On tap @ Drakes. Cloudy golden orange beer with a white head. Big time tropical fruits with notes of mango and pineapple. Nice grapefruit, orange, and pine, too. Solid boost juice, for sure. Thereís a good bit of white grape, some melon, and a bitter pine finish. Moderate sweetness but not overly so. Nice citric qualities. Good stuff.

Drakes IPA

Aroma:
Medium/heavy aroma of malts, caramel, tea, orange, tropical fruit, pine, hops and citrus.

Appearance:
Hazy/turbid golden/amber beer with a slight/medium white/off-white head.

Taste/Palate:
Starts medium sweet with malts, caramel, orange, tropical fruit and pine; ends slightly bitter and dry with tea, hops and citrus.

Overall:
This beer might not be really intense or complex, but has depth and is balanced with interesting flavours. The earthy malts bring a nice tea flavour to it all.

Drakes Hopocalypse Blood Orange Imperial IPA (Red Label)
22 oz. bomber. 7 days from the bottling date. It pours an ultra clear orange color with a creamy off white head. The aroma is juicy with lots of orange, touches of mango, fruit candies and light florals. The flavor is full with biscuits, caramel, fruit candies, orange with hints of spicy/floral hops in the finish. The orange character is subdued and possibly covered over by some pretty strong maltiness. Very fresh and clean tasting though. Ok overall.

Drakes The Colonel
On tap at the Barrel House. It pours a clear, rich amber color with no head. The aroma is big and fruity with caramel and bourbon. Plum, raisin, fruit cake, caramel and vanilla. Traces of mint. The flavor is super sweet with brown sugar, sugar plum, mint and caramel. The mint is a little stronger than in the aroma, but still in the background. Sugary candy-like sweetness. The alcohol is strong, but not oppressively considering this is a 14% beer. Oily on the palate with low carbonation. Too sweet for me, but it could work as a dessert sipper.

Drakes Tears of A Sisserone
On tap at the Barrel House. It pours a clear, light gold color with no head. The aroma has black tea and mint. Light hints of fusel alcohols. Mostly mint. Very strong. The flavor has more of the black tea up front followed by mint toothpaste. The corn-like sweetness is covered up pretty well, but it comes through a little in the background. No fusels in the flavor, but thatís also possibly covered over by all the tea and mint. It has a full, oily body with low to moderate carbonation. Weird.

Drakes Oyster Pirates
On tap at the Barrel House. It pours a dark brown color with some orange highlights and a light orange/tan creamy head. The aroma is very sweet with cola and cocoa. A little smoke and earthiness in the background. The flavor is sweet to start with more cola and some denser notes of spicy rye malt, smoke and a lightly briny finish. Really just a hint of salt with the smoke and roasted malts. It becomes more rich and complex toward the finish after the initial sweetness. It has a medium to full oily body. Good.

On tap at the Barrel House. It pours a mostly clear pale yellow color with a small, fizzy white head. The aroma has big lemon and kiwi notes with a slight hint of melon. Mouthwatering. The flavor is clean with more kiwi, watermelon, and lemon. Light, fizzy carbonation. Some seltzer water impressions, but it finishes with good salty, fruity flavor. Very refreshing. Love it.

Drakes Barley Wine Bourbon Barrel
Bottle, drunk 4/23/16.
Another sad casualty of my great desire to cellar everything. Thankfully these masterfully brewed/produced beers held up well and are still worth drinking/rating.
Dark violet-tinged mahogany, with ample clarity and a deep beige head that fades to a ring.
Bourbon in the nose is quite reserved yet identifiable and enjoyable, providing spice and very light fruit. Figs, raisins, prunes and strong caramel are all behind it, with tons of vinous characteristics and a touch of sourdough. Oxidation, obviously present, isnít obnoxious, nor does it present any cardboard character, but mostly just soy and vanilla. Alcohol wonderfully integrate/concealed.
Marzipan, prunes, vanilla, toffee-caramel and light soy in the flavor allow just a touch of spicy bourbon, with a still-chewy texture and light carbonation. Grapes, figs, and more such flavors abound, with just a light sourdough-like sourness and sweet, fruit-laced caramel notes lingering. I can see why this beer was so acclaimed in its time. Obviously past its prime now, but the fact that itís still aged gracefully in these tiny bottles is a real testament. Furthermore, any problems with too much sweetness are very much gone.
