Garrison Grand Baltic Porter
Pretty astringent almost sour aroma, but the rest of this beer makes it so that really doesn’t matter.silky smooth, malty, very drinkable in a way that belies its 9.5% abv. Be careful with this one. Definitely a beer for malt lovers.

Growler. Straw yellow in colour with a bit of haze and moderate carbonation. Aromas are of Meyer lemon, lemongrass, and cream of wheat breakfast cereal. Fruity and herbal on the palate, with notes of lemon, coriander, marjoram, and malted wheat. Light bodied. Less spicy than some in this style, which is a good thing in my book.

Garrison Klingon Warnog Roggen
Appearance: clear medium to deep amber with one finger of medium-dense light beige head diminishing gradually to a thin cap, no lacing. (3/5) Aroma: caramel/toffee, dark fruit, banana, clove, light rye. (6/10) Taste: moderate-high sweet, mild bitter. (6/10) Medium body, moderate carbonation, short duration mildly bitter and slightly spicy/tart finish. (3/5) Dunno what makes this Klingon - there’s no bite, and no smoke. Next thing you’ll be telling me it’s not even made with the blood of my enemies! OK, cheesy marketing ploys aside, this is a pretty mediocre Roggen: there’s very little rye in this at all, coming through late and mild. On the front end, it’s somewhat too sweet for my preference, and overall it just seems like a mishmash of unrelated flavours. Easy-drinking, but just not very exciting. (12/20)

On tap at the brewery. End of the keg poured with a large pinkish-white head over a hazy pale copper body.thin body works ok with medium, high carbonation and the flavor profile. I would have dumped this if I was Garrison. Pours a clear darker gold with barely any head. Aroma is of ginger. Tastes is of medicinal ginger tea. The ginger isn’t refreshing, but an overwhelming terrible bitterness. It almost tastes rancid. It is highly undrinkable and a palate killer for anything you want to enjoy afterwards.

Bottle. Hazy golden amber, off white head.aroma of spruce forest and caramel. Sweet caramel flavour with a huge hit of spruce, medicinal and slightly soapy (Buckley’s). You’d think this would be repulsive, but it is actually quite nice in a strange and unique way. Like drinking a forest.

Garrison Coast to Coastless Collaboration
What a great idea for a great brew.. Pours a brownish red a great sized head. Aroma is of toffee, earth, spice, raisins, and biscuits. Tastes of caramel, toffee, biscuit, and old earthy hops all amped up to imperial, but remaining so balanced somehow. Has great warmth and is quite smooth drinking for what it is. Can’t wait for another collaboration from these guys.

Garrison Klingon Warnog Roggen
Pours a dark unfiltered reddish brown with a massive off white head. Aroma is of banana bread, bubblegum, and cloves. Tastes of big gum, cloves, banana, faint chocolate, and finishes with rye. Can’t say they all fit together well, because they don’t. Has A smooth medium body with a dry, tart finish. I was hoping more for the Roggen side of things, but it is just a mishmash of ingredients that don’t work well.

Garrison Hopyard Pale
341 ml bottle from Liquor Depot, served in a Stella Artois chalice. Pours a hazy orange-yellow with lots of very fine suspended particulate and a meringuey head of off-white that leaves sudsy lace webs. Aroma is noticeably floral, powdery, and perfumey, redolent with grapefruit, orange, and pineapple. Flavor has a noticeable and distracting astringency and bitterness to its heavy citrus zest upon light crackery malt. Thin-bodied, and the aftertaste bitterness stays much too long. Not my particular kind of pale ale. Interestingly, their beer’s name and profile are similar to Roscoe’s Hop House pale ale, another beer I panned heavily some months ago, as their appearances (looking a soupy orange and filled with miniscule rusty bits), aromas, flavors, and unwelcome astringency are very much alike. This one is better (more tolerable, that is) than Roscoe’s, but it will take some gritted teeth and palate scrubbers on the side to finish the rest of the six-pack. Is it the dry-hopping that turns me off...?

I am not sure how this beer won. It was almost undrinkable and a chore to get through. Pours a dark ruby red, with small off white head. Aroma was of chocolate, raisins, toffee, and dark fruits. Taste was of dark fruits and their pits with raisin and bitter burnt coffee. Extremely astringent and acrid taste and palate. Just unpleasant to get through.

Pale golden pour with a thin white head. The nose is softly malty and a little bit hoppy. Lightly spicy/herbal noble style hopping with a little bit of grassiness. Fairly sweet profile with a slightly estery fruity finish. The word "hop" really doesn’t belong in the name of this beer even though it’s a fine golden ale.

Great Lakes X Metalman X Garrison Not So Gentle Tickle IPA
Purchased at the Garrison brewery on my trip to Nova Scotia, late 2015. Pours a clear light-amber colour with a frothy warm cap, good stay and loads of foamy-dirty lacing. Aromas of citrus and caramel like most IPAs, but a wet socks smell comes out in there, from the grain used here. The taste does not have this. Grapefruit notes, a little oranges, grassy hops and light grain. Becomes a little hazy in the end. The wet socks do go away, and some hints of berries-oranges replace this, saving this one as a decent stronger IPA.

Garrison Ol’ Fog Burner
2015 Limited Release with 11.5% ABV. purchased at the brewery on my 2015 trip to Nova Scotia. Pours a hazy amber-orange colour with a beige head, good retention and creamy lacing. Rich caramel malt aromas with some dark fruits, hints of nuts and grassy hops. The hops really show in the taste with some nice bitterness, creating a dry finish. The fruity, sweet malts are hidden by this. Pretty good, if you prefer a hoppier Barley Wine.

Garrison Honey Lavender Ale
Purchased at the brewery on my trip to Nova Scotia. Pours a hazed, light-golden colour with a huge frothy white head, very long lasting with soapy lace. Spicy aromas with some pine, floral notes and decent soft yeast. The taste has a little more of the lavender, hints of wood, with good grain in the finish and again, some decent spices. Kind of pie-like. Some light sweetness from the honey lingering. An interesting floral sweet brew. Nice to try once.
