Pint at the Glen Nevis Restaurant and Bar in Glen Nevis (obviously!) This was a rather good pint of beer, clear golden colour with a good white head lasting well. Medium bodied, nicely balanced malt and hops, went well with my burger and chips!

River Leven Traditional IPA
Cask at Grog & Gruel, Fort William, Scotland. Poured a slightly hazy amber with 5mm of off-white dense foam that retained very well and laced very well. Aroma subtly of pale malt with hints of earthy grain. Taste slightly of malt and with a sharp bitterness; lacks the taste and hops profile of an IPA. Light body. Smooth and slightly creamy with a short finish.

It's good but I think the grains were toasted a little too much. It has a slight burnt taste to it. But it is still a good drink. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

River Leven "IPA" stond op de tapkraan. Oranje/amberkleurig bier met witte schuimkraag. Geur: moutzoetig, kandij. Smaak: moutzoetig en een lichte bitterheid. Lichte body en toch wat kleverig. Weinig koolzuurprikkel. Afdronk: licht zoet en licht bitter. Ik kan begrijpen waarom men dit bier niet invoerde als IPA, maar of men daar mee akkoord gaat of niet; als het etiket IPA vermeld, dan is het IPA!

Bottle from the Highland Getaway, Kinlochleven. It pours dark brown with a small, bubbly white head. The aroma is soft, sweet, caramel, malt loaf, brown bread and cola. The taste is dry, bitter-sweet, caramel, dried fruit, brown bread, cola, earth, wood and fruit cake with a pretty dry finish. Medium body and low carbonation. Pretty sweet and flat. Pretty bland gear. Forgettable.

Draught at Clachaig Inn, Glencoe 160624. Slight hazy orange golden amber with weak white head. Not much nose as it's cold. Some boiled cauliflower and herbs in the palate and a rather dry adstringent bitter finish. More like an APA than a pilsner. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clearly out of style. This pours nutty red when expecting pale, tastes crystal malt hen it should have a hoppy zing. It’s also not got the abv for an IPA. Bit like chalking up "Pepsi" and serving "tango". Lacked depth and when poured had a weird smooth nitro taste going on.

500ml bottle: BBE Oct 15. Poured into a UK pint sleeve at home on 6th Mar 15, during Scottish tasting session I had with myself. Blonde in name, golden in colour, the head a fast fading white covering. Not much in the nose, some mild maltiness with a whiff of hops below maybe. The taste however was fine, malty lead with a good bitter centre and finish. Toffee notes in the flavour, but not overly sweet. Decent and enjoyable: would be happy to drink this again and again, a good session ale.

2014-07-10. Crisp dark amber body small frothy off white head. 3+ Aroma is sweet, caramel and I’m guessing crystal malt. Flavour is similar, fairly sweet lightly fruity, mild caramel and treacle touches. Smooth average bodied palate, carbonation. Not unpleasant but not enough hops even for a British IPA. Cask at Scottish Real Ale Festival

River Leven Dark
Bottle from the Scottish Real Ale shop. Appearance - dark brown to black and opaque. Decent head. Nose - Highland Toffee and hazelnuts. Taste - more of the same. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a fairly good finish if a bit sweet. But hey that’s the style. Overall - even though the style has been nailed I’d have liked it to be a touch fresher at this abv.
