Lavender hits first, before an almost cinnamon-like spice. Mulled cider. Sunflower honey offers a spicy note that offsets the flowers. Nice interplay, becomes almost herbal in the flavor, reminding of spicy rosemary or anise. Dark amber honey. A little alcohol warmth, lingering tea-like quality. Dry finish.

Thick, tasting coffee more than rum. a lot of sweetness. Hops are gone, if ever significant. Wood in the finish. Nutmeg? Maybe at the finish. Bigger mouthfeel.

Small portion of a 10 oz. pour, on tap at the brewery’s taproom in Nordeast Minneapolis, Minnesota. Consumed on 1-21-16. Pours a lightly hazy, dark gold with beige head. I really smell that Lactobacillus. Cinnamon spiciness and spoiled milk in the sour aroma. Nice, subtle sourness in the taste. Mineral flavor. Apple and leather elements. Light body. Frothy in the palate. Insubstantial palate effects. Not the best sour and somewhat too subtle for my liking but not bad.

Indeed Let It Roll IPA 3.7
Majority of 10 oz. pour, on tap at the brewery’s taproom in Nordeast Minneapolis, Minnesota. Consumed on 1-21-16. Pours a dark copper/amber. Nice color. Clear liquid. Beige head. Scents of mango, grapefruit, malted milk balls, and dirt. Nice, dry flavor. Citric taste: Lemon, grapefruit. Well toasted bread and fruit. Seems to be a red IPA, and I often like that style. Impressive flavor. Soft and lively in the palate. Medium body. Pretty darn good beer.

Tap at Indeed, and another excellent sour from these guys. They are finding their niche here in Mpls, and until Oude Oak comes online, these guys are right there with Fair State in leading the way in sours locally. This is a very slightly hazy orange pour with a small dense white head. Melon, some pine resin, and some fresh somewhat sour citrus blanketing the whole thing. Tremendously drinkable. Approachable enough for the sour newbie, and nuanced enough for the discriminating beer geek. Wonderful beer. And in honor of 2Pac day, which is fast approaching, this Lucy is pretty good, whoever the fuck she is.

Tap at Indeed. I rather dig this. Mostly clear yellow pour with a smaller soapy head. Mild Brett, some funk, apple skin, everything seems to play together nicely.

12 oz can. My 100th rated American Pale Ale! Hazy orange brown with a smooth head. Nose is pine, toffee, marmalade and slight musk. Resiny medium body with soft carb and a hoppy bite. Taste is citrus peel, grapefruit and peach. If this was local to me I would put in my regular rotation.

Indeed Wooden Soul #5: Apple Juice Saison 3.4
750ml growler courtesy of deyholla. Thanks, bro. Pours a gently hazed golden orange huye, a bit lighter with fiery orange catching the middle with golden edges. Frothy whitish head atop stays as a subtle layer with a thicker ring that laces ok. Aromas are a bit odd, fleshy appleskin and gentle sweetness, funk and yogurt. More cobwebs, dust and dry straw, gentle wood and tannic appeal. Spiciness, tapering fruity ester of banana, pear and melon. A bit metallic, dry and funky with that fruity appeal coming in more as it settles. Initial tart and apple driven, dry and a bit cidery with some juice like elements into the middle. That middling bretty funk comes on and does some work, dry and dusty with cobwebs, rustic grain and mellow fruit. Subtle yogurt and tartness, a bit more tart apple cider appeal, horseblanket and more dust. That bretty life creeps up into the backend and finish, adding complexity and matching some gentle tannic woody appeal. Subtle vanilla, dry and funky as we finish up. That cidery element from the nose and front tapers off to a more bretty and woody dry finish. A touch of bandaid at times but overall this drinks well enough, perhaps a touch too much brett and farmhouse appeal but the apple elements are fairly enjoyable. A solid nose and pour, ok flavors and flow but a bit of an odd funk profile at times in my opinion. Ok.

