Drakes Pryed IPA
On tap @ Drakes. Straw colored beer with some white foam. The hop profile here is very heavy on the flowers, dried herbs, and wood. Itís got some baked apple sweetness, bread, and butterscotch as well, which is kind of atypical for Drakes on their hoppy beers. Moderate citrus aroma, flavor, and bitterness. Itís not a bad beer, necessarily, but it just doesnít do much for me. I guess I should have figured as it always seems like rye IPAs let me down.

Drakes Pretend Weíre Dead
On tap @ Drakes. Darker amber beer, maybe more of a cola color, with some off-white foam. Pretty decent roasted malt and burnt sugar qualities here. Thereís a lot of molasses, some coffee, and just a hint of chocolate. I get a pretty nice sweetness here, too. Light to moderate bitterness from those roast components, but has a nice sweetness of caramel, toffee, and hazelnut. Smokey lapsang tea notes and just a hint of leather as it warms up a bit.

Drakes Triplicity Vol. 9
On tap @ Drakes. Another beer in the Triplicity series. Never a bad thing. Pretty much clear golden-orange beer with a soapy white head. This one is perhaps a little too bitter for me as it has a fair amount of oily grapefruit and resinous pine, but itís an intensely aromatic and fragrant beer as well. Pretty minimal malt content, which Drakes is usually good about, though there is a bit of caramel. Some subtle tropical fruits, plenty of citrus, and a piney finish. Fine enough offering.

Drakes Wandering íPossum
On tap @ Drakes. Clear golden straw beer with a white head. Has some of those typical Cascade notes like grapefruit, orange, and aromatic floral notes. Has a little bit more of a general fruity quality than I would expect from Cascade though. Notes of white peach, white grape, and perhaps melon. Pretty dry beer with just a touch of toasted grains. Moderate bitterness. Pretty easy drinking in general.

Drakes 8 x 80 DIPA with Passion Fruit
On tap @ Drakes. Sort of an ugly beer...muddy orange-ish color with some white foam. Donít remember the original/base being this ugly... Anyway, huge grapefruit, pine, and weed on the nose. The tartness and moderate sweetness of passion fruit (and tropical fruits in general) come through. Some tangy grape, melon, and citrus, too. Nice mild bitterness and a relatively restrained malt character, too. Pretty solid beer.

Drakes Breakfast Can Wait
On tap @ Drakes. Dark brown colored beer with a finger of khaki foam. More just sweet than anything. Brown sugar, caramel, toffee, and some maple syrup. Hints of chocolate as well. Has somewhat of a fruity, perhaps estery, character of raisin, plum, and black cherry. Some molasses stickiness, too. This doesnít really have much going on other than the sweetness and itís fine in a small dose, but itís not really my thing.

3.5
Drakes IPA
355ml bottle. Clear, orangey golden colour with average to huge, thick, creamy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Floral hoppy aroma, hints of chamomile, lavender, idunno, a touch of liquorice as well. Taste is bitter hoppy, slightly floral, some liquorice, biscuity malty basis with a crakcer touch; throttled lively carbonation. Nothing spectacular, but flawless, clean and crisp.

Drakes Session Saison
On tap @ Drakes. Cloudy orange beer with a thin white head. Has a lot of pear and cooked apple. Some banana, bread, and cracker. I get a fair bit of lemon peel as well. Subtle tartness and yeast. Maybe a touch of white grape. Kind of sweet for my tastes...would prefer if this was drier. The ester profile becomes a bit much as it warms up as well.

Drakes Junior Mint
On tap @ Drakes. Black in color with a khaki head. Pretty nice beer and really lives up to its name. A lot of mint, some mild chocolate, and a bit of roast. Perhaps a hint of coffee as well. Mint is there but isnít overwhelming or anything. Pretty easy drinking, actually. Probably because although the mint is the dominant flavor, itís relatively mild and in check.

Drakes Triplicity Vol. 8
On tap @ Drakes. Clear orange colored beer with a nice white head and some sticky lacing. Hop character at first is pretty floral but has a good bit of fresh grass and some pine, too. Tons of orange zest and oily citrus all around as I give it another sniff. The citrus really starts to take over. Kind of on the bitter and dry side, as many Drakes IPAs are. Not overbearing, though. Still has a decent malt base and body to it. Maybe isnít quite as impressive flavor-wise as it is on the aroma.

