Les Roy de la Pomme Frileux Beauceron
375ml (thx, Frank S.!) @ Ryan's after kids' time. Appearance: clear blonde. Aroma: some sweetness and apples, nothing complex, but it's pretty pleasant. Taste: along the same lines. It gets better when it's warming up. Overall: very simple for an ice cider, but still pleasant enough for drinking.

Poured from 375mL bottle. Clear pale blonde with no head. Mild stewed apples, feint sweet toffee, lacks complexity, but still tasty. Has some additional flavour as it warms.

375ml bottle @ the office. Pours a clear golden colour with no head. Nose is tart apples, stewed apples, with a subtle toffee note. Flavour is upfront tart apples, ample stewed apples, and hint of toffee. Medium to heavy bodied, no carbonation, and a high sweetness with a mild acidity. Drinkable and decent.

Blond to golden colour. Sweet apple juice aroma. Sweet flavour with little complexity.
Pleasant and clean but nowhere close to the top ones.

375mL bottle, pours a clear golden blonde. Aroma brings out lots of stewed apples, caramelized sugars, and gentle toffee. Flavour is along the same lined, with lots of stewed apples, laid back caramelized sugars, and toffee. Not a whole lot of depth, but for a 7% ice cider, it’s very pleasant.

1 oz sample. Clear amber gold pour. Aroma is super solventy, paint thinner, light wood alcohol, maple, apple. Taste is solventy rich maple flavor, unfortunately with tons of pretty bad boozy flavors, weird apple acidity that doesnt blend well at all with the maple flavor. Palate is med-full bodied with burning alcohol finish. Garbage.

2 oz sample. Bright gold pour, nice clarity. Aroma is cidery, lots of pear, light waxy notes, honey, floral notes. Taste is fruity, pear, honey, light acrid bitterness I could’ve done without. Palate is med-light bodied, nice and dry, warming alcohol. Decent.

4 oz sample. Clear pinkish red pour. Very jammy overripe strawberries, cloying perfumy aroma. Taste is sweet, overpowering overripe strawberry, nice sweetness, juicy. Palate is light bodied, a tad watery, sweet. Weird, kind of like drinking strawberry juice actually (which isn’t very good). Unappealing at best.

Pours a clear pale yellow with some legs. Nose is of apple skin, slight wild yeast, apple flesh and some alcohol. Taste is lightly acidic and pretty dry, offers some crisp apples. Body is light to medium and carbonation nil. Slightly tannic. A fair cider, I would certainly get that one again if offered in a small bottle or can.

2 oz sample. Bright candied pink pour. Aroma is fruity, sweet, tons of raspberry, overripe strawberry, something vegetal like squash, leafy notes. Taste is sweet, herbal tea like leafy fruity flavors, rather dry, low sweetness. Palate is med-light bodied with light booze on the finish. Meh.

2 oz sample. Clear pale gold pour. Aroma of tart apples, fresh, juicy apple aroma, floral notes. Taste is cidery, apple juice, strong acidity, not very sweet, some ripe apple in the finish lingers behind for a bit. Palate is med bodied, rather dry and definitely not satisfying enough for an ice cider. No obvious flaws, this drinks fine but it just isn’t on par with the style and what cideries around here have gotten us used to.

pours unclear very pale golden, some legs are sticking in there. caramelized pears, some purée/sauce notes, white grapes and golden raisins sweetness; awkward celery salt presence, floral honey notes, astringent/bitter lemon peel - touch of acidity; light phenolic bananas. flat carbonation, medium body - oily and round; semi-sweet, very boozy and astringent finish. a pretty decent strong and sweet still perry.

Pours a clear pale golden with some legs. Nose is of alcohol and some pears perhaps. Taste is of pear, light bitter alcohol. Not too tasty overall. Light drying alcohol. Body is light to medium, a bit weak if you ask me but it still offers some "juicy" moments. Bah...

P.S. It got better as it warmed.

4 oz sample from bottle (750 ml) at home. Thanks to czar for this! Clear bright pale golden with no head and little legs on the glass. Flavor of pears, phenol, alcohol notes and mild green apples presence. Taste is moderatelty sweet, mildly acidic and the alcoho show up a bit. Medium body. Still. Pears and some alcohol warmth in the finish. Decent Perry. Not much complexity or depth but ok balance and not too much boozy presence considering the abv.

