Bottle: The appearance was a cloudy orange amber with one finger of head poured into a shaker glass. It left a fair amount of lace along the edges as the head dissipated. The aroma was faintly fruity and the flavor was of apricots and earth tones. Overall, not what I was expecting.

Pours a dark brown with no head at all from this bottle. Aroma is peanut butter/roasted peanuts, very nice. The taste cold, right out of the fridge, was exactly like the aroma with no noticeable alcohol coming through. Medium body. The only difference in the taste as I let the beer warm was the alcohol started to show itself. Not in a bad way, it just kind of warms the throat and stomach. I expected this beer to be very thick, cloyingly sweet, and very boozy but it was none of those things. I thoroughly enjoyed this beer and will be definitely buying more.

Bottled. Pours a dark brown, clear, with a thin head. Big aroma of peanut butter and booze. Roasted peanut and chocolate syrup, with a lot of booze. Really yummy, finishes a bit thin and hot.

Big thanks to reggie dunlap for this monstrosity of a rare beer! 12% wew! Does have the aroma of peanut butter fer sure. From a bottle it pours like a thicker dark brown liquid. Booo-zeee is an understatement. Quite a concoction, wew.. Although you would not think its 12%, it certainly is alky on your lips, alky in your face, alky down the gullet, and finally its alky kick in the abdomen. Not sure what to think of this stuff, did I say wew yet? Becomes a little brain numbing near the end of the session. Undoubtedly one of the biggest porters I’ve the pleasure of tasting. WEW Not for the meek at heart. Big alcohol laced finish, but I must say, this is a little smoother than most rude beers of this ABV. Look, I’m not one for higher alky beers but this was a little more acceptable than most beers over 10%. Not cloying as with most and it did have a fair amount of co2 that made this somewhat palatable.

On tap. Pours a dark, but not opaque, brown. Smells of heavy, roasted peanuts. Hits the tounge with a bit of bitter, moving to sweet in the middle. Goes a bit tangy and very smooth on the end. Not as "oily" as other peanut butter beer I’ve had. Very good.

Pours an opaque brown with a thin tan head. Aroma has some nutty peanut butter atop bourbon, caramel, and tootsie roll chocolate. Flavor loses the PB quite a bit...just a little nutty...light chocolate and mild bourbon...a bit chalky and cheap tasting but hides the big ABV well. Mouthfeel is light/medium and the finish is slightly bourbony.

Bottle from trade with soonerchamps. Pours very dark brown with a very small head that quickly fades to a ring. Aroma is a good peanut butter and caramel mix with some light roast. Taste is great. Moderate sweetness up front with lots of caramel and then the peanut butter flavor builds through the finish. Nice underlying roasted malt throughout. Smooth finish with a very light booziness. Cannot believe this is 12%, drinks like its 6-7%. Not only was this an Alabama tick but one of the best peanut butter beers I’ve had too. Thanks Matt!

Wow its like eating carmel popcorn. That is what this beer is. Aroma is carmel popcorn, taste is carmel popcorn No head at first out of bomber.. but it keeps givigng for a thin ring. Mouthfeel is a bit to much carbonation for this beer. To sweet to much carmel corn for me. I got no bourbon at all from this. WT.... nevermind. Actually did this go bad?

pours a somewhat clear brown with a medium tan head. aroma has nice peanut buttery notes...not a ton...gets overshadowed with roastiness and mild booziness. flavor is roasty and nutty with light burnt bitterness and PB creeping in...some caramely notes and slight booziness...even some chocolate. mouthfeel is light/medium and a tad thin in the middle while the finish warms and lingers with dark chocolate and slight PB.

Bottle poured into a tulip glass, pours golden with a small white head, quickly disappears leaving little lacing. Nose is citrus, soap, pine. Taste is also soapy and slightly bitter. Goes down pretty smooth. This beer is something between pale ale and IPA, good though. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft. Poured pinkish with a light pink head. Aroma and flavor were slightly tart, mildly sweet, generically berry. A bit acidic, oddly thin. I didn’t pick up the basil. Light mouthfeel.

22oz bomber released Sept 2013. Pours dark brown with a 1" white head, nice lacing around the glass. Nose is chocolate, peanut butter, caramel, not a lot of bourbon. You can really pick up bourbon in the taste...WOW this is so good. The non BA version is a sweet dessert beer, the barrel aging really tones down the sweetness, smooths out the beer, and brings out a little more alcohol burn. I must say, this is by far my favorite Alabama brewed beer so far. Fantastic!

What: Bourbon Barrel Aged Peanut Butter Porter ABV: 12% Appearance: opaque dark brown Smell: peanut butter, dark chocolate. Almost no bourbon. Taste: here’s the bourbon. Lashings of it. Peanut butter is almost absent. Mid-palate woody bitterness. A gentle brown sugar presents in the after-taste. There are complexities in the flavour that keep on coming.. quite fascinating. Overall: very interesting stuff. Not something you’d want to have a lot of, but about 8 to 10 oz with a nice cheesecake would be the perfect dessert combo.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. 12% ABV version released in August 2013. Pours dark brown with a small white head that fades quickly. Minimal lacing around the glass. Nose is very nutty, peanut, hazelnut, very rich. Taste is similar, somewhat sweet...a desert beer. Not much alcohol burn for 12% ABV. My biggest complaint for this beer is the thin mouthfeel. I expected a porter to be a much thicker beer. Good stuff though!

Bottle pour. Golden orange color, not much head. Light hop aroma, slightly sweet. Taste is mildly hoppy balanced by some malty sweetness. I’m not a hop head and this is a very nice beer. Nice taste.

Pours a nice amber with a fairly thick pale tan head. Strongly hoppy aroma has fruity and dusty malty undertones. Seriously hoppy flavor has strong malty and fruity supporting notes. Firm mouthfeel is hoppy and fizzy, quite pleasing. These folks have engineered a great IPA - any of them Georgia Tech graduates?

Got to try this one out during Bards & Brews at the Avondale Library over the weekend. Mellowed peanut butter flavor, not at all cloying. Goes down smoothly and makes a proper dessert beer.

7/27/13. On tap at Vintage at Fairhope. Amber pour with a small fluffy head. Overly sweet aroma and flavor, way too malty. I’m thinking it’s a touch old.

Bottle poured light copper with small white head that disappeared quickly. Mostly malt aroma with hints of caramel. Light herbal hop aroma. Tastes about the same mostly malty sweet, with a grain flavor. Little citrus hop flavor, good bitterness. Tastes very similar to chilled IPA wort right out of the kettle.

This is my second encounter with the lead belly peanut butter porter, and I’m much more pleased with this new batch. The taste of peanut butter is much more subdued in this new edition as compared to the first batch, making it much more drinkable--albeit still on the dessert beer side. Color is a deep red, minimal head off the tap, palate is very full and serves to hide the alcohol. Aftertaste with a hint of smoke. Great mouthfeel. I’d recommend trying.

Interesting. On tap at a local brewfest. The ABV was not apparent like I expected..was very subdued. The nose has the peanut butter but it was more hidden (a good thing) on the taste. It had just enough sweetness to balance the style and wasn’t cloying as some beers this strong tend to be. It’s unique and absolutely worth trying.
