Lost Tribes Beverage Reviews

Lost Tribes Tej 3.1
Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer Bazaar Yishkon. Thanks Squiz. Clear golden. Aroma of honey, flowers, a spicy touch, and a bit of alcohol. Sweet flavor with honey, a tart hint, flowers, some fruitiness, spice, and a drier and slightly alcoholic finish. A bit sweet and alcoholic for my palate, but still quite pleasant and very decent.

Lost Tribes Shikra Ale 2.3
Midnight acquisition from local grocery, inaugural Upper West Side Sip and Tip Fest, 18/02/14. Muddy copper amber with a rocky white foam that goes the distance. Something distastefully flabby about this one; aroma of vomited peach, biscuits (possibly canine), Southern Comfort, dried grass and wicker. Bilious boiled orange sweet taste with suggestions of wicker, bourbon and candle fat. Bitter papery afters. Not as bad as described but industrial, unattractive and worthy of the leaky, foldable plastic pint pot it was dispensed in.

Lost Tribes Light 1.4
Bottle sample at a tasting at Dancing Camel. Thanks Ariel. Clear golden. Aroma of graininess and lemon-scented detergents. Sweetish cereals flavor with husky graininess, a bit of sourness and weird lemony notes. Light-bodied. Pretty shitty.

Lost Tribes Shikra Ale 2.3
At a tasting, thanks Tom, smallish head, a touch hazy deep orange colour bordering on the copper, honey and Jam aroma, candy sweetness and hints of citrus with a strong coarse bitternerss. Unbalanced and not good.

Lost Tribes Shikra Ale 2.8
Pretty light pale ale with what seems like a little orange oil flavor (but is probably Cascade hops). Shikra claims to go back to 722 B.C. or something like that, but this reference to an "ancient Babylonian recipe" looks like a bit of a joke. The beer is not bad tho.

Lost Tribes Shikra Ale 2.2
Location: 12 oz bottle from Half Time, 10/12/12

Aroma: The nose is fairly herbal, it has light hops, some bread, and some caramel
Appearance: It pours a slightly hazed orange color with an off-white head
Flavor: The taste is medium sweet, malty, and fairly off, with a bitterness that is also a little off
Palate: The body is light-medium, it has an average carbonation, and the finish is off as well
Overall Impression: My first (and apparently only) rating from Lost Tribes, as they only have one beer on RB. Anyway, I didnít like this one much at all. Thereís just quite a bit off about it, and it really just doesnít work. Some of the other ratings are quite a bit higher, so maybe I got a bad bottle, but Iím not a fan.

Lost Tribes Shikra Ale 4.1
While its appearance is nice, its quite standard along with the head/foam. However the aroma and aftertaste scream of citrus and sweetness to help cover the major hopiness of this brew. Definitely bought a 2nd after it since it felt like a top notch session beer.

Lost Tribes Shikra Ale 4.6
complex taste; rather different than most ales. The story behind it adds to its mystique. Ancient flavours with modern brewing give this ale a beautiful start and finnish. I am definitely adding it to my home bar.

Lost Tribes Shikra Ale 4.5
P: A full finger crown of airy bone white head that sets atop of a slightly distorted golden orange body. S: Clean fresh fruity hop aroma, barley, caramel, and subtle pepper with a splash of citrus maybe? T/M: Pale malt base with spices, creamy citrus hops, apples and a dash of fresh pine. Finish is dry and leaves a sensation like you just brushed your teeth. O: An excellent display of aroma and bold yet delicate hops. Great drinkability and flavors that leave you wanting more. One of my favorite pale ales. Serving type: bottle

Lost Tribes Shikra Ale 3.6
Bottle from Paula. Pours light amber with a rather fizzy beige head. Aroma is rather odd - roast malt - but something leathery/tobacco. Which must have something to do with the date hint. Med body. Flavor is spicy/floral. Thereís almost perfume. This is quite bitter, full of (unusual) flavor, and pretty drinkable. Tell me itís a Dogfish and Iíd believe it.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Dancing Camel. Thanks Ariel. Clear deep golden. Aroma of hops, spices, some honey and a bit of malt. A rather dry spicy flavor with light malty sweetness in the background and strong and slightly husky bitterness and the finish. Light-medium-bodied. Weird. 4/3/5/3/10=2.5

Lost Tribes Shikra Ale 4.1
I love this brew! itís super aggressive on the palate like sierra nevada or any other hard-hitting pale ale would be, however, the smooth finish adds a terrific dynamic to this brew. I sipped one down with a T-bone steak last night - the saltiness did a great job balancing that hoppy flavor. Iím excited to see what other brews these guys come out with!