4 oz sample at home. Courtesy of czar, thanks! Ultra pale yellow leaving no head and very little lacing. Flavors of mild white wine, greem-ish apples and mild hay. Taste is very slightly sweet and not much more acidic. Light body. Still. White wine-like finish with herbal notes. It’s not very flavorful but it’s super easy drinking. Decent.

Sample, thanks to czar. Clear golden-amber leaving some legs on the glass. Flavors of alcohol/booziness, solvent, artificial maple, berries, caramel and some spiciness. Taste is sweet and hot with not much acidity or depth to compensate so it’s rather cloying. Medium body. Oily mouthfeel. Solvent finish, burning quite a bit. I’m surprised nobody noticed yet that the mix of cider/ice cider and maple is ALWAYS disgusting. Both products can be great on their own but together it’s god awful. This one makes no exception and, if it wasn’t enough, it’s also boozy and solventy. Completely unbalanced.

2 oz sample at home. Thanks czar! Clear ultra pale golden leaving little legs. Flavors of apple, mild spiciness, honeyed sweetness, mild citrus, mild brown sugar and herbal notes. Taste is slightly sweet and mildly acidic with not much alcohol showing up. Medium body, light for an ice cider. A bit oily. Dull finish. It’s a very weird ice cider. Lighter than most, much more "honey" oriented with a light body and not much sweetness. It’s ok, but definitely not one I would seek.

pours clear medium dark golden, orange-pink tint with some nice legs. woody tannins - perhaps from maple tap water; astringent and aggressive alcohol - spirit or cheap mead-like; phenolic caramel, some boozed red berries, tingling ginger, hint of acidity, vanilla. flat carbonation, medium to full body - oily; semi-sweet, spicy and hot maple finish. apples are overshadowed by full-blown maple tap water/syrup and harsh ethanol. not a complete fail to me. agreed that it’s a disgrace to quebec ice cider, and to maple syrup i would add.

sample. pours clear bright golden, not really showing off any legs. blue grapes (!), some red fruitiness and plain apple caramel purée - fire cider reminiscence; honeyed apples, some brown sugar sweetness - nicely dosed; ginger, vanilla, woody, astringent booze, hint of acidity - citrus fruits (!), minerals. flat carbonation, medium to full body - quite syrupy; sweet and spicy finish. unrefined grape-like cider, which is odd. this is a new product, and yet, it feels oxidized. far from world class ice ciders. ugh.

2 oz sample at home. From czar, thanks! Clear pinkish with no head or lacing. Flavors of raspberries, strawberries, alcohol, not much apples... a bit artificial but not that bad. Taste is semi-sweet with very mild berries acidity and a bit of alcohol warming but not that much for the abv. Medium body. Oily mouthfeel. Warming finish with strawberries and raspberries. Slightly dry. Like Slovak said, there’s not much apple presence in there, which is always dull for a cider. Not bad per se, but I don’t see an occasion where I would enjoy drinking an high abv not really acidic and not really apple forward berries cider.

Pours a clear light golden with limited legs. Doesn’t feel too syrupy, too, I first thought it was a regular cider even. Nose is of crisp tart apples with some light brown sugar and alcohol. Taste is lightly tart and lightly sweet with some juicy apples and lightly brown sugar. Never hot. Body is light to medium by ice cider standard and mouthfeel is lightly sticky. Not too shabby!

2 oz sample from bottle at home. Thanks to czar for this one! Clear bright golden, leaving little legs on the glass. Aroma is boozier than most ice ciders and it has notes of overripe aples, brown sugar and pineapples. Taste is sweet but also quite boozy which doesn’t leave much place to the apples. There’s a mild to moderate acidity alongside cardboard-ish notes and mild tropical notes. Medium body. Oily mouthfeel. Warming, borderline burning finish. Totally lacks the refinement that makes most ice ciders so enjoyable. Raw and boozy. Subpar.

Ici, rien ne me semble artificiel.
