Southern Raised Bungalow - Cranberry
2/21/15. Growler during RBWG 2015. People are being way too kind on their ratings here. Big cheese and foot, definitely in a bad way, distracts from anything else in the aroma. Cheese and funk in the flavor as well, light tartness, lemon peel, standard doughy malt bill. Gross.

Southern West Side IPA
4oz draft @ Southern Brew. Fini reste cependant fort sec.

Southern Pacific Ring IPA
4oz draft @ Southern Brew. Note Galaxy, Mosaic et Centennial.

Southern Atonement Rye
4oz draft @ Southern Brew.

Southern Lip Service IPA
4oz draft @ Southern Brew.

Southern Not-Your-Heidi-Klum Blonde Ale
4oz draft @ Southern Brew.

Southern Raised Bungalow - Rhubarb
4oz draft @ Southern Brew.

Southern Raised Bungalow
I love this thing, seriously. It’s bright and citric and super refreshing. Large snifter pour at the store. Hazed canary yellow with a full white fluffed head that hangs for a bit before turning into a ring. Nose includes citrus and tart notes, some funkiness, tart lemony pucker and a little vanilla. Flavor is tart and super fruity, bright citrus flavors and a little pucker. Heavier than a typical Berliner, and coating on the mouth as well as the glass. Good lacing.

Southern Lip Service IPA
Flight pour of bright golden straw with white cap. Note is citrus, grapefruit and a little earthy grass note. Flavor follows with mild malts and almost pineapple or some similar fruit. Diacetyl? Tastes a little butterscotchy, and that’s surprising cause I’ve never had anything from them with that problem.

Pint pour of lighter honey with a proper white head. Nose is heavy hop with some heavy citrus notes... I say heavy citrus cause I can’t think of a different way to say it. It’s moderately malted as well. Flavor is zesty and heavy, full, plenty if hop character throughout. Fuller bodied for an IPA, but pretty solid. 210315

Southern Scotch Ale w/Red Pepper
Really interesting, in a completely good way. Large snifter pour of quite dark reddish-black with a lighter khaki head that hangs on. Aroma follows a typical scotch ale with caramel and sweeter malts with some notes of roast. As it opens up, an earthy aroma comes through, not so much notion of heat though. Flavor is where it shines, with vanilla and caramel melding together with darker sweet notes followed with a pleasant lingering heat that isn’t painful but rather nicely balanced against the sweetness. Pretty enjoyable medium to fuller body with medium lacing in the glass.

Southern Hopburst Calypso
Draft. Clear light amber with a white head. Hop-forward aroma is pine and cedar and citrus and pineapple with a growing stink of brie / old hops. Medium bodied, lightly sweet with strong bitterness. Its juicy and sharp and bitter and tangy in the mouth, malt is toasty and toffee-like and clean, as is fermentation, but the hops seem old and it only gets worse as it warms.

3.1
Southern White Out IPA
Draft. Cloudy yellow with a fine white head. Yeasty over hops in the aroma: banana and pear esters and clove are much like German Hefeweizen in character; hops are tropical and grassy with Nelson-like gooseberry / tropical / botrytis notes. Medium-light body, sweet with moderate bitterness, strong yeast acidity, fine carbonation, doughy and creamy in the mouth, slick and filmy finish. Pretty much your standard Wheat IPA but with a more interesting hop aroma.

3fourths
3.5
Southern Lip Service IPA
Draft at the brewery. Clear amber with a short white head. New world aroma hops are fruity and tropical with blueberry-gooseberry notes that remind of New Zealand strains. Malt is quietly toasty and clean, fermentation clean as well. Medium to light bodied, juicy and oily in the mouth, fine and frothy carbonation. Finishes with a small amount of pine and bubble gum with lasting blueberry-spice-pineapple hoppiness.

2.6
Southern Post-Prohibition Pilsner
Draft. Clear pale gold with a white head. Light bodied and lightly sweet with low bitterness. Aroma impression is simple pale malt / stale crackers with noticeable grain husks and notes of DMS (corn, cabbage, cement). As it warms it becomes less enjoyable, more of the raw huskiness showing itself and less of the faint lemon-herb hoppiness. Simple and dirty and difficult to get through a small glass.
