Ashton Pub Cream Ale

Ashton Pub IPA
On tap at The Goose and Gridiron Pub, Merrickville. Pours a fairly thick frothy creamy off-white head and has a golden appearance. Very thick dirty lacing. Aromas of floral and citrusy hops. Flavours are citrusy and floral hops, some piney and grassy notes. A bit of bitterness on the palate. Smooth and silky mouthfeel. Also quite creamy. Not bad.

Ashton Pub Amber Ale
Draft: Poured a clear burgundy color ale with a small foamy head. Aroma of grainy malt notes with light dry hoppy notes. Taste is also a mix of grainy malt notes with some dry hoppy notes. Body is light with OK carbonation. Not really great with weird grainy malt notes.

Ashton Patty’s 40th Anniversary Cascading Cream Ale
Goes by 40cc at the Loon. Pours a very light hazy, light-golden colour with a creamy white nitro head and decent lacing. Cereal malt scent, mild sweetness with hints of fruitiness. Creamy oily mouthfeel. Malty fruit taste with nice smooth hops in the finish. Good refreshing cream ale that I would have again.

Ashton Vanilla Stout
Sampled on draught at the Metropolitan Brasserie in Ottawa. Very dark brown with a tan head. Rich aroma and a taste of roasted malts, coffee and vanilla. Long and pleasantly bitter finish. Complex, but a little sweet and not particularly full-tasting. A very drinkable and well-balanced beer with lots of character.

Ashton Pub Session Ale
Purchased a growler from the brewpub. Poured with tons of carbonation, minimal head which quickly dissipated. Mild citrus notes for flavour, a bit of hoppiness and malty as well. Aromas of grains and malted barley. No head left whatsoever at about the halfway point. Fizzy mouthfeel and some carbonated sweetness. Doesn’t seem like a lighter than light beer to me. Pretty good.

Ashton Pub Miss Marbles Ashton Black
Had on tap at the Ashton Brew Pub. Arrived with about a 1/2" brownish creamy head, with an extremely dark brown colour. Somewhat weak lacing. Vanilla aromas apparent. Hints of chocolate and mild coffee. Flavours are very similar to aromas, chocolate, vanilla, some dark roasted malts, spices. Has a pretty good mouthfeel too, with a nice aftertaste. Another good stout!

Ashton Pub Harvest Brown
Enjoyed at the Ashton Brew Pub. Has a hazy brown appearance, small off-white head. Good lacing and medium retention. Aromas are sort of indistinct at first for me. Mild syrupy molasses flavour. Caramel notes. Kind of a bitter aftertaste, but not too offensive. Smooth mouthfeel. Pretty good stuff.

Ashton Pub Big Fish Black IPA
A fluffy tan head n a near black body. The nose has elements of malt and grassy hops. A really tasty BIPA. The taste profile features mild chocolate, a solid hop presence, roasted malt, a touch of Belgian yeast, and a slight nuttiness. A solid body and a clean finish.

Ashton Pub Big Fish Black IPA
Sampled at Brother’s Beer Bistro. Pours a dark brown colour with a beige-mocha coloured creamy head, good retention and creamy full lace. Aromas of chocolate malts, berries, roasted malts and coffee. The mouthfeel is nicely dry, but still refreshing. Interesting black IPA that I am surprised coming from Ashton. A step up from their game, as I like this brewery, but usually plays a safe bet. This is wild for them :P

Had a few times at Quinn’s. Pours a hazy amber colour with a small off-white head and a little lacing. Grassy mild hops with sweet malts and floral notes for the nose. Also in taste are the floral notes but not really sweet. More grassy with hints of berries. Dry finish mouthfeel. Pretty nice West Coast IPA that I could have anytime.

Ashton Pub Pumpkin Ale
Had a pint at Quinn’s Ale House (5% abv according to bartender, who was very helpful and good humoured). Pint arrived with next to no head. Had a hazy pale orangey appearance. A pretty smooth mouthfeel, a little bit watery. Weak lacing. Aromas are harder to pinpoint with this one, pumpkin spice and malts. Flavour is somewhat strongly leaning towards the hops, but that could very well be something less obvious (to me of course). Not too bad and pretty easy to drink.

Slightly hazy amber colour with a small beige head and decent lacing. Fruity malts (berries, peach, apples), honey and soapy hops. Grainy and fruity malts again in the taste with some typical Ashton hops. Light roasted malt lingers. Decent wet mouthfeel with some nice dryness in the finish. Not sure this is a Maibock, but it is a real good refreshing one. Fruity and well balanced hops and malts.

Ashton Vanilla Stout
Was really impressed with this one. It could have been that it was the first decent beer after a night of mediocre ones, but definitely more than I expected. Black with a 1/4 inch of tight mocha head. Roast and vanilla aromas. Silky mouth feel. Very creamy. Very well balanced between bitter and sweetness in the taste and the vanilla shines through well. Not much of an after taste. A pleasant surprise.

Ashton Vanilla Stout
On tap @ Murray Street Ottawa. Pours an opaque dark brown with a thick, creamy, mocha head. Aromas are roasted coffee, dark chocolate, subtle vanilla. Taste is dominated by bitter coffee, a touch of molasses. Full bodied, heavy carbonation, and a long bitter finish. Overall, taste was disappointing relative to the promise from the smell. Smell was reminiscent of the coffee flavoured Starbucks bottle drinks without the heavy sweetness but the coffee ground flavour was overpowering. Admittedly, I'm not a coffee drinker so my palette maybe a little different than most. ---Rated via Beer Buddy
