La Socarrada Cervesa Artesanal Premium 3.6
33cl bottle from Olhops Bar in Valencia. Pours a hazy golden with frothy white head, quickly dissipates. Fair amount of particulates in beer. Very pleasant aroma of rosemary, honey, and ginger. Taste similar with notes of caramel, finishes sweet. Light body and medium fizzy carbonation, dry aftertaste. A unique ale.

Bottle. An unclear, orange-golden colored beer topped by a small, white head. The aroma is fruity with some sea water hints, chalk and and canned peaches. It’s lightly salty on the palate, medium bodied and softly carbonated, with some bitterness chiming in. Some sweetness is present, with canned peaches, some chalk and a generic fruityness. Mostly fruity finish. Not much interesting going on here. 160423

12 oz bottle from Whole Foods in Haight Ashbury in San Francisco. This was a pleasant surprise. Certainly it doesn’t taste like sea water but it has a nice semi-bitter taste instead. Good if you enjoy a novelty beer.

Shared 11.2 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy amber with a small short-lived white head. Aroma is honey, rosemary, spice, and tea. Taste is rosemary, honey, caramel malt, some fruitiness, and spice. It almost has a medicinal smell/taste to it. It’s most certainly unique, but in the end, it’s really not something I want my beer to smell or taste like.

Aroma: dominated by rosemary; smells like a rosemary cracker with fruity/sweet notes; Appearance: pours a hazy pale orange with lots of particulates suspended in the brew; scary; Taste: getting lots of rosemary and honey and that’s about it; Palate: really no carbonation, but that could be due to the age of the bottle; Overall: agree with reviewer who compared it to a rosemary cream soda. Not much of a beer.

Bottle from my friend Frank. A: Cloudy red body, thin white head. N: Rosemary, honey, dough, some salt, biscuit, cherry bark, and heather. T: Sweet and a bit tart. M: Light body, crisp carbonation, no alcohol. O: Kind of weird. I’m not sure what they were going for here, but the flavors do not blend together and I did not enjoy this in the slightest.

11.2 oz. bottle. Pours a murky gold with an almost non-existent white head. Some suspended sediment visible. Aroma of wheat, grass, and faint citrus. Taste is wheat, hay, and mild lemon with a bit of saltiness. A little sour. Light-bodied with low-carbonation. Feels unclean. Not so good.

Bottle shared by my friend during the Super Bowl. It exploded all over my pants, but fortunately I was at home and could change. Seriously, though, how does that happen with a Golden/Blonde? A: Cloudy orange, no head - which is not surprising since half of it ended up on my pants. N: Lemon, pine, earth, some orange, cracker, and corn. T: Bitter and a bit salty. M: Light body, crisp, sometimes explosive, carbonation, no alcohol presence. O: It’s fine in a vacuum. I don’t know what I expected, but this wasn’t it. Still, I think it’s a country tick, so whatevs.

330 ml bottle with a date stamp of 7-13-15 served in a lager glass. Cloudy apricot-copper body with a very good white head. Aroma: fruity and spicy; dominated by notes of soft ripe fruits. Apparent use of a Belgian style yeast given the flavor profile. Fruity with hints of light yeasty bread, banana, pear and apple. Sea salt is evident in the aftertaste. Medium-high but soft carbonation. Light body.

Gemischte Gefühle also.

CONCLUSION : bière primée par l’International Taste & Quality Institute (jamais entendu parler) ITQI 2014 à Bruxelles …

Draught > Rex's Fish Market, Farmers Market, Dallas. Interesting beer. A bit salty, zippy, citrusy and refreshingly lite. Works for eating w/ seafood. I'd squeeze a lemon in this sucker and drink it during the blazing hot Texas summer.

Pours a very cloudy, dark golden orange color with tangerine colored edges and a one finger white head that quickly settles into a lasting ring. Decent retention with spotty lacing left behind. Visible carbonation bubbling up as well. Earthy aroma with grassy hops, ester-y yeast and a prominent rosemary/herbal character. The hops are slightly stale in the nose with a dirt/soil like quality. There’s also hints of grass and pine followed by bread and light fruit. I’m not picking up honey at all but the rosemary stands out and smells really fresh. Pale biscuit malts underneath. Medium bodied, crisp and refreshing. More complex and interesting than the aroma suggests. Soft carbonation with some earthy hop bitterness up front nicely complimenting the herbal rosemary flavor. Again, the rosemary is very fresh and a prominent ingredient but it doesn’t completely overpower the other notes. Sweeter than expected, possibly from the honey and light fruit esters. Pale malt backbone with biscuit, cracker and bready yeast along with some apple, pear and vinous sweetness. I didn’t expect much after the somewhat bland aroma but found this to be a solid beer that’s well balanced, light and flavorful.

Lagery malts, in particular some pilsner malt which is quite OK, and sweet perfumey hops in the aroma. Hazy straw colour, small brief head. Quite pungently hopped. Light palate. Bit of a mess to be honest. Sweet and messy, but also a bit gutless. No thanks.

Has a good foam and cloudy appearance. Not very salty to taste despite there being an obvious salt sediment. Soon, it leaves a slight saltiness in the mouth. Overall a drinkable beer with fresh character. Probably wouldn't have more than one at once due to the salt though. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

La Socarrada Er Boquerón 2.8
Bottle at the Shrewsbury Bottle Exchange Group meeting on 16th Sep 2015: one of my offerings. Expected a unique flavour or distinct taste, this was not the case. Lively pour, a cloudy/misty golden colour with a large white crown on top. Mild yeast like aroma and taste with no salty Sea Dog influence at all. Light malts with a slight citrus note or two, really came across as just a blonde brew with a fairly bland feel to it.
