3.3 Biere D'Abbaye Lacu Lively (nice streams of tiny bubbles) golden liquid with a taller off-white head. Sweet somewhat stale malt scent, with floral hops, honey, hay and hints of alcohol. Soft, smooth feel. Light sweet malt and grain flavors in the start. A bit of tropical fruit and some floral hops. Really not very complex. Simple mix of a saison/Belgian ale. Looks and feels good, but no personality. 4/13 Monday, May 29, 2017

3.4 Biere D'Abbaye Lacu Poured in a large Bordeaux glass. Light hazy gold in appearance with a fizzy head. Mild floral of aroma, with slight hints of citrus fruits. Very soapy on the palate, but refreshingly zesty and light on the stomach. Sunday, April 2, 2017

3.6 Biere D'Abbaye Lacu Bottle from Total Wine & More in Milford CT. Poured into a goblet. A hazy straw color with a fizzy off white head. 3.7 Biere D'Abbaye Lacu Pours a very transparent gold with a large head which disappears quickly......aroma of slight earthiness, citrus......taste is lemon citrus, yeast, earthiness, wood notes, nice mouthfeel, just a touch of sour in the end. I’m not a Belgian fan but this is interesting. Thursday, December 11, 2014

3.9 Biere D'Abbaye Lacu 750 ml bottle into tulip glass; B335 0245 bottle code. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy deep golden color with a 2 finger fairly dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon zest, orange peel, pear, apple, white grape, coriander, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, grass, light pepper, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast, spices, and pale malt notes; with good strength. Taste of lemon zest, orange peel, pear, apple, white grape, coriander, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, grass, light pepper, and hebral/yeast earthiness. Fair amount of earthy spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon zest, orange peel, pear, apple, white grape, coriander, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and robustness of fruity/earthy yeast, spices, and pale malt flavors; with a great malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and slightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with no warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice Belgian pale ale. All around good balance and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast, spices, and pale malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering. Sunday, October 12, 2014

3.2 Biere D'Abbaye Lacu Bottle. Pours a tan hazy color with a yeasty lemon taste . Boozy tasting but not afterwards . Easy drink in masked Belgian. Decent ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone Wednesday, March 26, 2014

3.2 Biere D'Abbaye Lacu There is orange in both the nose and the taste, with a hint of coriander (a very small hint). It pours a beautiful golden color with mild head, and is incredibly smooth. The hops are overshadowed by the malts, giving the beer a sweeter, less bitter quality. Tuesday, March 18, 2014

3.1 Biere D'Abbaye Lacu Bottle on sales at BOTW. Pours a hazy yellow/orange with some floating yeast. It has a big foamy head that rings the glass as it subsides. The aroma is very typical of the style as is the taste. It has a nice refreshing quality and is quite easy drinking. Thin body. Sunday, December 1, 2013

3.3 Biere D'Abbaye Lacu A decent run of the mill Belgian style beer. Aroma was decent. Smelled like a witbier. Orange peel and coriander were the main smells and flavors. The pour was a beautiful cloudy light gold with a 3 finger white head. A little Belgian yeast flavor came out as it warmed. The finish was a little disappointing. Quick watery finish with just a slight coriander aftertaste. Nice strong carbonation. Was surprised to see this was from Italy Wednesday, July 10, 2013

3.8 Biere D'Abbaye Lacu Date tasted: June 27, 2013... Glassware: Duvel oversized tulip... Occasion: goodbye school year, hello, summer--and goodbye NBA draft anxiety,, hello Anthony Bennett?!... Appearance: thick, falling-from-the-club-type foam head that sits unevenly on a pale, peach body of slow-paced carbonation--worthy of repeated viewing... Aroma: sports a softened mux of coriander and light hops--some bright banana and sugar tease, but not full-nostriled... Palate: rather smooth with wrinkles of aftertaste; slight carbonation gives it a champagne mouthfeel but much drier... Taste: sweetish? honeyesque? a delicate-tasting orange profile that doesn’t maintain its strength... Overall: From the start, gives one high hopes,, and on this day, when Cleveland moves forward, I’d like to think this beer is a good deal like Bennett--capable of great things despite its inability to truly be a #1 draft.... 3.4 Biere D'Abbaye Lacu 750ml bottle split with Anndiesel. Hazy, unfiltered yellow-tan body. Slow rising carbonation bubbles, massive fluffy white head. Serious floaties. Really odd spice tones, with some banana tinges, with that toasted almond/chestnut malt feel the Italians cannot get enough of. Not unlike a Belgian Blonde, but spiced out, and finishes like a banana forward hefeweizen. Unique I suppose, sort of teetering on Gruit. Has a nice, pleasant mouthfeel. Not bad, but not really worth a premium price. Sunday, June 23, 2013