Indeed Wooden Soul #4: Grapefruit Sour Ale 3.9
750ml growler courtesy of deyholla. Thanks as always, d. Excited for this bad boy. Pours a dulled mellow hazed golden amber hue. A shiny harvest glow is bright and summery, frothy whitish head atop is creamy, a thicker ringer and mellow film sticks around atop and laces nicely. Aromas present nice tart and bitter grapefruit liveliness. Punchy lactic appeal is lemony, yogurty, citric and slightly acidic. Some gentle grainy malts fall behind with more straw, dry grains and more yogurty sour lactic punch. The grapefruit is fairly fresh and drives pretty nicely, subtle brett and softer woody appeal as it settles. Initial is bitter and pithy, grapefruit pulp and rind combine with some firmer lactic twang. Yogurt, cobwebs, bitter rind oils and zest meet tart punchy juice, bitter and sour. Lighter body, melow allows a decent lactic kick to swell beneath but the grapefruit addition is what does the work on the palate. Zesty bitter rind, pithy dry appeal and that juice element, tart and a bit spritzy and bitter as we work through. The lactic elements aren’t as potent, or perhaps better integrated overall, as compared to that more yogurty and acidic leaning nose that cuts through the grapefruit addition. Backend and finish are dry, light, jabs of soft wood and a bit fruity with lingering tart and bitter fruit. A bit bubbly and spritzy, tart and quite crushable overall. Delicious stuff that goes down easy. A touch dry, some cobwebs and tart, bitter grapefruit sustain. Nice stuff, really nice.

Indeed Let It Roll IPA 3.8
Pours a murky reddish brown with suspended sediment, good tan head and great spotty lacing. Aroma is fresh with pine, fruit, somewhat dank with mild caramel sweetness. Taste is toffee malt, herbal, fruity, hop bitterness saving the day from this IPA getting too off course. A bit of rye spiciness to the flavor profile. It’s different, assertive, grainy palate. Nothing outstanding in any aspect, but it all kind of works together. A very nice rye / darker IPA.

12 oz. pour, on tap at The Ox (the secondary taproom at the brewery in Minneapolis, Minnesota). Consumed on 12-18-15. Pours a hazy, light blond with a small amount of beige head. Pleasant, tart, Brett smell. Fruity, likable aroma. Nice, fresh, tart taste of young Brettanomyces. A bit of apple juice / apple cider in flavor. Also a bit chemical. Lively and refreshing in the palate. Light to medium body. Overall, a quite nice and likable beer that satisfies and refreshes. Well done, Indeed.

Indeed Sweet Yamma Jamma Ale 3.6
12 ounce can into pint glass, best before 1/13/2016. Pours slightly hazy deep orange/copper color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of sweet potato, caramel, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, gingerbread, toasted biscuit, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and yam/spice notes with solid strength. Taste of sweet potato, caramel, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, gingerbread, toasted biscuit, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/spice bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of sweet potato, caramel, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, gingerbread, toasted biscuit, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Good balance, complexity, and solid robustness of dark/bready malt and yam/spice flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitterness and carbonation. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly creamy/bready/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is a good spiced amber ale style. All around good balance, complexity, and solid robustness of dark/bready malt and yam/spice flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

First WS beer and it doesn’t disappoint. A clear pour, not a ton of funk but it’s there, and a nice tart lemon/grapefruit flavor. Palate leaves a bit of a bitter finish from the grapefruit but overall it’s really nice, has some oak and hay going on, and drinks easy.

Indeed Let It Roll IPA 2.9
Can. Pours a clear dark copper body under a one inch foamy beige head. The nose is pretty heavy on the brown sugar-like crystal malt, with a fairly light citrusy hoppiness. Not the the kind of aroma that I’m looking for in an IPA. The flavor is much the same, really heavy crystal malt sweetness up front, so much that it’s hard to taste the hops at all at first. Light to moderate bitterness, with a lingering grainy and sweet finish. Medium bodied with fizzy carbonation. Probably my least favorite from Indeed that I’ve had thus far. Crystal malt sweetness ruins all, especially in an IPA.
