Sundbytunet Pilegrimspilsener 3.5

Bottle, at Kristiansand Ølfestival. It pours a clear, golden body under a dense, white head. There’s some pale malts in the aroma, with grass and fruityness doing good work too. The flavor has a nice bitterness, dealing easily with the pale malts, and there’s also pine cone notes, grass and a generic fruityness. Full to medium body and a nice carbonation level. Quite dry, both initially and in the end. A really fine pilsener, pity there’s so few of them. 150822

Sundbytunet Juleøl 2.7
This review is for the 2015 vintage. 50 cl bottle with a flip top, Nice popping sound when opened. Great looking, dark copper to mahogany coloured beer, thin beige head. No strong aromas, a hint of roasted malts and coffee(?). Not a flavour bomb, but I can pick up some malts, some coffee and maybe some dark, bitter chocolate at the very end. Medium mouthfeel, low carbonation. Verdict: this is still too young, it needs to be aged. So what I’m going to do is to buy two more, and let them sit in my cellar until Next autumn. Then I’ll do another review.

On tap at Crowbar, Oslo. Slightly hazy golden with a creamy, white head. Very floral aroma, too much for my taste, the smell reminds me more of some refreshener for bathrooms than beer. Some citrusy notes to, malt and some yeasty notes. Strange, a bit grainy with acidic hints and a rather light bitterness. Fair enough, I guess, but glad I only had the small glass of this one.

Flaske 330ml fra Eurospar Tomasjord. Drukket på Bergstua. Veldig lys gyldengulbrun. Litt uklar. Lavt skum med nydelig kniplingslacing. Beskjeden aroma av gress. Litt søt. Smaken behagelig. Bra balanse. Myk munnfølelse. Litt søt malt med innslag av korn. Tørr etter hvert. Sikkert en utmerket tørsteslukker.

Look; white top on pale strawy body. Aroma; creamy caramel, leaves, citrus, apple notes. Taste; fruity hops, juicy citrus, pale malts, apple notes - leading to a very fruity finish. On palate good, juicy soft-fizzy carbonation. Overall; good brew! Juice that recipe again, Sundbytunet. [33cl btl abv4.7%, B@Eurospar Tomasjord NO by Rune & kindly shared with me]

330ml bottle picked up at EuroSpar Tomasjord. Loose white head to a slightly hazy, yellow-gold body. Clingy lacing. Herbal hops and buttery malts on the nose. Taste of mild caramel joined by a buttery touch. Careful bittersweet endnotes. Smooth in the mouth. Well-made version of the style (shared with djoeye, Tromsø 11.10.2015).

On bottle from Gulating Strømmen. Clear golden color, ok foam. Low aroma intensity ( in this case a good thing); dominated by boiled vegetables and some stale cardboard- also some fruitiness and light citrus .Medium/ light body & complexity . Ok bitterness & balance. Ok beer- but the worst so far from Sundbytunet ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sundbytunet Gårdsøl Vår 3
Sampled at Vill & Syrlig 2015. Don’t really know if this is the “vår” edition or not, but served as Sundbytunet Gårdsøl at the Vill & Syrlig. Different entry at Untapped, but that doesn’t have to mean a thing. Anyway, after ten minutes fiddling with the tap I manage to get served an unclear golden beer with a huge, creamy, long lasting white head. Aroma is a bit unusually and definitively characterized by the yeast. It gives me an association of farmhouse, but not in a Belgium sort of Saison style. Can’t really put my finger on it and it’s not very strong. Some mild pale malt in the background and some kind of fruity/spicy yeast that might be closer to baking yeast than regular beer yeast – and not exactly that either, but my best description. The flavor is rather light malty, grain and again this yeast with a more fruity flavor than expected as the aroma was more spicy. Quite refreshing but not really that exiting. Medium to thin body and moderate in aftertaste. This is a rather stupid rating but the best I managed.

Bottle from Gulating Vestkanten, Bergen. Pours a slightly hazy pale yellow body with a small white head. Nose is straw, butterscotch, pilsener malts and hints of dusty hops. Taste is straw, pilsener malts, biscuits, butterscotch and hints of grass. Light, crisp body, medium to high carbonation. A rather tasty pilsener; the touch of diacetyl is not disturbing at all and puts it towards the Czech svetly tradition. Very drinkable for what it is.

33cl bottle from Gulating Ølutsalg avd Sandefjord. Pours clear, pale golden with a white head. Rather mild grainy aroma with some slightly fruity notes, hints of cooked vegetables, caramel and honey and some herbs and grass. Medium to moderate sweet with mild grainy flavours, modest hoppy notes and bitterness quite noticeable, but on the light side. Hardy much better than the regular, industrial premium lager or pilsner. Quite disappointing.

Sampled from bottle @ Kristiansand ølfestival 2015. Almost clear golden body with a relatively small white head. Nice aroma with lots of fruity hops for a pilsner and malt with a hint of caramel. Flavor is very smooth, medium sweet malt, nice refreshing citric fruit and decent bitterness. Medium body and nice aftertaste. A balanced, tasty and nice pilsner that stands out in the crowd. A positive surprise.

Bottle. A clear, golden beer with a dense, off-white head leaving lacings. The aroma is a bit malty for me, but there’s a nice fruityness too. Resin notes, some tropical fruits and a little herbal hint. It has a nice bitterness, but it could use some more body. Not bad for a 4.7% beer though. Nice carbonation level. Fruityness, pale malts, resiny hops and a touch of herbal notes. Some metallic hints in the far back of the finish though. Refreshing and quenching, but I’d like a bit more punch. 150711

0,5l bottle ordered from the brewery. Amber/golden colour, white head. Unfiltered/hazy. Was expecting more of a straw-yellow colour. Worty smell. Pilsnery in smell and taste. Pretty bland, but not the unpleasant metallic taste usually found in highly commercial brands. Had hoped this would be more distinct as I’d never tried Keller before, but this is a decent pilsner. Too bad I don’t really like pilsner.
