3.7 Moonlight Homegrown Wet Hop Ale Fresh can. Enjoyable. Medium golden amber in color. Light haze. Fluffy slightly off white head. Sweet hop notes but mostly herbal, mineral-ish flavors to them. A little pine. It has more malt to it than you might expect from a wet hop pale ale. Toasty malty sugars. Light caramel. Pleasant, clean flavor. It has that sweet wet hop flavor but again more malt sweetness than you typically find in this sort of thing. Finishes fairly brisk with light to moderate bitterness. Some lingering pine/mineral/citrus rind hop aftertaste. Feel is soft and nice. Enjoyable little beer. It's not going to wow you but it's solid and fits with Moonlight's general character. 3.4 Moonlight Double Calcutta by Clipper At the brewery, golden with white head. Notes are candy malt, orange rind, light cheese, florals, cracker, grape lollipop, rotting fruit, and bitter pine. A little too much residual sugar for me at the 8.1 percent, and the dumpster hop flavor was hard to get past. Least favorite of night. Wednesday, September 13, 2023

3.8 Moonlight Rhythmic Chaos Poured from a 16 oz can dated May 12, 2023. Aroma is malt forward with lots of caramel, toffee and toasted bread notes. Hints of treacle and some light burnt sugar notes. Light fruit notes of raisin, cherry and plum. Medium light alcohol notes. Light herbal, woody hop notes with a touch of citrus. Pours a dark brown with auburn hues on the edges with a large, thick, pillowy, dark tan head that recedes slowly to a small, creamy film that lingers. Fairly high lacing and long legs. Flavor is fairly sweet with lots of caramel and toffee layers as well as quite a bit of toasted bread and burnt sugar. Some light nuttiness and treacle with hints of roast. Moderately high to high bitterness and medium light alcohol notes. Light cherry, raisin and plum notes. Moderate woody, herbal hop notes with a touch of citrus character. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low, but present astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, a solid American barleywine that definitely skews towards the old school character - fairly bitter, quite a bit of hoo flavor and some hop aroma. Malt notes are a bit darker and richer than a traditional American style old school barleywine. Saturday, July 1, 2023
