Brightside Soli-Pa
Pint (Cask) at SoLIta, Manchester (£3.80):
After initially being disappointed to find out this would be a cask offering, thankfully this wasn’t too bad & went down relatively easily. It was fresh, moderately bitter & had nice citrus bursts & the odd tropical fruit coming through whilst holding a nice balance. It wasn’t flat but the carbonation levels weren’t the best & it was definitely more golden ale than IPA but overall it was a nice beer & worth considering if you find yourself in a SoLIta restaurant in the near future.

Almost clear gold - amber beer, tidy pale cream colour head. Palate is light, dry and has decent fine carbonation. Smooth but dry pale malts, a little sweetness. Dry floralness with a distinctly soapy edge. Pithy dry citrus brings a mild bitterness. Some grapefruit before a soapy dry finish. Bitter linger. It’s not awful but a long way short of muster.

Cask at Merton Beer Festival, Friday, 26th February 2016 The little snowstorm of bubbles slowly recedes to eventually reveal an attractive looking light golden very clear beer with a white head. A citrussy nose, mostly lemony. Citrussy in the mouth but only slight, fruity with a little maltiness, nice good looking beer, no showstopper though in the aroma or flavour department, I guess the Polaris hop is holding it back ever so slightly. Aroma: Lemon soap and hops.
Appearance: Cloudy gold. Barley any head.
Taste: Lemon, hops, grapefruit.
Palate: Mild sweetness, followed by a mild lingering bitterness. Light carbonation - almost flat. Light body.
Overall: Nothing special. A bit flat, carbonation wise, as well as flavour wise, and aroma wise. A painfully average beer.

Cask, gravity dispense at The Mulberry, Twickenham. Light orange, clear, still, small bubbly white head. Aroma is light and watery, a touch of the seaside - saltwater and beach pool. Body is medium, smooth, watery. Taste is light, biscuity, a little medicinal with a tangy finish. Not much to it. Doesn’t live up to the strong name.