Drakes Triplicity Vol. 8 with Guava
On tap @ Drakes. Cloudy orange with a weight head. Juicy fruit gum. Gummy bears on the nose. A lot of tangy fruit, some grass, and pine. Drakes Duck Puppy
On tap @ Drakes. Pretty dark brown in color with some murk and a thin off-white head. A rather intense beer with a whole lot of whiskey, oak, chocolate, vanilla, and sweet dark sugars. Huge caramel in particular and plenty of raisin, plum, and black cherry. Has a slightly bitter molasses note to it, too. A touch of booze, but surprisingly kind of restrained, despite a definite whiskey character.

A very good and interesting beer, quite spicy and warming on the way down. Pours a very nice deep black/red with a tan head. Smells of whiskey, rye, cocoa and chilis. Taste is whisky to start, followed by cocoa and chilis, with a spicy finish. Had on tap at the brewery.

Super high hopes for any Drakeís hoppy beer. This was pretty good, but didnít quite match up with a couple Iíve had before like Alpha or post hopocalypse. The stone fruit and tangerine is right on, but itís pretty mellow, especially in the flavor. Solid, just not great as expected.

Drakes Hopocalypse Blood Orange Imperial IPA (Red Label)
Tap at SIBF16. Dark golden pour. Robust citrus hop punch on the nose. Flavor really brings that blood orange forward, which blends nicely with the hops. Really significant hop contingent thatís pulled back just enough by the fruit. Like this one!

Hazy amber. Very orangey nose, with some grapefruity hop. Bitterness is high, not a lot of nuance, just orangey fruitiness. Malts are sweet, sticky...again not much nuance.

Drakes Hopocalypse Blood Orange Imperial IPA (Red Label)
Aromas of fresh hops, oranges, tangerine, caramel, honey and bready malts. Pours bright orange with a lively head and lace. Taste brings incredibly fresh orange juice, tangerine, apricot, citrus, orange peel, stone fruit and papaya upfront. Noticeable bread, caramel, honey and biscuit grain malt. Finishes with a clean bitterness and masked booze. Overall, very fresh with bright orange character.

Drakes Drakonic (Sherry Barrel)
On tap at the Barrel House. It pours a dark brown color with a brown head. The aroma is full with rich fruity sherry. Raisins, cherry syrup, wood molasses and hints of cocoa. Sweet smelling, but pretty complex range. The flavor is super rich with more molasses, raisins and wood. Not too sweet, but extremely thick in viscosity. Lots of wood in the finish with more molasses and hints of roasted malt. The alcohol is noticed, but in a warming, pleasant way. No solvent. This one had some good flavors going on and thankfully, wasnít a sugar or booze bomb. Still a bit hard to drink simply because of the heaviness.

Drakes Pretend Weíre Dead
On tap at the Barrel House. It pours a very dark brown color with some red highlights and a light tan head. The aroma has strong roasted malt, a little coffee and a cream soda sweetness to it. Drakes Pryed IPA
On tap at Drakes. It pours a light golden yellow color with a white head. The aroma is a little biscuity and floral with a touch of butter. The flavor is dense with bready rye malt. Strong floral and spicy hops. Some orange and grapefruit. Hints of buttered bread in the finish. It has a very oily mouthfeel and is kinda full bodied, but remains snappy on the palate due to a mostly pale malt profile other than the rye. Just ok. The butter kind of kills it for me.

Drakes Hopocalypse Blood Orange Imperial IPA (Red Label)
22 oz. bottle, pours a cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of blood oranges upfront, followed by some resinous hops and a big caramel malt -- but the oranges are huge on this. Flavour is cloyingly sweet and dominated by the oranges -- followed by like resinous hops and sweet caramel. The oranges ruin this for me. Way too sweet and fruity. Not my thing.

What a treat to drink. Rich quad that I suspect would have been wonderful on its own--sweet, dates, raisin--and then a big load of whisky. Dimensionality and sippability, with a very muted level of alcohol. Interesting and excellent. Highly recommended. Bottle purchased at City Beer.