2.8 Biere D'Abbaye Lacu While the head left much to be desired and the appearance was nothing to mention, the beer itself isn’t bad. Picked up two dozen for $1 each in the discoed bin, and am very glad I did so. Slightly yeasty sessionable brew with some light citrus notes and slightly thin dry finish. Nothing too distinctive, but worth every penny (and more, really) which I will happily quaff away on my easy drinking nights. Saturday, March 2, 2013

3.3 Biere D'Abbaye Lacu I bought this on sale, but it was still kind of pricey. Good looker, great head. Not a ton of taste. Some citrus comes through, probably more orange peel than coriander. No tartness. They recommend this with risotto or chicken, and it probably will work better with food than alone. It reminds me a little of Estrella Damm Inedit. Saturday, November 10, 2012

2.7 Biere D'Abbaye Lacu Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is dark yellow. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain, husks), lightly hoppy (flowers), lightly yeasty (basement), with light notes of lemon zest, pineapple, butter. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, slightly husky. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Pretty lame. Husky and dull nose, which even has some diacetyl. Bland and husky in the mouth. Disappointing. 3 Biere D'Abbaye Lacu Yeasty aroma ,smells a little bit like baked beans to me for some reason!, cork flew out the bottle upon opening, Bready malts on the palate with some spice and slight lemon, not much else going on, I felt like it needed some more estery flavours going on, ends up being a little dull and uninspiring. 4.2 Biere D'Abbaye Lacu An Italian take on a classic Belgian style, the first thing you will notice about Lacu is its frothy, creamy, and unyielding head. This hazy golden ale’s aroma is full of lemon, orange, and yeast. Sweet grapes, grassy malt, and a mix of lemon and orange. Hops provide just a touch of bitterness. The 6.3% ABV warms a bit, as well. I also like the champagne characteristics with its effervescence, slightly dry finish, and flavor. Lacu is smooth, creamy, and exceptionally well balanced. It will also take forever to get through it because the glass is half full of foam after every pour. Perhaps not mind-blowing, but my, is that tasty Saturday, March 3, 2012

3.8 Biere D'Abbaye Lacu 750 c&c from total wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours hazy orange gold with a very frothy 4 finger near white head. Aromas of citrus and yeast/spice. It’s pretty earthy, somewhat fruity, and spicy. Finishes dry. The flavor strikes me as more saison/farmhouse than anything else. Nice stuff. Thursday, February 2, 2012

3 Biere D'Abbaye Lacu Sampled from a 750 ml corked brown bottle this beer poured a clear pale straw color with a small white head that faded quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was dryish, tart and lemony. The flavor was tart lemons, faint bread and dryish mustiness. The finish was long, dry and tart lemons. Light to medium body. Ok. Sunday, December 25, 2011

3.2 Biere D'Abbaye Lacu 750 ml bottle at the International Great Beer Expo in Uniondale. Pours a very hazy pale yellowish gold with a white head. This beer was surprisingly devoid of aroma except for a few wisps of malt and yeast. Thankfully a bit more flavorful than the aroma suggests with malt, yeast, coriander, and orange. Mild bitterness at the finish. A bit spritzy on the palate. Light-medium bodied. Sunday, November 13, 2011

3.1 Biere D'Abbaye Lacu 750ml Bottle: Aroma of malt, wheat, grain yeast, orange, and light banana. Poured yellow/gold in color with a large, loose, white head that became creamy and dense while diminishing a bit. Cloudy. Very sparkling. Full of tiny particles throughout. Flavor is lightly sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of malt, wheat, yeast, coriander, citrus, and grain. Light to medium body. Average texture. Average carbonation. Grain, malt, coriander, yeast finish. Wednesday, September 14, 2011

3.5 Biere D'Abbaye Lacu 750 ml caged and corked bottle. Served in a tulip glass, the beer pours a slightly hazy gold color with an inch and a half white head that stays around for a while. There’s a good amount of lacing left on the glass. The brew smells like bready malt, bananas, some tropical fruit and a bit of clove. It tastes like lemon and orange peel, bready malt, pears, and a bit of banana, spice and a floral hop flavor. Mouthfeel/body is light/medium, it has high but soft carbonation and it’s easy enough to drink. I think it’s a decent brew, it’s worth trying but at $11.99 a bottle it’s not something I’d buy very often. Sunday, September 4, 2011
