Aroma is toasted malt with woody, herbal notes. Oily texture bordering on creamy, soft carbonation, medium body and a lingering, roasted finish. Flavour is roasted with a degree of ascerbicity. Rustic.

Barbarian 174 IPA 3.6
Had from a bottle, in a mall in Miraflores, Lima. My wife bought me this beer because we were at a mall, and I was grumpy. For the record, she wasn’t even shopping. This is just a mall built on a cliff face by the ocean, which is cool, but it is still a mall. Overall, I really liked this beer. It took the edge off of being a tourist, and was a pleasant throw back to the IPAs of the early 2000’s. Malty, citrusy, a bit oxidized. Balanced bitterness.

Bottle, courtesy of Meilby’s mom. Close to black in the glass, with a dense, finger-thick dark beige head leaving lacing. The aroma is rather roasted, with caramel sauce notes, Coffee too. It’s dry and full- to medium-bodied, softly carbonated and quite dry. Roasted malts, coffee, some caramel and bread crust and a nice hoppy bitterness in the flavor. Bottle, courtesy of Meilby’s mom. A hazy copper colored beer topped by a dense, finger-thick beige head pulling down curtains. The aroma is rather neutral, with some bready caramel notes and a certain fruityness. Much less yeasty than the other ones I’ve had from this brewery. Still some though. Soft bitterness in the mouth, with orange zest and pine cones. A malty touch in the back. Long bready and hoppy finish. A decent one that drinks easy. 151124

Barbarian La Nena Hoppy Wheat 2.3
Bottle, courtesy of meilby’s mom. An unclear orange colored beer topped by a dense, finger-thick off-white head that lasts and leaves some lacing. There’s some chalky yeastyness in the aroma, with oranges, some faint banana and a touch of lemon and pale malts. It’s almost equally yeasty on the palate, rather effervescent, dry, and with flavors of pale malts in the back. Orange zest and a touch of lemon in the flavor, lasting for a good while. Too yeasty this one, but there’s some nice things in the back. 151124

Barbarian Lima Pale Ale 3.7
Szép sötétsárga, kevés bézs habbal. Illata már elsőre meghódít, simcoe! Úgy látom szűretlen. Vajkaramelles, zöld jegyek keverednek a fenti favorit komlóval. Vékony száraz, karbonátos és hamus utóízzel. Úgy érzem a hidegkomlózásnál erős zöldíz alakult k, aúúi. Kár érte. Erősen keserű talán túlságosan is a Pale Alehez képest. Összességében nekem olyan kezdő kézműves sörfőzde benyomásom van. Közepes...

Bootle from Vivanda supermarket. Miraflores. Dark walnut brown. Coffe and chocolate on the aroma and flavour, with a rather herbal bitterness. Thin bodied, a nice alternative from the usual lagers. I stll think they should make a sweet one, based on Inka Cola.

Barbarian 174 IPA 3.6
Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Riley and Colin. Pours clear gold with a frothy white head. Nice citrus hop nose, tangerine, some rind, pale bread. Light sweet flavor with some lightly tangy lemon and tangerine, a bit of pine needles, orange rind. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Decent balanced on the finish, some pithy citrus, light pale malt sweetness. Nothing wrong here. Good work, Peru.

Bottle thanks to Colin. It pours murky Amber with minimal head. The nose is sweet, orange marmalade, candy, sherbet and juicy fruits. Barbarian 174 IPA 2.8
Bottle brought from Lima. The beer presents a Light body for an IPA with a nice dark amber colour. It smells slightly hoppy and fruity, more like an English Pale Ale than an american IPA. Surprising for a Peruvian beer though. Refreshing and an interesting aftertaste, balancing its components.

Bottle @ Incontri, Aguas Calientes. Pours amber with an off white head. Nutty, fruity and malt aromas and flavours. I hope to get a taste of the draught version, that one seems better. This, quite a disappoitment after my big expectations.

Barbarian Lima Pale Ale 3.4
Bottle at home, split with Rilester - cheers for hauling this back from Peru, 18/10/14. Very lightly hazed golden with a decent off white covering that dissipates then retains. Nose is bitter citric peel, lightly skunked hop tones, pale malt, straw, bitter orange. Taste comprises grassy notes, more subtle skunky hops, light smoke, touch of pine, orange pith, toasted malt, citric rinds. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a bitter hop rinse. Not too shabby, I imagine a Peru country tick 2 or 3 years ago would not have yielded anything near as good as this !!!

Barbarian Red Ale 3.3
this should be 2 ratings - 1 for the tap version and 1 for the bottled. Barbarian is not a great bottler. here I will only address the draft at Cańas y Tapas in Miraflores. For the bottled - widely available - subtract 15% across the board. Pours a rich red with a nice clean malty / nutty aroma. Solid head with a pleasant haziness. Nice malt / bitter balance, clean and light flavor, an solid, drinkable red in a country with almost nothing to compete with it.

Barbarian Lima Pale Ale 3.6
Only tried on tap at Cańas y Tapas, but Barbarian is not a great bottler so i suspect that its much better on tap. Nice floral citrus aroma, not complicated. Golden color, average head. Clean fruity/floral flavor, light palate with a thin texture. A pleasant and not over bitter draft, easy and enjoyable to drink.

Barbarian Lima Pale Ale 3.3
Best beer in Peru. The aroma is excellent: prominent hops, simple two hop base which lets each variety shine. Grapefruit, moss, just plain hop delight. Mouthfeel is, however, extremely watery, and the carbonation is far too light on this one. Problem. Taste is hops, quite dry, finishing with medium bitterness. Overall, a good beer!
