Morland Old Speckled Hen (Filtered)
Helder koperkleurig bier met een kleine snelzakkende witte schuimkraag. Neus is gist, mout, lichte karamel en een beetje kruiden. Smaak is licht bitter.

Harat’s stand, Opatovina beer fest, courtesy of Domagoj V., G., and Ogivlado. Poured an old gold body, slightly darker, with a small white head. Dry aroma, herbal touch. Smooth empty dryish taste, vague herbal note, vague maltiness. This is just useless, even for the strength.

Greene King London Glory (Bottle)
Bottle from Harat’s stand at the Opatovina Beer Fest, kindly shared with me by ogivlado, Domagoj V. &... G. Old gold body with a small white head. Dried fruit and caramel in the aroma, generic but not bad. The taste is the same but empty, vague peach only. Just OK, not terrible but without any real niche, use and anything but glorious.

Draught at Cross House Formby. Described as a brown ale but it’s particularly vanilla taste and the reddy/brown colour place it, certainly taste wise, somewhat closer to a porter or stout. Quite an interesting beer particularly from this brewer and at this time of the year. I would certainly drink it again but would see it more as a winter beer despite it’s low abv.

Bright clear gold beer, good pale cream colour head. Palate is light, mildly dry. Smooth light thin malts. Fair bit of bubblegum ester sweetness, banana too. Mild hop spice. Pineapple led tropical fruits. Light floral bitterness. Light dry finish. Quite estery but not at all unpleasant.

500ml can from Sainsbury. Amber colour minimal head. Nice carbonation though. Aroma is malty caramel, fairly one dimensional but pleasant nevertheless. The taste is medium sweet and very light bitter with a dry balanced quality, maybe a touch nutty. Good ale.

Cask pint in Wellington, Shropshire on 16th July 2016. Golden body, clear, and clean, decent creamy white head. Malt front to the aroma and taste but fairly bland and uninteresting really, a nothing blend with the hop content hardly noticeable.

Enjoyed: Poured from a bottle into a mug. Appearance: Vivid dark yellow/amber/orange colour; rich long-lived dirty-white foam. Aroma: Hops, flowers, caramel. Palate: Thin, watery body; low carbonation. Taste: First taste is bitter, than sweet for a moment and then very bitter. Hint of caramel. Overall impression: Quite good, but I expected more. Subtle sense of alcohol.

Morland Old Speckled Hen (Cask)
Tap (hand pump) pint. Not a huge aroma, light toffee. Amber colour with a very tightly packed head (similar to nitro) and excellent lacing all the way to the end. Nice to watch it being pulled and then having to settle for over a minute. Taste was very mild but went perfectly with the meal as it didn’t overwhelm. Malty, slight toffee sweet minimal bitterness - exceptionally smooth. Nice creamy mouthfeel, and short palate - not clean and crisp, but not lingering either. Overall better than the bottle and cask is superior to the normal tap too. Really nice easy drinking, for a relaxed cool (but not cold) weather day.

I don’t know the history behind this beer and maybe at some point in time it was considered hoppy but it barely even passes for a bitter in the present day. Very weak hop AND malt aromas. This is really just a step above a typical pale lager. Not really much to say here.............some very light biscuit and caramel malt flavor I suppose.

Morland Hen’s Tooth
Normally like all Moreland ale but was disappointed with Hen’s tooth. Brewed by Greene King I thought it tasted closer to a Greene King type ale then a Moreland, The ale is strong but lacked character to me, found it very average & forgettable, much prefer an Old Speckled Hen any day of the week to this.

Enjoyable full bodied dark ale which packs a punch. One of Greene Kings best efforts I’ve tried. Found this ale well balanced and tasted every bit as strong as the 6% strength stated on the bottle, very nice.

Aroma of pine, grass, lemon, herbs. Pours golden orange with a small white head. Has a ashy bitterness that is terrible and very present. The malt sweetness seems a bit weird too. The dry, ashy finish is the sinner though. Medium body, average carbonation and very unpleasant finish. Unable to finish my glass.

Pours clear copper color with very visible carbonation. Small, short lasting, foamy looking white head. Nose is yeast, malts, slight caramel and a bit herbal. Medium body with regular carbonation. Silky, oily texture. Mildly bitter. Aroma of malts, yeast, caramel, herbs, spices. Woody aftertaste. Short and dry finish with subtle bitterness. Overall, good beer. Nothing outstanding but nothing wrong with it either. Refreshing.

Pours golden, clear. Head quickly dissipates leaving a thin film. Slightly pine hops aroma. Flavor goes from being strongly floral to suddenly being ashy/malty. That’s kind of unexpected. Not sure if that’s a good thing.

Bottle appeared one winter few years ago at a local Konzum store in Zagreb. Shared with Marko. Amber, diminishing whiter head. Dominating malty aromas. Strong caramel in the beginning, dry fruits. Light, some hops in the finish, dry aftertaste. This could be much better.
