Dry County Brewing Company Reviews

3.3
Dry County ESB
Misty tea colored. Mellow malt forward, caramel aroma. Dry bittering, a little homebrewy, a little woody and tannic, drinkable and nice. Medium body. Thanks to LuckyDog.

Dry County ESB
Good traditional esb. Moderate bitterness balanced with floral hops. Had it as part of a sampler along with a good slice of pizza.

Dry County Stout Farm
This ones confused me until I realized they intended to make a sour stout. Some roast. Not much hops. Interesting sour flavors.

Dry County Choconuts Farm
Not everyone will like this as much as me. I’m not sure what style to call it. Very strong shot taste and smell. Slightly citrus. I looked it a lot.

3.4
Dry County Belgian Red
Sampled at Sierra Nevada Beer Camp at Mills River. Murky reddish brown, no head. Smells tart and winey, with notes of cherry and balsamic vinegar. Taste is more balsamic vinegar, with some oaky notes, as well. Hints of grass, as well.

Dry County Citra IPA
On tap at Beer Camp Across America southeast. Pours a murky golden brown with minimal off-white head. Aroma is nice resinous hops, citrus and tropical zest. Taste falls short, kind of like home brew plus to me. Meh.

3.4
Dry County Pilsner
On tap at the brewery, this pours hazy straw into the glass, with a wispy suds head that leaves sudsy lace. The nose is of lemon cotton candy. Flavors of lemon, grain and light breadiness, citrus bitters to finish. The juice-like palate, medium body and refreshing, cleansing mouthfeel make for a nice homage to the German Pils, flavorful and crisp.

Dry County Stout Farm
On tap at the brewery, this pours cola into the glass, with ruby fringes, a small ring of suds that leaves ring lace. The nose is of dark fruits and light roasts. Deep dark cherry in the mouth, with hints of spent roasted grain and bitter chocolate. The juicy vinous body and mouthfeel scream porter to me, but its a decent brew regardless.

3.7
Dry County Citra IPA
On tap at the brewery, this pours murky straw-orange into the glass, with a wispy head that leaves soapy lacing. The nose is of nice citrus and floral notes. Grapefruit and malty caramel throughout, it integrates pine and a hint of ABV toward the bitter finish. Medium body that satiates the palate. Nice job and my favorite offering thus far.

3.3
Dry County Pale Ale
On tap at the brewery, this pours slight cloudy golden into the glass, with a wispy head that leaves spotty lacing. The nose is of sour, acidic kumquats. Hoppy throughout, there is a hint of biscuit flour and grassy bitters mingling with the citrus and zesty rind/peel notes. Active on the palate and medium-light in the mouth, this is a clean, cutting summer refresher.

Dry County Belgian Dubbel
On draught at the brewery, this pours hazy straw with a wispy head that leaves trace web lace. The nose has citrus, melon, banana and some barnyard musty funk. Flavors are similar, with melony citrus abounding and a nice finish of clove and licorice. Light body and smooth mouthfeel. Nice blonde here.

Dry County Smoked Ale
On tap at the brewery, this pours mahogany with no retentive head nor lacing of which to speak. Smokey peat nose with campfire meats. Smoked grains and some roasted, smoked peat maltiness. Nice smoked silage barnyard grains. The finish is smokey grains. Medium-bodied and almost juice-like mouthfeel, this is an interesting smoked. Nice rauchbier!

Dry County Smoked Ale
I love my wife for asking me to look up our options in Spruce Pine, when we had just had a below average meal and split a sweet candy Blue Moon at the Garden Deli in Burnsville. Unfortunately, we missed the farm-to-table restaurant there, but I saw the word "brewery" and we quickly drove past the turn-off for our mountain cabin to hit Spruce Pine. This brewery is smack-dab in the middle of a minimally decorated (really tasty) pizzeria in what looks to be a former convenience store. This beer was the stand-out of the bunch, perhaps slightly infected because it tasted sour and acetic, trending toward nail polish but in a good way. Nose of smoked hickory malts, cherries and cherry wood, and that hint of sourness and fingernail polish. Taste showed a bit of smoke at first, mixing well into something more acetic and sublime. Reminded me of the CL Smoke from the Oak series that were divisive to some but great to me. Poured a dark chestnut, slightly hazy with a small, barely there head.
