toffee. Boozy finish. Reminded me of a bad dubbel. Makes for an even worse scotch.

Cottrell Old Yankee Ale 3.2
Location: 12 oz bottle from Nikki’s Liquors, 6/12/15

Aroma: The aroma is fairly malty, some earthy and bready notes, and a little citrus as well
Appearance: It pours a cloudy copper color with a frothy beige head and some average lace
Flavor: It tastes similar, fairly balanced overall, not too sweet, not too bitter, just balanced
Palate: It is medium bodied, with a decent mouthfeel, average carbonation, and a light dryness
Overall Impression: Solid enough beer. It has some flavor and a decent amount body, but overall, it just doesn’t quite get there for me. Decent enough, but not my favorite.

Cottrell State Line Handcrafted Amber Ale 3.1
Bottle, 12oz. A lightly hazy dark golden to amber colored beer with a small, off-white head. The aroma is lightly caramel-ish, with some nuts, bread and a little fruity touch. The flavor has the same caramel, nuts and bready, but it’s more like a piney, citrus zesty hoppyness with a little bitterness added. It’s full to medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Long caramel and fruity finish. Far from superb, but it drinks easy. Would like most things more pronounced though. 150610

Cottrell State Line IPA 2.9
Bottle. It’s a hazy, dark golden beer with a small, dense, off-white head. The aroma is rather malty, with a citrusy, piney touch and some caramel. It’s full-bodied, soft and quite dry on the palate. It’s quite bitter, with caramel sweetness, some generic fruityness and a touch of pine cones and orange zest. Long bitter and fruity finish. Not the best beer I’ve had, not much IPA-ish either. 150608

Cottrell Perry’s Revenge 3.5
Draught: This one pours a clear, dark copper color. There was a small off white head. It has a good malty nose. Caramel, toffee, some fruits. The taste is good. Just a bit more than medium bodied. Toffee, caramel, a hint of chocolate, maybe some raisins. Some hop notes also that kept the sweetness down. Nice.

Cottrell Stonington Glory 3.5
Bottle. Pours a clear yellow gold body under a wispy white head that left a bit of lace. The nose is bready pils malt with a nice light and clean hoppiness, a little bit of light yeastiness. The flavor is a bit murky from the light yeastiness, but it’s fairly well lagered and clean. Nice bready maltiness, soft lingering hoppiness. Light bodied and easy drinking with soft gentle carbonation. Pretty decent beer, much better than I was expecting.

Cottrell Mystic Bridge IPA 2.9
Bottle. Pours a ear copper body under a frothy beige head that left some sticky lace. The nose is more husky and crystal malt than hops, which is never a good sign for an IPA in my book. The flavor is much the same, this is overly sweet and malt forward with just a light bitterness and lacking in hop flavor. Lingering husky and sweet maltiness. Light to medium bodied, a little sticky, soft fizzy carbonation. Meh, not my kind of IPA.

12oz bottle from Spirits Fischer Blvd. Poured a syrupy reddish-brown with a very small light beige head. Aroma is very malt forward, cinnamon, dates, fig, raisin bread dough. Body starts off medium but fades during the swallow, lighter carbonation. Flavor similar to the aroma but a lighter cinnamon taste, dark toast, earth, dry nut shell, bark and raisin bread dough.

Cottrell Mystic Bridge IPA 2.6
Pours a hazy copper/brown color with almost no head. Aroma has a caramel nose with a ton of earthy bitterness. The flavor has clashing characteristics. One one side it wants to be extra hoppy but on the other is has a strong minerally and caramel malt presence. Both of these characteristic make a pretty rough IPA. Body is modest with a very low amount of carbonation. Overall I am not a fan at all of this beer.

EithCubes
Cottrell Perry’s Revenge 3.6
Bottle. Room-filling nose is heavy with malt, sweet, brown sugar and earth, toffee, light caramel, light spice, tons and tons of red berry and stone fruit, peach, pear, jammy cherry, touch of apricot, some smoke, plum and raisin. Just a touch of alcohol showing. Deep dark brown pour wit an ephemeral tan head, beautiful garnet highlights. Body is only medium, lightly watery at times and flattish, but very smooth and graceful. All of the above flavors in spades, really a nice depth of malt complexity, no citrus but plenty of other fruit, smoke is minimal, sweetness is bracing but not cloying, and the alcohol is remarkably well-tamed. Light, clean bitterness with an earth component to the light hops, faint honey and roast. Wish it were fuller and had something resembling an aftertaste (preferably with smoke!), but as it is, a good bit of fun!

As good as it is to be with family on a sunday afternoon I can’t claim it improves the taste of this beer. It’s a fine tasting beer. One I would not seek out. Crisp, slightly malty, vaguely hoppy, sharp and a little harsh on the tongue.

Cottrell Mystic Bridge IPA 3.6
Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a somewhat hazy yellow to golden orange color with a decent one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. There was some light lacing that slid right on into the beer. The smell had a nice English sweet maltiness running over top of some light bitter piney hops. The taste was English malty sweet with that same bitter piney hoppiness running underneath to balance it a bit. On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body and had a pretty good sessionability about it. The carbonation was suited more towards an English IPA than an American one (there was a certain subdued carbonation about it). Overall, yup, sure is. This is an English IPA made by an American brewer and its definitely one of the better ones on the market in the U.S. I say get it if you like the EIPA style.

Cottrell Old Yankee Ale 2.5
Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a decent looking pale amber color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within seconds. Yup, it sure looked like that head didn’t want to last for any possible party that could occur (wow, I never saw any head dissipate so quickly). Anyways, there was some light lacing but that slid for the most part into the beer. The smell tried to have a roasty yet somewhat nutty caramel maltiness but honestly, it was more just some cooked caramel notes about it. The taste was a dry sweet caramel maltiness that had a dry sweet aftertaste. There was a decent dry finish. On the palate, this one sat at/about a light to medium in body with a sessionability that wanted to occur, but I found myself not finding this one as sessionable as I was hoping to as it just seemed like it wanted to be sipped (weird, well, anyways). Overall, hey uh...honestly not a bad Amber ale. However, I’m not exactly sure if I’d come back to this if actually given the chance as there’s just something about the palate that keeps me on the fence.
