Old Hill Virginia Wassail
Fairly cloudy golden and straw coloured body with a thinnish, very fast-dying (of course) pure white head that doesn't leave a trace. Aroma of very nice and intensely spiced components with allspice, canella, coriander seed, cloves and nutmeg all here - this smells like a nice mulling spiced hot apple cider (sans alcohol) from the season - very nice in the nose with a further hint of an acidic and tart apple as well. Light-bodied; Very strong fresh tart apple flavours show at first with a great bite of spice shortly thereafter with a nice kick of caramelised sugars and even some raisin notes near the end. Aftertaste is rich in terms of spice, complexity and range, especially for a cider, with enough tart and acidic apples to provide a strong balance with a lot of sugars and the slightest hint of alcohol at the very end - very nice throughout. Overall, a great cider, and perhaps one of the best I've had in a long time that is amazing for the season and well worth trying to find or grabbing a bunch of if you like ciders and it's around the best time of the year - Christmas! I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Costco in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia on 05-March-2021 for US$2,99 sampled at my house here in Washington a few blocks away on 18-April-2022.

16oz can, from Costco. Poured a hazy yellow color with a small fizzy head - didn't last. Aroma was big apples. Light spices on the nose. Flavor was pleasant winter spices. Decent stuff.

Old Hill Virginia Peach
Ever so slightly hazy golden and peach coloured body with a light orange and golden glow and almost no head at all during the pour, and after a few seconds, definitely no head, of course. Aroma of peaches, citrus, apples, alcohol and a lot of residual sugars from the fruits, but also from caster sugar and artificial peach candy. Light-bodied; Super peachy flavours dominate up front with a real peach bite, some slight sour and tart elements and a strong yeastie finish with some breadiness, but mostly a fairly straight-forward fruity cider with apples and definite peaches in the mix, in a good way. Aftertaste is crisp, clean, dry, very sweet and showing fresh peaches, but also some candy and deeper plum-type notes that give this a bit of range. Overall, a nice and robust cider with some nice flavours and a very clean and robust peach flavour that is real and fresh without a deep or astringent element from any artificial notes - another nice one, true to the name from Old Hill. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Costco in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia on 08-October-2020 for US$2,75 sampled at my house here in Washington on 27-February-2021, a few blocks away.

Old Hill Virginia Blackberry
Rating #8700! Beautiful, deep purple and strong indigo coloured body with a very thin off-white head that fades fast and just leaves a tiny lace up top. but the super strong and perhaps seventy per cent opaque purple body is very nice! Aroma of apples, yeast, light tart fruits and a small dose of spiced pears, but the blackerries and any berry scents overall with a light dose of the apples, but more sweetness than anything else. Light-bodied; Strong apple and yeast flavours dominate with a big spiced pear and vanilla note with a ton of crisp and dry canella and allspice notes with a tiny bit of nutmeg and some blackberries and tarter notes towards the end. Aftertaste shows some of the yeast and bready notes with a light dose of grass and floral notes with some syrup and honey flavours as well without much tartness and robust qualities. Overall, a nice and dry cider with a ton of sweetness, but mostly from honey and syrup with a light spice note but no real tart qualities nor anything from blackberries. Overall, a pretty nice and enjoyable fruity, spicey and robust cider with a beautiful look and a smooth complexity at the end from the yeast and bread moreso than the tartness or any berry flavours. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Costco in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia on 20-August-2020 for US$2,99 sampled at my house here in Washington, a few blocks away, on 21-January-2021 on the first full day of the Biden administration.

Old Hill Virginia Stawberry
Fairly hazy deep ruby and red coloured body with a crimson glow on top of a copper and deep bronze glow, all with an off-white head that fades very quickly. Aroma of strawberries, tart raspberries, apples, light yeast, bread, caster sugar and a dash of vinegar and acidity with a bitter pungency and a dash of alcohol. Light to Medium-bodied; Very strong strawberry flavours dominate with a lot of acidity and tart notes, but some sweetness from apples of course and a subtle herbal and grassy character, but this really is about the apples and especially the fresh, pungent strawberry flavours which are very nice and potent. Aftertaste shows the fresh fruit, sweetness, tart strawberries and a dash of acidity with some subtle bready and yeast notes, but this is very nice and surprisingly non-monolithic, in a great way. Overall, a very nice cider throughout and perhaps one of the best from Virginia that i've ever had - a great robust, very fresh strawberry flavours dominate throughout. Great to sample and a very nice option to grab if you like ciders or are trying to avoid glutens for some unknown reason. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Costco in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia on 11-June-2020 for US$1,99 sampled at my house here in Washington on 05-November-2020.

Pours an attractive light gold. This cider has a sweet, fresh smell of apple. With first taste, it is expected that this cider would be extremely sweet. However, it is mainly tart with sweet notes. The tartness lingers on the tongue.

Bottle from this quirky store we visited while traveling through Staunton, Va on the way to somewhere not as quaint & pretty. Tulip pour. Pours like a flat Heineken. Smells of stone fruit, acidy apples & lettuce. Very mild. Taste is of melon rind, white wine, stems & yeast. Tacky, runny feel. Moderately acidic, soft tannins, faintly sour & not at all tart. This is missing a big chunk of character right down the middle. Right now it just tastes & feels like mellow, watered down Church wine.

$7.99 660ml bottle from Wine Warehouse. It appears I've gotten my first cold of the season, so what better way to handle it than drinking? Plus, it's fruit, so vitamins... Pours rec, dusting of a head. I can still smell - tart apple, tart strawberry. Flavor is very strawberry - starts out almost like jam, but then gets tart. Green apple backbone. Not overly tart but not sweet. Nice.

Apple nose, quite rubbery at first, but it goes away as the cider breathes. Crystal clear gold, visible carbonation. Semi-dry initially, tangy apple briefly at midpalate, dry and phenolic finish. Light body, moderately carbonated, phenols give the impression of warmth, but alcohol isn’t that evident. Surprising amount of character, palatably dry.
