Holy crap, this stuff is terrible. Cloyingly sweet, no "funk" whatsoever and zero hops. Nasty. Mad that I decided to try it.

Foam exploded over the top of the bottle when I opened this up. Not a good sign? Once I waited for the gigantic head to subside, appeared hazy orange/brown in the glass. Aroma is funky, yeasty fruit-- I get apple as the dominant note. Also a hint of cleaning solution (?). Taste is sweet. Medium bodied. Booze comes through on the finish. Feels unbalanced. Not as terrible as everyone here seems to think, but I wouldnít choose it again.

I forgot this brewery contracts at Minhas. Until I tasted it. This is some skanky sweet bullshit. It tastes like a year old 1999 APA, which it is to say it tastes like a slightly bitter admixture of Malta Goya and damp cardboard. As far as Iím concerned, this beer can eat shit.

This was really hoppy, more so than I expected. The oat caramel taste got really lost through here. It was fairly smooth and easy drinking, but more of a hop beer.

12 oz. bottle from Chris - thanks again, Chris. Minhas! Wow, that makes sense. Pours a clear gold if you can keep the yeast floaters at the bottom from pouring in; I spotted them in the bottle, and left the last ounce or so in there. Small white head that settles into a wispy film and a ring. A metric shit ton of banana in the nose, with caramel and sweet bread, dried fruits like golden raisins and figs, phenols, a lot of sugar, and a bit of a metallic note. Medium-full bodied, with moderate carbonation and a really sweet and heavy mouthfeel. This oneís a load. 12 oz. is too much. 5.5% but drinks like double that level.

Aroma of sweet cherries, some caramel. Reddish amber color with a thin tan head. Sweet up front. Malty caramel, some cherry. Bitterness is light medium with notes of pepper. Finish is bitter with some oak notes. Balances sweetness pretty decently. Slight off flavor in the transition and in after taste. Lighter mouth feel, slightly watery.

This starts w/ the weird, gross over-ripe fruit smell all Minhas beers have and ends w/ a sort of earthy amber ale w/ a touch of roast character. Yeah, it is not exactly great. I guess it has a decent creamy texture if you can get past the taste and the smell but I canít imagine anyone wanting to do that. There might be some good brewers at Hopothesis but weíll never know until they change contractors or build their own brewery.

Bottle. Reddish brown color with a small tan head. Aroma is bubble gum sweetness and a bit of malt. Flavor is dark bitterness and a touch of caramel malt. Medium bodied with an herbal bitter finish and a touch of malt creaminess. Not bad but something just didnít seem to click for me with this one.

12 oz. bottle poured to a shaker at the bar in the Shoreline Restaurant in Gills Rock, WI.. Displayed a hazed, orangey gold hue, with some lingering fluffiness to the off white head foam, and spots of lacing. The nose was lightly dank & earthy, with soft esters. Light+ bodied, with fair carbonation, the taste was honey sweet, with low, earthy bitterness, and noticeable, buttery diacetyl. Didnít finish. Saison/farmhouse ale? Not enlightened.

Oh gracious this is made at Minhas?

Pours golden & perfectly clear with a loose small head that falls fairly quickly.

The aroma is sort of spicy with some lavender and metallic characteristics.... overall itís really not very aromatic.

The beer is lightly fruity with a mild minerallity. Itís pretty sweet and has a sort of sweet corn thing happening. The beer is spicy a little soapy... sort of tastes like apples. ugh.

The beer sits unnecessarily heavy on the palate but has a carbonation that provides a little liveliness. It leaves a real bad lingering sensation on the finish.

gracious

Bottled. Poured rich coppery orange with a swirly off-white head. The aroma picked up sweet molasses, maple, and buttered fruity notes with lightly-toasted earthy accents. The flavor found similar, with molasses and buttered malts leading.. some fruity tartness joined toward the back. Smooth and buttery through the palate.. just a hair too sweet, but it was tasty and very drinkable.

Pours a hazy chestnut brown with a brief head. Aroma is sweet - caramel and vanilla. Flavor follows - quite sweet to start, hops takes the edge off the sweet after the initial hit of sweet. Palate has the typical oatmeal texture. Overall its a bit too sweet for my palate, but it has some substance.

This pours an orange bodied brew with a scrawny bubbly head thatís little more than a film. It smells fruity, cherries with an apple slice, and has some burnt light brown sugar. Itís watery and the light flavor is mildly fruity with a soft earthy bitterness. The finish is watery. "Drafty Window" somehow fits.

If this is the future of cerebral drinking experiences maybe my policy of drinking and not thinking has been correct all along. Iím seriously doubting the claim of "years of research" that is on the bottle, or maybe instead of research you could use trial and error. Iím going to finish the six cause its 7.1% and that I paid 10 bucks for it, but Iím not going to like it. This may inspire to be more cerebral in my selection in beers I donít know, from now on if I see anything related to science on the label Iíll use kinesia to walk on by.

Right. This is an IPA. The 6-packís cardboard carrier claims that "the outcome is a refreshing, flavorful, and thought-provoking drinking experience." Okay. Whatís thought-provoking is, what is this all about? It looks just fine, golden bodied with a tall creamy head and thick lacing. The aroma isnít too bad, if mild, some citrus, some floral, an underlying sweetness. The flavor, though, is lacking substance beyond a pale malty sweetness; merely a suggestion of hops appears. There is a very mild bitterness to the finish (55 IBUs?), but that fades quickly. The sturdy alcohol content (7.1% ABV) remains well hidden, but if youíre looking for an IPA, keep looking.

12oz bottle, thanks to Caterwaul. Shared with b3shine. Mostly clear golden orange color. Thin off-white ring of head. Loose bits of lace. Quickly fades to nothing. Some metallic mustiness in the nose; bread. Light caramel malt, some butterscotch. Hints of mango. Some honey. Weird. Kind of musty and metallic. Lightly spicy. More dry finish. Smooth, kind of crisp, kind of soft lighter carbonation. A bit slick. Moderate sweet taste. Light to moderate bitter. Sort of musty, funky. Bit of skunk. Odd, and not in a good farmhouse way. In a skunky, old-beer macro kind of way. Over-sweet, and a bit sticky. Not a fan.

Bottle to snifter (shared by DrSilverworm). Looks solid; a transparent golden orange with thin white head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells solid too; honey with some notes of yeast. Definitely the best thing about this beer is its appearance. Nothing else, except the ABV reflects anything close to a traditional or even recognizable IPA. Almost no hops in the nose, very little in the taste, body is not bad except thereís some missing characteristics that the hops give to the mouth feel. And of course the finish sums all of this up. I can hardly imagine how a more forgettable beer could be made.

I guess itís a semi valiant effort at a saison. I can tell from the various aspects what theyíre trying to do, but just barely. Considering the breweryís history, I can imagine that this is an effort to make beer that is just good enough in the least expensive way - and it seems that way. Whether itís the aroma, the flavor, the appearance, body, or finish, they all have the suggestion of a saison, and nothing more. Not bad beer. Nor good.

Pours pretty much clear golden amber. Small fizzy semi creamy white head. Aroma is just indistinct sweetness, caramel and honey I guess, vague fruity.. Flavor has the same unappealing sweetness.
