Twisted X Brewing Company Reviews

Twisted X Nuevo Negro 3.6
10 oz tulip draft at the brewery tasting room in Dripping Springs, Texas. The pour is an opaque black brown with a small off white head. The aroma is floral earthy hop along with a soft roast. The taste is a nice blend of the floral hops of the nose, along with a roast malt that carries the finish. The subtleness of the roast made this quite drinkable. The palate is light to medium bodied with soft carbonation and a clean soft floral finish. Nice.

Twisted X Premium Tex Mex Lager 1.8
Sour and funky. Thin and metallic. Fake citrus notes. Would be improved with a lime but probably not much. Very disappointed in this beer.

Twisted X Premium Tex Mex Lager 1.7
Can into a pint glass. Pours a very pale light yellow with a small white head. No detectable aroma or flavor. Awful. As bad as macro adjunct lager. Donít waste your time and money on this flavorless swill.

Twisted X Premium Tex Mex Lager 2.6
Poured from a 12 oz. can at The Scarlet Rabbit. 2 1/2 finger foamy white head, clear straw color. A bit of fruit in the aroma. Taste has a touch of hops, corn, mildly sweet. Crisp, refreshing.

Twisted X Siesta 2.9
TCBF. Pours a rather odd but interesting off-pink orange-gold with a thin ring head (a note: despite the description above, the brewery rep said this was colored with hibiscus, not red corn). Nose is clean with a slight fruit element to it -- rather non-descript. Clean on the tongue as well, with a nice light sweetness; it does have some substantiality to it, despite the light body, with bready and yeasty notes. Drinks easy. Finish is clean but a little hollow. Decent beer for Texas heat.

Twisted X Dripping Oak 3.8
Listed as 7.5% at Craft pride but Iím not going to argue about the entry. Pours a hazy golden with orange tint. White sticky head is full and sticks around. Aroma is dank and kind of stinky. Its cool on the palate and very bitter but mostly in the aftertaste. High IBU for sure. Im glad Twisted X is branching out into this category.

Twisted X Fuego 3.2
Austin,Tx - Lamar Foods - 12 oz can. Medium golden pour, quickly diminishing white head. Aroma has some nice peppery hotness, a bit of natural dirt earthiness. Nice pepper burn in the flavor, not overwhelming, some topsoil, Pleasantly crisp mouthfeel, just the right amount of pepper burn.

330ml can at home. Pours light amber. Light hop finish, too light for an IPA.

Twisted X Calypso 3.5
Orange pour with a white head. The aroma has some nice orange and biscuit malt notes with a bit of sugar. The flavor is a bit different. I get a lot of perfume notes from the hops as well as some orange, sugar, toffee and biscuit malt. Fairly sweet overall. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Twisted X Chupahopra 3
Clear amber with a frothy off-white head. Weak aroma of biscuit and nuts, with even weaker aromas of resin and grass. Taste is bready/biscuity malts with some mild grassy hops. Light-medium bodied, slick, relatively mildly carbonated.

Twisted X Premium Tex Mex Lager 2
Pours a clear light golden color with white head. Cereal grains on the nose; follows onto the palate. Light bodied. Not much on the finish. Bland at best. Surely not premium.

Twisted X Fuego 2.6
Had this on tap and boy was it not good. Appearace was like any other decent amber lager. Aroma slightly vegetal. Taste upfront is fairly innocuous but after a second the jalepeno kicks in with a very strong vegetable flavor and a fair amount of heat. Turns out I like jalepenos, just not in my beer. Yuck.

Twisted X Chupahopra 2.6
Pours a slightly hazy orange gold color with off-white head. Grass, malts, and citrus on the nose; follows onto the palate. Nothing really outstanding about this, pretty much an average IPA at best.

Twisted X Chupahopra 3.6
Pours a hazy orange body with some yeast floaters abound. Decent head and lace, aromas and flavors gravitate towards the biscut and nutty malts with the citrus and piney hops coming around in the middle and having a slightly bitter finish. Decent balance but its a bit malt forward, not bad overall, the name and label are both kinda cool.

Draft @ Twisted X. Black in color with a tad bit of head. The aroma is ok, citrus, pine and weak roast. Then we get to the flavor: Oh, dear god this is out of whack!

The flavor doesnít have roast to balance the hops. The pine comes off as a very harsh astringency. The body is thin and water with not enough malt backing to support the hops. Something else is off that canít be explained. If I had brewed this at home it would be finding the drain pipe.

Twisted X Chupahopra 2.8
Draft at the source with the glass in my hand. Clear gold color, low carbonation level. Aroma is very faint; weak citrus. Flavor isnít bad because there is not much here. Straw and grain body with a good amount of bitterness. However the bitterness doesnít come from any real hop. Itís just bitterness without the hop punch. Maybe I am soiled from New England imperial IPA. But I donít think so, just lacking. Not undrinkable just real bland.

The hit of the pool party -- convenient it was the only beer I bought a full 6-pack of. Caramel malt and grain nicely offset by some hops bite in the finish.

Twisted X Cow Creek 1.9
Amber brew with decent head. Smell is not good. Not sure how to describe it but it is not a desirable smell and does make me wonder if this is worth tasting. Taste is only mildly better than the smell. Some toasted malt flavor with a earthy herbal thing that just doesnít do it for me. To top it all off this is yet another brew that can only be had in the CAN.

Twisted X Chupahopra 3.9
Clear golden brew with small head and bits of something floating around in it. Hope that those are just yeast flecks and not something nasty. Aroma is and flavor is a strong floral hop. Good stuff and at a reasonable price. Too bad it can only be found in the CAN.

Twisted X Premium Tex Mex Lager 1.4
This is my first brew from this brewery and glad to see the deScription said it is the lightest beer in their arsenal. Golden brew with a cheap lager corn aroma and taste. Just as well be drinking Frio from HEB for a lot less cost than this. So this one tells me NOT to try anything else this brewery has but since they acknowledge it is their worst beer then I guess I will try others. Better get better or all hope or even respect for this Texas brewery will be lost.

Straight from a can off a sixer. Aroma of slight malt and slight hop and grainy sweetness. Tastes of slight balance of hop and malt, med bodied, and nice lager yeast. Do not really drink lagers but this one is good. Would be good in a michelada.

Tap at brewery. Pours slightly hazy golden color, little head. Aroma is faint hay and citrus. Not much in nose. Taste is sour, apples and vinegar. Slight grass and faint blonde ale flavors. Pretty good, but raw. Needs some refinement of the sour as it can be a bit overpowering. Glad I tried it.

Twisted X Chupahopra 3
This is a pleasant enough IPA but it’s certainly nothing special and not something I would buy again. It’s lacking flavor. Just seems weak. Crap, now what am I going to do with the other 5 from the sixer?

Twisted X Chupahopra 3.9
Sweet citrus aroma. Orange hazy color with a one finger white head that fades after a little while leaving some lacing around the edge of the glass. Light on the carbonation which is nice compared to other IPAís. This is a full flavored IPA. It has good amount of hop flavor, it is not too weak or over the top. Taste: floral, piney bitter flavor with hints of malt. Medium mouth feel.

Twisted X Fuego 3.1
Pour from the bottle is clear golden slightly darker than a Coors light but just barely, aroma is almost watery hints of a larger and a little fresh pepper notes, taste is clean minor sweetness from the jalapeŮo a minor heat finish. Overall this beings out the jalapeŮo in a maner that is complimentary to a pale ale.
