Draft at Khyber Pass. Opaque back pour that started with a good show of khaki foam but reduced quickly to a soft ring and left no lasting lace. Not much aroma. Dark malts. Carob beans. Glossy chocolate liquorice. Black currants. Cold coffee. Desiccated walnuts. Vanillin. Charcoal in the finish. Distinctive but feels more like a strong Porter than a Stout.

Lots of honey in the aroma and also in the finish, but coupled with a long and strong dry hoppy bite. Interesting

Magic Rock Shredder
Can from Trafalgar Wines, Brighton. It pours golden with a big, foamy white head. The aroma is fresh, fragrant, orange peel, bready, coriander, wheat and light sulphurous fart. The taste is crisp, juicy, bitter - sweet, plenty of sweet orange, tangerine, apricot, lemon, orange chewits, touch of fruity tartness, wheat and straw with a dry, citrusy finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Aroma is a bit sulphurous for my like, although taste is better. Decent.

330ml Can - Fresh fruit aroma. Golden, clear beer with minimal head. Lightly bitter with strong grapefruit taste as you would have hoped. Not bad, better once you get used to the bitter taste of the grapefruit

Keg at The Firefly, Hereford. Clouded orange with white head. There is a sharp bitterness to this, hoppy, bitter orange flavours. There is a floral, nasal note, herby and drying. Good depth of flavour. I really enjoyed this one.

Keg at the Kings Arms - Bethnal Green, London. Pours clear gold with a creamy, pure white head. Soft tangy lemon in the nose, pale wheat, whispers of white grape. Light-medium sweet flavour with more soft lemony tang, a little hay, doughy meringue, faint citrus rind, lightly jammy white grape. Light to medium bodied with fine, massaging carboantion. Crisp finish with a touch of alcohol, white grape sweetness, mild peely bitterness, some sourdough bread, wheat flakes. Very enjoyable beer.

Can at home from the brewery
why have i not rated this yet?!
full bodied rich and sweet - its a completely different beast to the base beer which I love so much. Fruity though not specifically orange, lots of warming alcohol, rich and dessert like, full bodied, heavy, sweeter, less bitter than the original. Still enjoyable and worth a try but the regular and bourbon barrel versions still king.

Wow. From the 2016 vintage, from a bomber bottle. I was worried that this might be a bit old now, it’s drink by date has a month to go , butthis is fantastic. Pours a hazy golden orange, with foamy white head. Great fresh hop, sherbet lemon aroma. The orange marmalade flavour is intense, but doesn’t have any hint of alcohol burn, it drinks like a 7 or 8 % DIPA . Lovely citrus and drying hop finish. Would love to try this really fresh.

Can at home in London - picked up from the Hop Locker. Pours cloudy gold with a dense, frothy white head. The aroma holds subtly tangy citrus notes, orange, tangerine, some rind, wheat bread. Light sweet flavour with more pleasant citrus fruit character, bitter orange peel, pithy grapefruit, lemon zest, pale wheat bread, light bitter straw. Light bodied with average carbonation. Finishes with spritely citrus fruits, tangerine, rindy orange, pale wheat, hay. Easy-drinking gear. Can’t say I understand the hate for this one.

Served in a snifter from a 330ml can. Pours slightly hazy golden-orange colour with a medium off-white head. Aroma is a wonderful combination of tropical fruits with clear notes of citrus, orange, grapefruit, mango and orange, then subtle peach, caramel, grass and pine resin are coming up with the second sniff. Taste is very crisp and clean with citrus, orange, tropical fruits and grass, slightly spicy with a long citrus-hoppy bitter-sweet finish. Medium body with slightly oily texture and soft carbonation, very well balanced. Very nicely crafted APA, will definitely have more of this fantastic brew!

Can. Nose is freshly ground coffee, espresso, hazelnut/praline, cigarette smoke, hint of wood and leaves. Taste is very pronounced coffee and smoke. Further sips bring out the fruit, blackberry and plum with a hint of apple. Chocolate and nut emerge as the beer breaths and the sweet caramel body shows, adding depth with the bitter coffee finish. It’s a good coffee porter.
